I found a dirt cheap ($800) i9 11900k build with RTX 3080 and 32GB RAM. The only problem - it overheats. I find out why.
Fixing an overheating PC requires patience. But that is no problem for Dr. Boris with hammer. The i9 processor in this Aorus Model S is a powerhouse on its own producing more heat than babushka's oven, but putting that next to a RTX 3080 in a small form factor box is just bad.
This video partially edited on that overheating junk but finalised on the final build, running at a cool 32C.

Oh man, Boris the tech tuber is something I didn’t know I wanted. More if you feel like it, please! ITX cases aren’t really made for high power CPUs like the 11900K, which is known to draw power like a cyka, at upwards to 250W, and that case just simply don’t have the required cooling system for it. Some ITX cases like the Hyte Revolt 3 can run a 280mm radiator AIO, and that would be able to cool the 11900K. Prebuilds are often just not really well designed for all specs. They’re too standardized… Oh, please note that with your current fan configuration, you will end up with a lot of dust in your case, because there’s no dust filters over the air intakes in the rear. Maybe get a magnetic air filter for it? You should consider maybe trying to make a soft tubing custom watercooling, and slap a waterblock on that 3080.

For anyone wondering, the case he ended up using is the Fractal Design Pop Air White TG Clear Tint from the looks of it. It is about 100 eur. The Lumen S36 watercooling system is about 110 eur. I would have gotten a microATX or even an ITX case like the NZXT H210 that can fit a standard ATX PSU, because of the ITX motherboard that came with the prebuilt, but then when I saw the massive GPU heatsink, I realized he definitely needed a standard ATX case. He could have still gotten a decent case for 70 euro, and he could have save another 40 euro if he instead bought a very large beefy dual tower heatsink that are known to perform nearly as well as a 360mm aio liquid CPU cooler, like Scythe, Thermalright, Deepcool🤗

@DJSekuHusky
@DJSekuHusky Год назад
@@kaikart123 This is accurate. I did notice something: the fans need to be rotated, or at least their connections on the board. That top fan should always be spinning, and the GPU can be passively cooled this way until it meets threshold to activate the secondary (smaller=nosier) fan. This unit could very well have been assembled by a new, poorly trained or inexperienced worker who didn't understand the fan setup, especially since many quarantines were ending around that time. If your test procedure is simply to observe both fans spin, it would kinda make sense. Furthermore, I don't know whether this slipped past QC on Gigabyte's end, or if the previous owner tried to do something to it and mistakenly swapped connectors and thought he broke something. Does anyone know of other Model S' sounding like this? Personally, I use a 19.5 liter case for my sffpc; it's running 36C on air cooling at idle currently. It also has a single 140mm case fan, set on a curve, and I've never heard it sound anything like that arse of an Aorus. That's got to be set up wrong. The question then becomes was it an isolated mistake, or a massive oversight? I just can't imagine a company loosing that abomination on gamers and being proud of it, assuming it's all deliberate and with those numbers. Sure, in the back of my mind I wonder if the Gigabyte product team got too hung up on "get everything fitted in 14 liters"; so much so, that they designed it and themselves into a corner with a thermogenic monolith for a final product. Still, for the sake of fairness, I hope Gigabyte issues a product notice of some sort to hopefully clear up what happened and whether more units are affected. Either way, I want to see them properly address the issue for the sake of their consumers.

@@DJSekuHusky I am confused as to why they didn't just took NZXT H1 as design inspiration, instead they do a single heatsink for both GPU and CPU, that has to expel 450W thermal energy combined. It's mind boggling to me.

Amen, my now using also a pre-build and about to burn down my house everytime I boot up metro Exodus, so I'm just brought a $15 "colling" fan, BECAUSE FOR SOME FUCKIN REASON THEY DON'T INCLUDE IT IN THE PC BUILD, and I limit to 50 fps max and now it's only top at 71-74 Celsius.

That cooler wich is supposed to cool both CPU and GPU is a pretty impresive piece of engineering but it's a fail in real life. That's why i love my 2013 self-built desktop PC, full tower case, perfect workhorse, runs like in day one.
@prfwrx2497
@prfwrx2497 Год назад
It may not have fail so bad if it was hooked up to the CPU fan header. SFF and i9/3080 combo is always a bad idea, but at least that's a less bad idea than whatever it came with.

hey boris, i'd recommend you make your radiator/aio fans as a intake and the rest of the fans in ur case as exhaust, you have a dust filter on your front panel that will filter out the dust and at the back panel which is currently intake there is no dust filters, just turning around the configuration of ur current fans will help with dust
@taco_poncho_man729
@taco_poncho_man729 Год назад
also pulling air in from the front will allow more air to pass through the system since the front of the case has more room for air to come through which would make it cooler in the case
@madkills10

Not to mention that heat rises, use physics to your advantage. Draw cold air in the front, it will heat up and rise out of the rear and back

I hugely appreciate this honest review of this system. All the reviews I could find say that this is a very silent compact pc. I wonder if your cooler was somehow compromised (broken heat pipe i.e), or if all other reviews come from shills.

its more that it wasnt built to handle the hardware in it, ive almost never seen those specced out with a 3080, even a full tower can struggle with those

@@nordoceltic7225 its really not shills, the pc is pretty good when its not using a fuckin 3080 and i9 that make a NORMAL pc overheat without watercooling... Most units that got sent out to reviewers were using i5's and 3060 ti's

@@marcusborderlands6177 I only recall of all the pcs of this type the Corsair One, and that was only made in the GTX 10 series AFAIK. An i7 7700K and GTX 1080Ti was the most you could grab, but even then both were having AIO cooler systems attached instead of sharing a huge heat sink like this one.
