Because we know that videos are safe (relatively speaking, it is youtube we are talking about, after all), it is important for future viewers. This is a culture hero's job, which isn't always paid enough, if at all.
Yes, and of course I am happy if people appreciate what I'm doing, but as I said in the video, these compliments and cultural values dont really pay my bills :/
Same thing happened to my twitter. Suddenly engagement stopped. The analytics were very clear. My content and subscribers and regularity did not change. Something else did. Most likely I ran afoul of some kind of flagging process ran by humans who did not share my worldview. It happened too suddenly to be a change in the tastes or interests of my "audience"
I did listen all the way through. I’m in a similar economic situation and can definitely understand your viewpoint. I’ve never earned a single pfennig on youtube, I guess you just have to decide if the hobby is worth it - because I see it as a hobby as well, just posting things that I like and think should be available. If it starts to feel like a chore and a job then of course it can be good to at least cut back on the output.
The algorithm floods my screen with so many videos I'm not even interested in that it's hard to find something I want to watch. Even channels I am subscribed to get pushed out of sight by all the rubbish You Tube inflicts me with. Any channels that clickbait me with false titles I basically block, so good you don't do that. As for 'greed', well RU-vid is all about making money, so if it's not profitable for you then yes, maybe you should rethink. It's annoying when channels like Mark Felton's produce so many bland videos that get over a million views, but that's just the way it is.
@@peterrevens8454 Since a period in the beginning of July where I suddenly couldn’t play certain YT channels I can no longer block a channel from being suggested, which infuriating AF!
im patroning for now 😋Love the videos and little time descriptions.Doing long hours in summer so dont have time to watch same amount of youtube as in other seasons.
I Hope you continue, this is such an unusual channel & often fascinating on how those historical times were to actually live in. Direct history - 'nice' or not - is always valuable & ought not to be lost to the public! Perhaps the Summer season has some influence, more distractions..😃
Thank you so much for uploading the videos. It's rare to find such quality elsewhere. I have no idea where you get the material from, but I've watched nearly every episode and I'm thrilled. Stay healthy, and thanks again!
My friend, the solution to your problem is quite simple : if you are in a critical financial situation, you have to focus on your life first. It's ok if you take a break from your RU-vid channel, no one will blame you for that. I don't think you should hope for more subscriptions on your Patreon thanks to your speech, because people also have to pay bills or are already donating for other matters. Alas, nobody is that rich. The best thing to do is focusing on your financial situation, and gaining stability. You can always go back to your RU-vid channel and we will be very happy to see you again. Best of luck.
Thanks for the wishes. That is what I would ultimate do, but luckily there are a few people who have a few dollars to spare and who enjoy the channel enough to subscribe to me on Patreon, but of course, no one has to!
Hello from Texas I am one of your subscribers but retired at the moment so difficult to become a patron and I support you in other ways. Thank you again for your good work
This is my first time to comment here, but you do a tremendous effort on this channel for those whounderstand. Thank you for making this treasure available for us. Greetings from Egypt
Try not stop mate, your channel is very good and informative. Keep going mate. I'll try to become a patreon for you but I've just lost my job. I am subscribed.
Hello Sir, I really enjoy your content and I am quite sure that this is a temporary lull in views. Looking at your graph it appears views declined last summer, but then shot back up again. Nevertheless, You have my full support and I have spread the word to my friends about this channel and will do the same about your patreon. Please keep up the great work! Viel Glück!
Yes, but that was before I had a regular upload schedule and only uploaded speeches, which generally don't attract that many people. But of course you are right, it could go back up- I just dont think it will.
This must be very hard for you....for some reason yt is being a horrible company to history channels or videos regarding the ''dark'' side of history. I know channels have their ups and downs, but the algorythm is doing you and many other's channels dirty,i wish you luck in the future,no matter what,i still support you and enjoy your content to the fullest
When you frame your channel as being roughly €20000 worth of translations. It makes me realise how much this channel is worth. Some of the footage I’d seen before but couldn’t understand all of it. I also am surprised about how little people subscribed to your patreon. I thought you would get at least €200 per month given your sub count. It’s sad to see that your channel isn’t financially viable for you to run but ultimately I understand. Its unreasonable to put in 20 hours per week to make half of minimum wage
Being a 'music' producer, i have earned approx 10 pence an hour for last 5 years lol. This world is so full of talentless fad millionaires that im all for nuke wipeout at this point. . .
