Just brought my 2013 Cruze back from AZ to TN with a 5x8 fully loaded uhaul trailer hitched to it! It's from Florida and never left the state until 2020, and has been all over the country since then and is just getting 71200 miles on it with me doing all of the maintenance! So Don't underestimate the power of a Chevy! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Someone posted on the GM Facebook page a few days ago that their new Sierra caught fire and was totaled, GM would not help. My grandfather bought a new Lacrosse several years back; caught fire and had to produce maintenance records and hire a lawyer to get the car replaced. Father-in-law's Sierra with 40k miles had the transmission fail on a cross-country family vacation. Personally had a brand new Blazer leave me stranded after the window wipers shut off on the highway during a storm. Had a new Trailblazer that had headlights that would randomly turn off at night, the radio would get so hot you couldn't touch it, and would randomly lock and unlock by itself. GM and Ford have sold more cars in the US in the last two decades than any other manufacturer, I would hope they would have at least a few make it this far. It was recently reported Toyota has passed GM as the top seller in the US. Also, Toyota and Honda are now two of the three top American-made car companies in the US - being they use more American-made raw materials and parts than other manufacturers. Take a guess where GM and Ford rank. All those shiny $60,000 GM vehicles are filled with parts made in faraway lands! Will never purchase anything other than a Toyota/Lexus or a Honda/Acura. They might be boring, but they won't leave you stranded hours from home or leave you stuck on the side of the highway during a thunderstorm.

my old car was a 04 monte carlo with a 3.8 i ran it to the ground been totaled 2 times one was me which was just body damage nothing to care about and the other my brother now that hurt the car the whole front had to be replaced condenser and radiator included. now the had about 160k during its crashes after fixed it ran till about 300k so in conclusion if you take care of whats important engine and trans the car should last lol. when it seized both2 and 5 cylinders it was still running that car is the best ive ever had so far. 10 years and it had 42k on it when i got it

My young nephew bought a new Impala in 2006. He loved that car and drove it all around the country from coast to coast and sold it when it hit 400,000 miles with little trouble. He bought another Chevy.

Whoever the mechanic was that worked on that impala engine replacing the head gasket is one of the greatest mechanics ever! Doubtful anyone else’s work would last 350k miles!

GM had updated gaskets on cars because as the gaskets were maybe a different supplier? Went through on a few models.

One of the best engines GM ever made was the 3800 series 3.8 engine. Easy to maintain and work on. Very reliable and they definitely made a mistake discontinuing them.

Except for changing the rear valve cover gasket and spark plugs. It's a pain in the you know what to get to anything on that side because of the firewall. I hate having to put it in Nuetral and undo the top motor mounts and turn the engine enough to get clearance to work on that side of it. Other than that, like you said they were great engines. I had a 11 Impala with the 3.5 that was still going strong at 297,000 when the transmission gave up for the second time. And I still have an 06 Monte with the 3.9L and an 04 Monte SS Dale Jr with the 3.8L Supercharged and the engines are definitely the strong point of them. And just as Scotty said here it's the Transmission that is trash in these cars. The only one I haven't had to have rebuilt is the SS.

@@bradleychilds4387 My uncle recently came up on a 2005 Buick Lesabre and it was owned by an old man who passed away. The car is in tip top shape and my uncle is a mechanic so it works out great for him. When he has time he is going to replace the plastic coolant elbows with metal ones and the head gasket to prevent issues in the future.

@@johncampolo2177 He’s got a lot of good advise. Toyota pickup trucks are better than Chevy’s in many ways. I just don’t like the way the look or I’d be driving one to. 07-13 1500’s are decent trucks if they have the 5.3.

Those Impalas are weirdly super durable. The trim always falls apart, and things like your windows and electric locks will stop working, but everything else, the things that make it run, drive, and be useful to you, just seem to last forever on an impala.

A lot of the mechanics around here use them for loaner cars, probably for that reason. I have one myself that I got a really good deal on 5 years ago. Got it with 80k miles. Have 170k on it now and have had no issues of significance. Just make sure to change the oil diligently.

I own a '10 Impala bought it in 2019 with 138k miles, currently 180k never had a major repair only a wheel hub assembly because of ABS light. Best $4k I've ever spent, south Texas car so no rust no flaking paint!

We all are a dying art. To many abuse junk them (vehicles) out and then blame manufactures for not making it, as tough as they are hard on stuff. Run millions of miles never checking nothing, ask them what happen, I kid y'all not their response was "I DON'T KNOW, BUT I PUT FUEL IN IT"

I've had Chevy's all my life. I've never been left on the side of the road. My 08 Malibu had 170K on it and it still ran strong. I now have a 17 Impala with 70K on it ( admittedly not that many miles) but it's never had a thing go wrong with it. I can't be the only one who has had luck with them.

