No I have not! Just found your page so I will probably watch all your videos by tomorrow Haha! Im about to move into a much smaller shop then I've been using so I'm looking for ways to optimize space and that shooting board is the answer!
Nice job. Couple suggestions for others to consider. Use an exacto blade instead of a pin to make a cutting gauge which for xgrain scoring. You can tap threads directly into the wood. Keep up the good work!
Nice marking gauge, but I like the combination J-hook shooting board with flip-over miter on back. When possible (all things possible, I know), I'll make multi-functional tools and jigs. Thumbs up, Andrew!
I watched the video where you made your own handle for a saw. It turned out to be an incredible work of art! I actually have a saw that is even smaller-with NO handle-but is the same style of blade. I was already planning on replacing the missing handle, but now I REALLY want to after seeing how yours turned out. Great job! You have a new sub!
Very slick, I might have used a single piece of wood for the block and then cut a mortice but otherwise fantastic and I love the slot on your bench for the shooting board.
Hey! I have done the mortise style before and this is almost fool proof to get a good tight fit and allows you to use a threaded insert placed from inside so it doesn’t pull out. But definitely love the mortise style.
I like the look of the marking guage. But, by embedding the pin or "blade" into the beam, you won't be able to resharpen it. Wire nails get dented very easily with out much force. I would by some high carbon steel or tool steel and make a blade from that. You can use old circular & tablesaw blades or the blade of an old rusted handsaw blade.
Great suggestions! For sharpening, I use a small file to put a new point in it. If it gets too small, I use pliers to expose more of the nail. If that ever gets too small, I can use a new nail.
jaja me gusto mucho muy original y sin tanta tecnológica quiere decir que es muy fácil hacerlo tambien me gusto la tabla de doble funcion vere si la copio tambien es muy util gracias amigo saludos desde venezuela
What if I told you that the slot in a threaded insert is not for a screw driver, but is a thread cutter? :) If you put couple of nuts in a bolt, you can use that and a wrench to drive the insert in much easier when the cutter end goes in first.
I have a couple No.5s. :D I also have a No.605c but it's in horrible condition. :( You can find out what type it is on this website. > woodandshop.com/identify-stanley-hand-plane-age-type-study/ I've used it a lot! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I have moved away from the rapid-speed with music style of video! I do include some more talking but I try to be less about just showing something and more about showing something meaningful! I hope that small change helps.
Bem, Andrew, você é um artista! Posso fazer só duas sugestões? May I?
Thanks! I love this gauge and gave it away for the Wood by Wright hand tool build off 2017. The bench hook shooting board combo-I still use it alllll the time! It’s perfect!
Oi tudo bem? gostaria de saber o passo a passo do porta tempero de gaveta que vc fez para Joice amo o canal dele e agora curtindo o seu estou querendo me aventurar nas construções mais é claro que vou começar com coisas pequenas obrigada
I don't know what I'm missing here...if the top and bottom are 3" long and the 2 pieces in the middle are 1 1/2" long - there is not a 3/4" x 3/4" hole in the middle. Either I'm looking at it wrong, or your dimensions are wrong. I mean geez, this is a simple build...but somethings not right - and I'm not saying it's not me ;)
I understand how it's laid out, but with 3" top and bottom the inside 1 1/2" pieces don't leave a 3/4" hole - so either the long top and bottom need to be 3 - 3/4" (which is what I've ended up doing) or the inside smaller pieces need to be shortened each by 3/8" so they leave a space of 3/4". It's no biggie, it's a simple tool, it works fine, still a nice video and effort to make the pdf and explain it all. Actually I wanted one of these and was going to make one just like yours, saw your video and that verified the technique - I didn't want to chisel out a square hole!
Any reason to post this video in 2x speed? RU-vid does not impose length restrictions anymore. Something wrong with real-time speed including sound? Unwatchable.
@@neonjoe529 I know that. What I hate is to see that a really nice project documentary is ruined by creating a stupid video. I know I don't have to watch it. But with less effort the author could have uploaded a better video. What I also see is that I commented twice on the same video... comments posted one year apart. At least I dit not change my mind :)
@@neonjoe529 No. Usually I make a compliment telling that something is a good video or documentary, showing details, no background music, no double or triple speed. Like this one, on the same day as I made the comment here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--yDjwjjuoo4.html
