I just know that Ginny agonized over whether or not to call the Fey Favorite card “Feyvorite” and ultimately decided not to go with the pun, but it was a tough decision
@@GinnyDi Relax. We will do it for you, and will proudly call it "Feyvorite" whenever using it. Aaanyway on a more serious note, do you have any clue how likely this is to ever be found outside of the US/Canada, say maybe in some remote, cold part of the world like, oh I dunno, scandinavia?
Silver lining, not naming it after the obvious pun gives the opportunity for others to have the joy in spotting and sharing the pun themselves! It's fun to let the DM pull out and read the Boon card and their players without skipping a beat go "Feyyyvorite" lmao.
Blacking out in a department store and waking up with a new blender, a wooden duck statue, and a deck of cards written by Ginny Di sounds like an excellent origin for a Warlock pact.
I appreciate the transparency at the end about pre-orders and how it benefits you but also that people shouldn't and should wait if they aren't sure. A lot of authors will just promote pre-ordering (understandably it does help them) but I appreciate you laying it out like that
Just started playing with my wife and kids and this seems like such a fun way to spice up the premade campaigns we're running with some random variety.
My wife rp'd a villian as being lonely and shunned by the world, so my nine-year-old decided to befriend him. Now we're scheming a redemption arc for this necromancer. It's been a blast lol.
Ominous, indeed. Like the equivalent of having a rather menacing card revealed in a tarot reading, and to be told "oh my, this does not bode well for you".
My dice don't like solo roleplaying, they get confused on who they are rolling against. Then they just sulk. Have you ever had to deal with sulking dice?
Good reasoning for carrying a sword. I personally like the reasoning that the sword is your emotional support sword too. Unfortunately the Belgian police doesn't consider it a valid reason to run around with a sharp sword in public (which you can only do with a valid reason). Granted, given that my sharp is a Grossmesser, the real reason is to quote Crocodile Dundee, before drawing a huge two-handed knife with crossguard
@@digitaljanus "das ist kein Messer, das ist ein Messer." Don't think it's very useful here though, we speak Dutch, not German. Do note, that I did the translation myself, so it might not be grammatically correct German
My pre-order came with a REALLY high service charge, so i cancelled and reordered at a different store. Not complaining, just want others to be aware it's worth checking all the locations
@@sarahkuntzman3014 since it might be different depending on where you are, I'd rather not blast them publicly, just want people to be aware there might be additional fees and charges that are higher with some businesses than others. They have a right to that and we have a right to shop around to avoid that.
Wow! This really reminds me of (I truly do apologize I simply do not have the self-control not to say it) Pathfinder 2e's Divine Intercessions! The 20 most important deities in the setting, as well as 20 more less important ones, each got this fun mechanic in the system's original divine guidebook Gods & Magic and its web supplement. It's a pretty fun mechanic, where each deity has a list of boons and curses, minor to moderate, that they might hand out to people that are extremely dedicated to their worship or to pissing them off respectively. There's no direct rules for when and why to hand them out but there's guidance on what the deity specifically _might_ deem deeds or offenses great enough to reward or punish directly. It's an especially great system for pious PCs that aren't a religious class (Cleric, Champion, etc.) The intent behind the system isn't 1:1 the same, but the execution is very similar. I'm glad someone made something like it for 5e because lord knows that system needed it, and I'm even more glad it was Ginny!
My deck arrived in the mail and this video doesn’t scratch the surface. Each card looks and feels amazing, the illustrations evoke old block print paintings and they are small enough to hold but big enough to see the illustration from far away. The book is also super high quality, the pages are more durable than the actual WOTC books and the text is super easy of the eye. I was expecting these to be heavy on the cameos and full of inside joke that’d I’d have to explain at the table but each card feels like its own story and a glimpse into a different party. My favorite card is “creature of the land and sea” the idea feels so familiar while still being unique, I could definitely see a player get this as a quest hook that leads them down a path of multiclassing into sorcerer or warlock. I love the way this deck scales and I can’t wait for this to be a staple of my table
@@GinnyDi interesting. Do you like it for the writing and the undertones about the moral quandaries around non-romantic sex? Or do you just enjoy the suspense?
I mean, I could rave about its effectiveness as an allegory for a number of different experiences, but I also think it is a masterfully executed example of a horror movie that never loses its momentum and follows its own rules the whole way through. I think it's a fantastically crafted film.
If you want to pre-order the deck, here are some links for US and Canada buyers! ginnydi.com/boonsandbanes (If you're outside of those areas, give your local bookstore or game store a call or search on their website - lots of folks are reporting that they've been able to pre-order from their local store!)
I use Amazon wishlists for organizational purposes and only order from them when I can't find something anywhere else, so I'll make sure to buy the cards at a physical store!
i placed my pre-order a few weeks ago when you did the first video that just told us that this pack existed. i was like "Oh Ginny's done a game supplement for D&D that is going to be available in shops! i must have it." even the fact that i live in the UK and soo had to pay international shipping didn't stop me.
Looks like a fun product! definitely worth checking out. side note: All DnD 5E games need to include Na'Krasha's Axe as THE ultimate legendary Item! ngl.
This sounds and looks like a fantastic tool for adding a little something extra to games! The setting I'm currently working on is going to start very low magic, and if the players choose to try to unlock the secrets of where the magic went, they can unlock more of it. The idea of getting random banes and boons as they get closer and closer to the truth makes me happy in a chaos gremlin way! Definitely gonna preorder once I get paid!