As one person said, you're obviously good with maintenance! I had a 1993 Buick Regal with the 3800, it was one of the best cars I've ever owned. It died in a car accident around 190k, it was running great before hand with the original engine and transmission ☺️ Some cars are faulty straight from the factory, I will admit that immediately. I had a Ford Fusion with leaky head gaskets from the first mile, I always babied it. I ended up drop kicking it to the curb for a Lexus!

My moms 04 Silverado has 578k on it. Original engine Trany everything. Had to replace two windows and brakes a few times. Everything else is stellar

Have a 2011 Impala LT 3.5 with 230k, has been a very very reliable car, only changed a few minor odds and ends along the way. Removed the ridiculous center rear headrest. Excellent on gas. Oil changes every 4k and has had good maintenance. One of the best cars I’ve owned.

My 1995 Chevy C1500 with the 305 V-8 had a little over 400k when I sold it for 3500 bucks. I changed the oil EVERY 3500 miles......RELIGIOUSLY with Castrol 20/50. It did not smoke or leak oil. One water pump, one alternator, five transmissions later, it was a remarkable clean, white extra half cab, lowered with wide tires, and lowered two inches. It still looked superb. The key to high mileage is to change the engine oil frequently on time.

This gives me hope for my Impala. Same thing but 08 instead of 07. Bought it from original owner in June with 129,000 miles for $4200. Most of the miles owner put on it were highway miles. Religious oil changes and maintenance with the service records/receipts to prove it. Thing drives like a dream, and I'm in love. Let's hope this baby rolls for the same mileage or more!

Just stay on the maintenance and drive it the same way he did. If it was an old man, drive it like an old man. You start beating on a car that grandpa drove it's entire life and things start breaking, often lol. I know from experience unfortunately. That being said we were young and stupid but damn it was alot of fun when it was working lol.

The only other PITA issue I have is the vent purge solenoid goes bad alot because of the location of it. Under the driver's side rear wheel well. It takes like 10 minutes to change it out. The garage charged me 800 one time to diagnose. Awesome cars.

I had a 2011 Impala just go out at 340,000 miles. Did a mix of city and highway. The transmission finally blew but that engine stayed strong and still runs great, so long as you keep up on oil changes

Have 201,000 Miles on my 2011 Model, 3.5L V6 Engine. This car has never given me a headache. Easy to work on and a good looking sedan in my opinion.

This generation Impala was often used in rental, taxi and law enforcement fleets. They can’t have been all that bad. I often rented them for business trips. And always liked them for the room, fuel economy and comfort. Anything GM has made since is crap.

Drove three of these company cars for work. Probably 400k across all three. Very few problems. Lots of Hwy miles though. Think Scotty nails it on the lack of wear for hwy miles. They were good cars.

Great video. I've owned four of these cars (two 06's, a 2008, and a 2012). I put a grand total of around 300k on them, and never had any significant trouble with the earlier models (each had the 3.5 engine). Aside from a few minor oil seapage issues and a new water pump on one they were trouble free, solid cars. The 3.6, sadly enough, was full of problems and I finally sold it. I'd recommend sticking with the 3.5 engine. It was quieter and had much better low end torque than the high revving 3.6...and they all got about 30mpg on the highway

My everyday driver - a 2008 Impala LS just turned 140k miles and runs like a clock. Yes - I am meticulous in the manner she is taken care of and she is clean as a whistle inside and out. What can you say - I am tempted to buy something else but the unheralded 3.5 liter V6 gets over 30 mpg on the highway and the car looks almost brand new. Why change????? This car allows me to have three "toy" older pickups and two "older/classic again" two-door coupes to play with when I am not working! To me - this is how you really enjoy cars! Take good care of them and NO MONTHLY PAYMENTS!

I have a friend that owns a 2000 Chevy Suburban that has the original motor with over 450,000 miles on it. Same transmission as well. Amazing. Kept up with every scheduled maintenance requirement and that’s why it’s still going great.

@@fortlauderdale3698 Starting in 2009 Chevy started putting the diesel particulate filters in them for emmisions. The diesels before that are great. My buddy says the injectors wear out about every 150,000 miles(cranks awhile before starting). The allison automatic transmissions in the duramax's seem to last forever. the automatic transmission in the gas chevy pickups go out at about 280,000 miles.