Great videos just so you know i and many others dont care about the subtitles (which takes you the most times), i would still love the channels if you just upload the wochenshau in High Quality, because they are so hard to find on the internet
Thanks, but the main idea of this channel is to provide english subtitles- thats basically the main reason/ selling point, so I will not leave them out^^
I really understand and I understood the sadness in your voice; It is really a difficult situation and may God help you; My suggestion is that you can reduce the upload speed to one newsweek per month or do it without subtitles, because you know that today with the advancement of artificial intelligence, even RU-vid itself can automatically translate into any language with high accuracy (not very accurate). But I make a friendly suggestion; I know you hate, but it is better if you want to activate the short videos of the channel to get more views, because that way you will get members faster, and of course if these are from the newsweeks, it is better, the audience will be encouraged to see the newsweeks. In general, as someone who follows your channel from the beginning, your channel is really a great treasure and source on RU-vid and it is a shame to deprive us of it, be less active, but please don't leave us forever. We like your videos & support you till end.
I have nothing but contempt for anyone who says "too long, didn't read." Please consider that it's summertime right now and people are busy with other things of interest. Also consider there are children who enjoy history and who will benefit from your videos. I will gladly contribute to your work, because my own daughter is a budding history buff! Also, lately I have noticed that RU-vid has been unsubscribing me from various channels that I have subscribed to. As for the algorithms right now its very skewed especially when there was lots of political drama recently and there will be an American Presidential race and Wahl in November. I hope things work out for your benefit and the benefit of your viewers.
I dont really think it has anything to do with the seasons- I had days in June and August last year where my videos reached 60k+ views. And sure, as Ive said, RU-vid is constantly tinkering out on their algorithm, so I'm not particularly surprised, but i still have to deal with the consequences one way or another.
@@GermanWWIIArchiveThank you for the chronicle of German propaganda and wish you good luck, your Trudy was not in vain for helping me a lot in the exam
I don't get ANY money from my channel because I only have 924 subscribers and not many regular viewers but that doesn't stop me posting videos because I enjoy the creativity.
The Wochenschau's with some keywords in the description got more views. Maybe add a keyword to the historical event they cover? I really value your channel a lot! Maybe you could economize a bit on your lengthy clarifications at the start of the video's (for your sake, not ours!).
All kinds of different RU-vidrs comment on how the 'almighty algorithm' is just impossible to understand in terms of why their videos are or aren't recommended, and that they have constant ups and downs with no explanation. Everyone says likes and comments help, but others seem to find no real association. I doubt Google has any idea what is going on, and the whole thing is just a vague attempt to control the system. It's a shame really, especially when it affects really good channels like yours. Well I for one will keep my Patreon support going as long as you feel you can maintain the channel. I certainly can't fault you for ending things if it's really so unrealistic to continue- it'd just be a shame as nobody does as well as you do. Certainly not the likes of Mark Felton, etc., whose channel I've set to not be recommended since so much of what he posts is tripe.
I never tried to run a channel so I might be wrong but maybe shorter videos about specific events can attract more people's attention and increase the number of recommendations, because these days people want to learn something by watching short videos. Like "X event in German news".
It would be ironic if this turns out to be your most viewed video in a while.. may well happen! I know a thing or two about being «limited» by YT btw. Not sure that’s what’s happening with your channel (only a couple of minutes in still). But it’s annoying. One time a video got 2300 views in 24 hours, it’s still at 2300 a year later. Many such cases. Recently an old German song was taken down at 90k views as well. I don’t care enough to appeal it but again: annoying.
My two cents as someone who runs two big history related RU-vid channels. Have a look at your back catalogue and see what content did well. It's videos that promise something unique (raw color footage) or a new perspective about something people already know (battle of France, Battle of Kursk). Also consider which thumbnails performed the best. I cannot stress enough how important thumbnails are on RU-vid. Faces of German soldiers, soldiers in combat, tanks, that's the stuff that works. What is happening: You had a few videos bomb in a row with weak thumbnails and titles that didn't stick on out on the viewer's individual Homepages and lost against something else they clicked on. But this trend can be reversed as soon as you would have a hit video again. Even though you are an archival channel with an academic goal, you are still in competition with other channels and operate in the attention economy and need to play by RU-vid rules. RU-vid ruthlessly measures click through rate and if your video doesn't perform with the audience, it will stop recommending it to new viewers. But all is not lost, you had some success already, consider what worked and select future videos accordingly. You also don't need to upload weekly to make a channel viable. What you could try right now: change the thumbnails and possibly titles of the videos that bombed. A new and better thumbnail can completely revitalize a video.