I bought this today at the Fort Collins signing, and it was immediately useful! We were playing Shadowdark at the Haunted Games Cafe and one of the characters had an oracle background and a tarot deck as an item. We didn't have a tarot deck for them to get a reading on a creepy tower, but we used this deck and they drew the Arcane Allergy card. So the GM ruled they lost the ability to cast that day, but later found a magic item cause they started sneezing when they got close to it! Absolutely awesome product, with such cool inspirations for any game! Congrats again Ginny!
I love these! Cant wait to pick them up when i run into them! I do a TON of homebrew stuff for campaigns and these will make EXCELLENT tools to add some extra fun stuff to them
The artwork is beautiful and the deck looks like a lot of fun, I'll probably pick it up later this year when it's out or might put it on the christmas list. It really seems like it would make a great D&D themed gift for a DM too without getting too expensive, especially if all the players toss in a few bucks for the DM's birthday or such.
I just got my deck in the mail - what a nice product! I'll definitely find some good uses for this, either rewarding or plaguing my players - possibly at random!
I just got it! This feels upscale quality. the box is the greatest little high-grade holder. Your art is Fantastic. LOL you really need worry about these cards in game. I love my copy. it fits my travel box of game. I enjoyed your one shot. I have the whole collection of game master's book-deck of... Already payed for the city's book in November then the green 2027. I have become a fan. Your stealth is 20. You are a good writer/DM. Never give up. you are doing great. Laterz
For all of us Dutch fans, you can preorder the deck at Bruna! I'm proud of you Ginny for being such an amazing writer/creator and getting this stuff on the shelves (even in the Netherlands). Already preordered and can't wait!
ngl i like when im baned in the context of the game, it feels like the outside forces have taken notice of my character / having a (temporary!) disadvantage makes me more engaged and cautious with the game
I'm equally surprised and delighted to see it's available in Germany! Will only get it two weeks later because they probably need to ship it over to Europe first, but I'm fine with that :)
Well it _is_ definitely available at the dark lords evil empire here (Amazon, if you dare saying its name), but also some local chains. Seems like overseas products start to gather sort of a following…
🎉I totally just went and pre-ordered this. Thank you so much! I love content like this and excited to use it in my game. And then I got even more excited to see that it was added on to the game Masters guide books.🎉 that is the first add-on series that I started buying from that wasn't actual Dungeons & Dragons official content and I love them so much.
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m so glad my content could be helpful as you dive into D&D! It’s such an amazing game, and there’s always something new to discover. Enjoy the adventure-you’re going to have a blast!
I think people will be much more thrilled with your creation (which looks interesting to me) if you had some examples in the video, like short clips with the situation on the table. Regardless - great job, awesome to see people doing something cool for the D&D community :)
Tim Foley's art totally sold these to me. Plus, this is totally the kind of thing I would home brew, so I love the idea. Pre-order placed. Thanks Ginny.
Mine was just delivered today and I’m super stoked. The cards are nice and the packaging is awesome. I can wait to use it next game. The kids are going to encounter a Medusa so I’m thinking I already know which card I’m using just gotta figure out which one is going to earn that particular Bane. Good job on the deck I’m super stoked for you and for all that purchased this little bit of awesomeness :).
I love these kinds of tools. I think this is a magnificent idea and I will be looking into picking it up. I am a long time (too long.. I'm getting old.. uhg) "forever" DM, so tools like this are always great to have. Thanks for all your work! Big fan of your content!
Oooo I love this - it looks like a tarot deck I would love to have a Seer whose arcane focus is a tarot deck & before each quest they can either pull a card for the whole party to see how the mission will go or pull a card for one certain party member (most likely at the behest of the GM) to tell them something specific This comes out on my mom's birthday 🎉🎂
Looking forward to the release date. Don’t forget to remind us on Sept 30th to remind us about Oct 1. If anything it will provide some good ideas for quests, curses by hags, blessing by the gods, or another version, if not a better one, of the deck of many things. Maybe at session zero all players start out with a boon and bane (of course adjust for lower levels) that they draw randomly. Everyone rolls a d20 to see who goes first. Ties roll again. Then each set is mixed up and drawn from. Then reshuffle & repeat. No body reveals their cards. They will get with the DM to notate what each player drew. That allows the DM to create adventures that relate to them. The players then role play the revelation of their boon and or bane as time goes on whether revealed in a social interaction or in combat. At higher levels, they each have a dream where the boon AND bane is revealed to them. They still draw the cards at the beginning of the session. Then the DM works it in when they take a long or short rest individually off to the side. They then get to reveal them as they prefer during role play moments. The DM then works in the results into the campaign. Just a thought.
I've had this book on a wish list for a while now and I can't wait to add it to my "Game Master's" collection (I already have the rest in the series.) :D
I have two kids. I can confirm babies are chaotic evil, with fingernails that can slice diamond. These sound SO cool! Perfect foe my wild magic pirate campaign!!!
I love the idea these cards. As an avid 2e AD&D player (I got into it in 2016, I’m not like a veteran player or anything) these cards feel familiar to some of the 2e tools.
This would fit perfectly with a home brew I’m doing with the vecna module. Each time they meet him the fabric of the universe changes randomly and the players can change any aspect about their characters from class to gender to background.. anything… instead of doing that, sometimes I could also do this Boon/Bain feature 😊
Wow this is awesome Ginny and congrats on getting it onto store shelves. Thats big! Gonna see if pre-ordering is an option for me cus it's a beautiful deck that looks like a lot of fun and the high stakes are something that would be loved amongst my friend group. ❤
you are truely amazing this looks absolutly great! already preordered mine. I was like damn look at that quality and all the work put into it its gonna be expensive... but somehow you even made it affordable i cant wait for october