I have an 06 Grand Prix GT. It's a nice ride, had it for 11 years. Other than a few poor design choices like how you can't lift the windshield wipers up very far at all. Makes clearing snow off more difficult than it should be. You can tell it was designed for southern climates. Small nitpicking things like that. The motor and transmission are still original and still work great, but my cooling system is starting to gum up from the awful DEXCOOL coolant GM uses. Mechanic won't even flush it because it's acidic and it fucked the gaskets so if I flush it, it will probably leak coolant like a MFer. Just driving it until it dies at this point. Not even changing the squeaking drive belt. lol

My 2012 Impala 3.6 VVT direct injected, 6 speed automatic has 202,500 miles and is still going strong. It spent the first 20,000 as a hertz rental and I think a few of its drivers bought the extra insurance if you know what I mean. All I have done to the car is oil, oil filter change every 5,000 miles. Transmission fluid change every 25,000 miles. One purge solenoid, air filters, cabin filters, brakes, tires and 3 HVAC actuators. That's it. Can't complain about that plus 300 hp. This car has been run pretty hard all its life.

Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 Chevy Impala I bought for my wife new in 2006. It has 365,000 miles on it. We did have to replace a water pump on it and serpentine belt once, But knock on wood I have never change the spark plugs or wires on it. We still drive it today. Has a couple small oil leaks ,but nothing bad. We change oil every 3,00 to 4,000 miles though. Best car I ever had.

My dad had an 07 3500 Impala, lasted him 278k miles before he finally sold it. When he sold it the transmission was leaking a ton of fluid but was still smooth. Engine was fine. Suspension needed overhaul. Exhaust was rusted out. I have an 08 3900, only has 136k miles but so far so good.

I have the identical 08 car with 128k miles and boy, it needs some replacements every few months. Got new oil pump and oil pressure sensor and the computer still screams at me every once a while to stop the vehicle because of low oil pressure. I just leave it as is for 2 years already and the engine still seems fine.

I have a 2008 V6 LT and I just hit 170k. Oil leaks started at about 70k miles but she is still rolling. I did some research and small oil leaks are common with this car. Some oil leaks were repaired and others I used stop leaks oil treatments to condition the seals. Had the radiator replaced a year ago and a good professional carbon cleaning to keep the acceleration up because the gas treatments didn't work for me. I mostly have city miles on my car but since I moved 30 miles from work I am piling on the highway miles now. Looking forward to at least a few more years of good service.

My cousin had a Malibu same year same engine and had 379,549 miles only thing that killed the car was when the somebody vandalized the car and they removed the screw plug from the oil pan and drained the oil out and left the car like that till my cousin used the car a couple of miles until the engine seized.

As someone who rebuilt 4L60e’s and 6T65e’s all day. It does warm my heart to see some of the few gems. The transmissions won’t run forever, but if they’re assembled right from the factory they often will last a VERY long time… Too bad they’re usually rushed in assembly

I really enjoyed working on the Allison or Allison branded Chevy’s since they often have overbuilt internals. Usually failures come from inevitable defects or neglect in maintenance/overworking the transmission.

@@alexlaidlaw220 Short answer: if it’s a 6 speed then it would probably be made after 2012. That would most likely be a 6L60E. The way to break down that transmission format is this Long answer: First number is the number of gears, the first letter is L or T, longitudinal or Transversely mounted. Longitudinal is basically RWD, FWD is transverse. The last two numbers ranges from 30 to 75 for its “ability to handle more power”. This would mean things like the quantity of the planetary gears in a ring itself, The amount of clutches and clutch plates in the gears, etc etc. That Number officially ends at 75 bdcaUe the 80 in 4L80Es are a different platform for the transmissions entirely. E means “electronic”, the valves are electronically controlled and aided rather than being purely mechanical and working off of the pressure of the fluid flowing or other methods. The 4L60E started production in 1986 I believe. Example: So a 2014 Chevy impala would most likely use a 6T65E. 6 gears, a transversely mounted, 65 because the way the intervals are configured it allows for it to handle more power, E for electronic.

As someone who just got their first car, A 07 Chevy Impala LTZ with 175k Miles, I'm very happy to see another impala that is running smoothly. Hell even my car runs smoothly and the car was only around $3000 not bad in today's cesspool of a car market. At first I thought transmission was kinda going since when I floored it the thing jerked, but turning off traction control and then doing it again. The thing went fine. GM ain't perfect but hey better than Chrysler clearly is enough to make it a decent car.

Here is the key for us and old chevys, we know who abused it because we always owned it. They easily go 250K miles if you take care of them in upstate NY. They tend to have a lot of underbody rust from upstate NY. However, I don't know about new ones. The current suggestion is that they are not built the same as the older cars.

