I realized after making this video that not doing any sort of sound comparison may have been a mistake. changing out my Kemper to this platform wasn't predominantly about improving my guitar tone, it was more about solving the logistic issues of using a toaster live with a separate remote, and the studio/live workflow. there are plenty of people on RU-vid that do much better scientific comparisons between different amps/software, and I'm just not on that level lol, sorry. I'm sure there's a difference in the quality of effects, but I didn't do any comparisons on those before selling the kemper. As far as the amp tones, I'm using the same amp captures from ToneJunkie as I was using on Kemper, so the tone is essentially identical but in more a non-destructive manner at my computer. i made a YT short a few videos ago that had some A/B sound tests lol

You don’t need to be other RU-vidrs, just be you man!

I’m using this setup as well and I love it! If you ever need more switching I strongly recommend Blackstar Live Logic or other midi controller. It makes it even more powerful.

As someone who owns both a Kemper Stage and ToneX, I don't blame you for ditching the toaster! I think for basic guitar needs in studio or live with excellent tone, the ToneX is a standout piece of gear. I just find the Kemper Stage way more convenient as far as loading and using my performances live, the additional effects like delay that is missing on ToneX, and I love my lead tones on Kemper lol. We use both live though with ToneX for rhythm and me using the Kemper for lead and it fills the room!

Kemper number 1! Tonex is sucks lol
@lowcodemagic
@lowcodemagic 9 месяцев назад
@@diecaverna it isn't that serious man lol. Both products have killer tones. I prefer the ease of use of my Kemper Stage personally (that and I run my rig via MIDI over USB and Ableton, which ToneX cannot do via USB), but if I needed something quick and easy, ToneX is solid. Just missing the effects and routing options.

if I had the kemper stage in the first place, I prob would be in the same boat too. it was really convenient to have everything in one unit. it's just kinda hard to beat the studio/live workflow with going direct for me. I dont think we live in times where you could really tell the difference WITHOUT an A/B comparison, and those don't exist when you go watch a live show lol
@lowcodemagic

@@BrandonWells oh for sure, and even then the A/B comparison is negligible on most of these modern units.

Love it! I've been doing a bunch of research and I recon this combo of pedals could be my solution too! Currently using my laptop and running Neural DSP but taking my laptop everywhere isn't my favourite thing in the world. Thanks for making the video!

the neural plugins are pretty amazing, but I do sympathize with having to bring a laptop & interface everywhere, especially when you have to DIY your own sort of kit for it to make it convenient

Have a Kemper and ToneX. I do wish the ToneX had XLR outs for front of house (Maybe a future change?). I don't blame you for switching at all. ToneX captures for sure sound excellent. I have the Kemper Stage and still happy with it but it's nice to have both. 👍 It's a very compact setup you have and at under $1k it's very hard to beat. Money saved easily buys you a road case and the pedal board.

Oh nice! Yeah to be honest, if I had the stage model instead of the toaster, there’s a possibility that I wouldn’t do this change for my live kit. Studio would be different I think, especially with neural being free

Great info. But it would have more impact if you gave a sound demo of some of your favorite effects from this setup.

wouldn't it be cool if there was a standard digital interconnection for all these things, like SPDIF so we could mix and match without so much AD/DA conversion? Anyways, this is definitely a powerhouse setup in a tiny pedal board, pretty cool!

Great thinking !!! You're running in 4-cable method right on your board. Totally applicable to GT-1000 Core too. THANKS.

To my ear, the combination of the two devices results in a loss of sound quality. I look forward to a new, more powerful pedalboard from IK Multimedia that combines Tonex and Amplitube technology.

eh, a tidy setup that's 'ready' for gigs in a flash is appealing. live there are tradeoffs worth accepting to get some types of work or perhaps any work at all, while in the studio _the soldering iron > softwares_ to this day and probably forever. the liveliness of specific tube amps aside; there's just nothing quite like plugging into a simple fuzz circuit, or better yet DIY'ing the thing to just how I want. _[p.s. take it from an old fart - there is no such thing as "finally" with guitar rigs...not until you are rid of ALL of them!]_

i don't doubt it for a lot of people. when I play live, we're all on in-ears anyway. I have enough hats to wear, so the more things I can control at any venue, the better for me

Great idea and very nice explanation. I prefer XLR outs like on my Mooer GE300 and other higher level multi-effects pedals

i really wish this had XLR out, I had to buy the 1/4 to XLR for live

Hey, nice video! I am planning to manage the same combination! I am really interested in how you set up two pedals while recording in DAW... As I understand you have a VST plugin of Tonex and Helix Native. How do you put Tonex in the FX loop in Helix Native in DAW?
@BrandonWells
@BrandonWells 10 месяцев назад
yo! in my daw, I just run tonex first in my plugin chain and then hx native afterwards. the reason it makes sense for me to run the fx loop live is because there are certain times I want to add compression or gain before the amp. but when im writing/recording, I'd rather just use a proper compressor or distortion before the tonex plugin. I have a lot more cool plugins for that stuff in the computer, so I just make due with what the HX has in the pedal for live
