This idea was sent to me and I absolutely loved it. I love how the metallic sheen feels PART of the material and not painted on. How the pair still feels casual and easy but the glitter affect makes them feels special and unique.
I will show you how to apply this affect in a way that keeps the fabric feeling soft and wearable.
I will also teach you how to set it so that you can wash them
WASHING - Whenever possible I would spot clean. This is a fabric paint which is completely permanent but I would always try to wash as infrequently as possible to extend the life of it.

Did it. Worked 100%. Love it. The only thing I did different is mixing paint with water in a bucket (lined with plastic bag and dipped the dry pants in it. Made sure it soaked through well, hung on the hanger and then worked all over with my hands to even up the paint. Whole process took less than an hr

I found the paint in my city and painted the pants today. Love them! I used one coat just to test the process. I bought 4 of the 2.25 oz jars of paint. I used 2 1/2 jars to achieve the look I wanted. Thanks for sharing.

How about just dunking the pants themselves, into a bucket (or whatever.. container) large enough that would contain the liquid with room to move around, and just manipulate with hands, squeezing, and moving around. That's what i would do.. i'm all about motion efficiency. Also...Since the Cargos that u used are sold out, can you tell us about them anyways? Would like to know the brand and the fabric content please. Thanx!
@TheDIYDesigner
@TheDIYDesigner 11 месяцев назад
Updated the description because I found them! bit.ly/3PozbWp Regarding dipping them, I kept thinking I should do that but I was worried I wouldn't have enough paint. In order top actually submerge the entire part and get the paint everywhere you would need an excess of paint and I did not have enough
@Juststudiothings
@Juststudiothings 11 месяцев назад
I also wonder if that would make them stiffer and less comfortable to wear because they will be coated on both sides. And will it end up looking crinkled? Because the pants will be scrunched while soaking up the paint. And of course the amount of paint needed would be quite wasteful, unless you plan to make MANY. I would probably dip a small tote or hand bag or hat or something similar.

Wow😮 nice Rocknot bag! And what?!? Different straps!?!? So cool. 🤩 *looks in my wallet* dang it... not enough money right now. I think it's cool that the iron will set the paint and not make it crusty. Never would have thought to do that. I'd probably let it air dry for a bit and put it in the dryer(low setting). BUT, I think pressing the paint to the fabric would be so much better and probably not take as long as the method I mentioned. I am kinda curious what I the paint would look like on top of a different color like green cargo pants. Would you still see the green color? Or is there a green iridescent paint? Idk. But I think it would be cool to still see the pant color through the watered-down paint in different color pants. 😊❤
@TheDIYDesigner
@TheDIYDesigner 11 месяцев назад
I think it would look awesome over another color. You could always do fewer coats so you see the under color more.

@mellinsomnia1

Both would soak in the paint and the glitter payoff would be bad. These types of paints need saturation and the only way to achieve it is to use something that won't take in the color/glitter, but deposit it into the fabric.

OMG. I literally - literally - just revisited a pair of silver metallic high-rise jeans on the Zara website, maybe 30 minutes before this video popped up in my feed. I tried the Zara jeans in-store twice, and looooved them, because they are perfect for stage. They are still haunting my dreams. But they are $70, and I sense that the finish probably won't hold up with the frequent laundering my stage clothes get. I was going to revisit your metallic foil tutorial (which, BTW, worked GREAT on denim jacket I did), but this is actually the finish I wanted! I have a couple of questions... what was the fabric content on your pants? I sense a higher cotton % or other natural fiber will work better than too much polyester or nylon - ? And do you have any kind of guesstimate of the final ratio of paint-to-water? Or could you take a stab at what the consistency was like? (for example, 'the oatmeal-water in the bottom of the bowl after you've finished eating' or 'the disappointing consistency of skim milk', etc.?) Yeah. I get hung up on the technical stuff. LOL. For the gals (and guys) who like gloves when doing DIYS, the best gloves I have found are the ones I find at locally-owned beauty supply stores. I'm currently using Sanek black nitrile examination gloves, which are powder-free and latex-free, size small, and they fit and feel like a second skin. I wear them for coloring my hair, or using RIT dyes on clothing.