Meh even in the rust belt areas, like Toronto where I am, cars can still last a long time if you rustproof them since new and keep em washed off as often as possible throughout the winter. I have had cars that were over 20 years old and still pretty solid and look good. I've also seen cars that are 10 years old rusted like mad because no one ever rustproof or keeps em clean. Mazdas seem really bad for premature rusting. Many cars will last and look good while doing so but all depends on how they were cared for.

That is uncommon but possible. I've seen an oldmobile with a 3800 motor used as an escort vehicle for heavy loads that had over 400K. And she had only replaced 2 water pumps and a couple of fuel injectors. It was still running pretty good too.

i'm very happy to hear this Scotty. I have a Aussie Holden Commodore SV6 with the GM LFX 3.5L High Feature engine. I have done 220.000Kms and have just done cam timing chains and rockers and lifters. I'm hoping to do this again at 440.000kms with out no issues! fingers crossed.................

Until the tranny blew and then he got rid of it for a truck becuase he swapped jobs where a truck could earn him more money. But it was a twin turbo v6 f150.

I'm cracking up now just remembering it lol Eventually both a headgasket and the transmission went, and that was the end of the car. God we had so much fun with that ol hooptie 😂

I had 2 of these a 2007 and a 2009. No problems with either one. I think the 3500 V6 is as good as the 3.8 Buick v6. They are a simple design. GM made them for so many years, most of the "bugs" were worked out of them. The heater/AC door motor behind the glove box went bad on both of them. I sold the last one and bought a 2014 Toyota Camry V6.

Scotty - Love to watch your videos. Wife & I own 2011 Chevy Impala LT -125,000 miles so far. Owned it since new and love it. You warned us about their weak transmissions so no jack rabbit away from the lights. This summer Cruise to Florida from north Ohio to visit one daughter and family and then another cruise to Connecticut to visit another daughter. Impala is a beautiful cruising car. As a kid I saw the 61 Impala belonging to my friend’s mother. She called it her “Baby Cadillac”. That’s the year Impalla became “my car”. Thanks Scotty for all you do!

My mother had an 05 Dodge Stratus she bought new that had 560,000 miles on it before it was rear ended and totaled a couple years ago. Biggest issue she ever had was the water pump and headgasket at about 130k. Otherwise, normal maintenance. She DID however change the automatic transmission fluid every 30k-50k miles.

I'm a taxi driver and have driven lots and lots of these Impalas and the previous generation, and Malibus, it would be a miracle to get them to 250,000 KMs (not miles). The last GM cars I drove that were pretty decent were the Luminas with the 3.8L . These days the taxi fleet is mostly Toyota and Honda, but still has more Hyundais and Kias than GM vehicles.

I had a 2006 Buick Terraza mini van that I bought new that had the same engine as that Impala, a 3:5L V6. When I sold it 319,000 miles later, it still ran pretty good. Original engine. Had the trans replaced while it was still under warranty, it slipped a little between first and second. But no biggie. It lost about a quart of oil every oil change, approximately 5000-5500 miles. Went through quite a few wheel bearings. So I'd say that engine was designed and built correctly.

From what I have seen out of the 2010 Chevy Impala 3500 V6, they are strong motors. First time I rode in one, I thought it was turbo or supercharged, nope just plain Jane v6. I would say they are up there with the series 2 not series 1 3800 v6. Show it luv and it will show it back! Over 400,000 proves that.

We own two Impalas. 2013 has 122,000 miles. Runs good shifts smooth. 2007 Impala. Has 121,000 miles. It runs like new but underneath it, the rear suspension is rust city. I hope to get another years use out of it,

The sad part is that in Canada with winters, salt and calcium has rusted my frame. Im currently shopping for a new car but i loved mine for the 16 years I have it

As a tip, spend the $125 a year and get the next vehicle undercoated every year. Also wash it as often as you can throughout the winter to get the salt off it. I've had cars 20 years old living in Toronto as well and they still look good as long as they've been undercoated.

Likewise, Yves! Over 16 yrs ago I bought a new grey 2006 Impala LT 3.5L V6 in Central Ontario. Currently has 246,000km (~153,000 miles). Transmission & engine still runs great. Smooth, quiet ride. Consistent oil & transmission fluid leaks are a nuisance but manageable. New brake pads & rotors 4 years ago. Exhaust & muffler are Mopar aftermarket parts under warrantee that need replacing every 4-5 years. New battery last summer. To keep cruise control functioning properly, I removed fuses to disable ABS & Traction Control. E-Brake cable rusted out & haven't replaced. Heat & A/C works great, but the Blend Door Actuator in the glove box clicks for 30 seconds when switching between Outside Air Intake & Recirculation. Significant rust damage in the frame & body will likely prohibit extended mileage. It's been a safe, reliable & relatively inexpensive car to maintain.