By "videos that bombed" you mean changing the thumbnails of videos that did good or that didnt do well? I've actually been using the youtube thumbnail testing feature quite a lot recently, because I always have a hard time deciding for a thumbnail as well... For me it always seems super random what does well and what doesnt. Some of my 1945 Newsweeks have 130k views, others dont even reach 20k.
@@GermanWWIIArchive "bombed" = video did poorly. And you should look at the most successful videos and see what you can learn from them. For example, look at your last ten regular uploads. You can see a correlation between dramatic combat scenes or soldiers and the success of the video. The two most successful ones (One year of conquests and the color footage by the pilot) also already tell a story/give a reason to click on it. This video will show Japanese propaganda footage from their first year of conquests, this video will show private color footage from a Luftwaffe ace. In your standard uploads, the title could as well be a random assortment of letters and numbers to people who don't know what the Wochenschau is. The dates are also random if they are not close to really famous events. My recommendations would be: - look at your past videos and extrapolate which thumbnails work and see if you can revive videos that flopped - make your titles more descriptive and offer context with famous keywords like certain battles, units, etc. - for your planning: Make sure you alternate between "crowd pleasers" and "deep cuts", the general RU-vid audience will say they want "forgotten history" but actually they mostly click on things there are at least somewhat familiar with. There is also a hierarchy in terms of the popularity of certain WW2 fronts. Normandy is a very strong topic, and your last video has some incredible scenes which could work well on the thumbnail. Focus on combat shots with clearly visible German soldiers instead of something abstract like paratrooper patch. I would also add the Battle of Battle of Villers-Bocage to the title. It's quite late in the video, so for the people who are angry about "clickbait", you could also add chapter markers to the video, so they can chose what they want to watch and have context about what's in the video.
Your channel is of cultural value beyond borders. You serve the public of the world by creating an archive of audiovisual documents. That's not a playing job. Try upscaling via AI, for instance. If you feel like giving the videos an edge. There are algorithms, free or available on torrent sites. Regards from Russia.
Admittedly, I stopped watching your videos for some time this past year because they were re-uploads of videos I had already seen. Maybe it’s a combination of this and a change in the algorithm?
Its a very rough calculation I did a while ago. A profesional translation usually costs around 11 cent per word, and I just looked at how many words my longer videos and my Newsweek on average had, and added that up. Again, its a very rough and not accurate calculation, but its just to give you an idea how much all of this would cost.
Transit Film GmbH owns the copyright to most of this material, and you've never addressed that fact. Just tell us you can't make money off these videos because of that.
I did adress that very topic in a different video a few weeks ago. (Which you probably didn't saw). And no, that has nothing to do with that. Besides, the very idea that they own anything is wrong, because Transit Film GmbH doesn't exist anymore.
To make a long story short, I cant monetize my videos because they are flagged as non-monetizable by RU-vid. This has nothing to do with copyright, its more that I am basically free to upload whatever I want, but RU-vid wont run ads on it. At any rate, you dont have to be here, and it sounds like you dont particularly like my channel anyway...
before I always could see one of your video among the suggestions of RU-vid, but from about a month or more there has not been a single video of you among my suggestions...
Just to let you I think you have been doing a tremendous job. Maybe continue as a hobby, next to a day-time job? Making a living out of YT with in-depth content (not amusement) is virtually impossible. Google makes billions from everybody’s content.
Hey there, For one time donation, I do have a Buy me a coffee page, so feel free to check it out if you would like!: buymeacoffee.com/germanwwiiarchive
I don't understand aren't you just reuploading old news reels? How does uploading videos cost you any money? Are you paying for these news reels? If you're paying money to upload these reels then yeah you're not going to make money that way.
My only issue is that I don’t understand why you delete my comments related to the ridiculous narrator OF THE WOCHENSHAU videos. I am not (repeat: NOT) aiming anything at YOU!! I am simply pointing out the ridiculous cadence of the person narrating the images!! I am ALLOWED TO DO THIS!!! Virtually my entire extended family were butchered by the Nazis!!! BUTCHERED!! Why? Because they happened to pray to a different God! I can make fun of the over-dramatic narration of a video!!!
Hi, Im not sure if any of your comments were deleted or not. I have no problem with satirical comments, so they usually shouldn't be deleted. But of course, I also make mistakes, and maybe I misunderstood your comment.
@@GermanWWIIArchive: unfortunately all of my comments were deleted. I wrote my comments in German trying to parody the ridiculous over dramatic cadence of the narrator. This is absolutely not a comment on you…I appreciate you posting this and appreciate your channel. Thanks, Regards Allon Mielke.