I had a 2003 Honda Accord with almost 500,000 miles on her before she was totalled in an accident (someone rear ended her). But she ran like a champ. Leaked a little oil here and there, but nothing to panic over. And like this car in the video, I never changed my transmission fluid either. Still shifted fine. The interior and exterior was in great shape for the age and mileage.

By time I realized it should have been done, she had 250,000 miles on her. Transmission shop said DO NOT flush/exchange the fluid now. Never replace it for it will cause damage to the transmission. Never slipped - never had any issues with the car. It was a very good car to me.

I know a traveling nurse that had this same car with the same kind of mileage. I saw her a year later and asked about it and sadly she told me she wrecked it.

My 2012 Impala with the 3.6 motor was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, 190K miles with nothing done but oil changes, tires, and brakes. My brother has it now and it’s still running very good and smooth with no issues. I don’t understand how these cars can possibly have a bad name. every person I’ve talked to that’s owned one has loved it

I heard I mixed things about the 3.6 v6 gm engines. I'm looking for a new car for my self. I'm looking at this generation Impala. I know gm also had ignition switch issues on this generation too.

@Andrew I always did about 4,000 miles, they say you can go 6,000 or something like that but I don’t trust it. Every car I’ve owned I’ve done oil changes every 4K miles with full synthetic

I used to rebuilt many of the Chevy designed transmissions like the 4l60Es and the 6T65Es, often city fleet trucks. Many of the late aught and early 10s had trannies failed often, but more often was due to poor quality assembly rather than poor quality parts. When they’re made with pride and care they last forever. When they’re made by someone making $4 a day, they won’t last very long :/

@@smol_yote interesting. We have never had one problem with a Chevy transmission. I will say the 4L60E had some issues, but we have two Blazers both with over 200,000+ miles and a 4L60E trans no issues still going strong. The only issues I had heard of with guy's and the 4L60E where when they towed. If you added a trans cooler to them for towing it remedied the issue though. I am also a mechanic myself and own my own business doing it.

@@IbanezGuitarz87 yep GM trans are usually pretty good if you don't drive em too hard. My friend has an 05 Malibu 4 cylinder and it shifts great still at 240k km

The last Chevy I owned was a Blazer that threw a rod during a family vacation trip. It threw the rod at 33k miles. Thank God the vehicle was under warranty until 36k miles. Chevrolet had to put a new engine in it at their cost. Upon getting it back I immediately sold it!!!!!!!

I have this 3.5 LX9 in my grand am (I swapped it in), it’s a nice peppy engine! My torque converters going out tho lol, I’m gonna put an f23 5 speed in when I do the 3800 swap next month

Be careful, those F23 trans aren't super strong. If I remember right the are rated at less than 180lb/ft of input torque. The 3800 is rated at 230lb/ft or 380lb/ft for the 3800 series III supercharged. Isn't that F23 Getrag the tranny from the Sunfire/Cavalier (or the 4 cyl Grand ams?)

The 3.5 is likely what burnt up your torque converter too. More power than it can handle.

@@derekgardin1512 Supposedly the Getrag F23 can handle up to 700 crank. But I read 300 somewhere too, I’m going L67 Series 2 n I won’t be doing much, prolly a ported upper n lower intake & smaller sc pulley but that’s it. I won’t be driving it much after this year either as it’s going on 23 years old this Feb 😂 and yeah I know these lil 4T45e’s are JUNK🤮

I had an Impala with 288,000 miles on it. All I did was replace wheel bearings and Transmission Differentials. I had to duct tape the vents because both vents blew out different temperatures. It lasted a long time but it had a lot of issues.

This is the rarest GM product I have seen in my entire life: A chevy impala with 400,000 miles. I thought their major components fail every 160,000 miles because I heard they only last 160,000 miles.

Well a lesson learned for you then. Do not believe everything you hear. Myth Asian cars are better than American cars not true especially in the last 20 years. In the late 70s and early eighties i would agree with that statement. American auto makers then had a monopoly on the market and got complacent. Bringing in Asian cars that were built better and cheaper with better gas mileage was a win win for the consumer and forced American auto makers to go back to making a superior product like they did in the 50s and early 60s. I have owned 20 cars in my life so far all American. I have always been loyal to my country that is how i was raised my family served in the millitary and yes i am old school and proud of it. They all ran over 150,00 thousand miles on them with no major issues 3 lincolns with 300,000 miles and the last one has 470 thousand miles.Nothing like floating down the highway in a big comfortable land yacht with the long hood with the Lincoln star guiding you as you sink into the super comfortable Barcalounges.
