I pulled onto the drive in for this particular field and was going a little too fast, turning a little to sharp. Ended up with a Jackknifed manure tank!

Dont feel too bad about the jackknife. We've all been there. Between pulling silage wagons on wet hills, grain wagons on gravel drives, and the occasional hay wagon that just turns evil, it happens before you know it. Like my dad and grandpa always say, " Nobody got hurt and the lesson you learned was something that will make you a better operator " Glad you are safe.

I wish that you'd shot footage of conversations like the one I'm sure happened when your Dad and you strategized about how to unfold the jackknife! I really think it would make your channel even more interesting for your subscribers... The human piece for me is sometimes as enjoyable to watch as chores and fixin' stuff. Still I'm lovin' binging on your videos during our quarantine! Thanks, man!

This is what I really love about your channel. You show your mistakes to the internet, and you don't just show when things are going 100% smoothly. It really shows us people that aren't in the farming industry that mistakes happen! I feel it gives us a better picture of what farming really is, and how anything can happen. Great video. Love your channel! Edit: mistakes like this are how you grow and learn!

Hello again young fella ,yes you surely did jack knife it to perfection ,probably wont be the last time you make a mistake in life ,mind you there is one certain way to never make a mistake with machinery ,the only remedy is lock all machinery in a shed ,that way you are guaranteed never to make a mistake lol , over here in Scotland we would say you have an old head on young shoulders ,meaning you are clever beyond your years , it is good to see you are not afraid to admit to doing mistakes ,it takes a big man to show that on a worldwide web ,am proud to watch your videos over here in Bonnie Scotland ,my uncles and grandfather also had dairy farms ,they had british friesians not holsteins ,but still great looking at the black and whites ,have a great day stay safe ,looking forward to next video ,ta ta the noo

Great video! You're absolutely right about the shear bolts. Design to break so the PTO inside the tractor doesn't. I see so many people replace them with just the regular nuts & Bolt. They are too hard and don't break thus causing damage to the PTO. They need to always replace Shear bolts with the manufacturer suggested shear bolt not a regular Nut and Bolt. Save time and a lot of money

The design of that big tanker with 4 axles affects your tractors steering and stability along with the tremendous weight makes it easier to jackknife. Fortunately there was no damage. My neighbour flipped his tanker on a side road when he got too far over to miss an on coming car. The tank was badly caved in but still useable after some repairs.

A young farmer near me was driving down a steep road. Drove through the 180° curve and then the manure spreader started pushing the tractor. It jacknifed(was that right) pushed him in the railing of the bridge. The tires on the back where garbage after that.the slreader also took some damage, luckily he wasn't injured

I was joking last time when I suggested an upgrade to a 400HP tractor but it may have opened your eyes as to just how large and heavy a full tanker of slurry can boss about a tractor even on rear duals!!!! Looking a some vids from USA and CANADA and I see some fantastic footage of Case Steiger and New Holland 400 HP plus tractors at work doing everyday jobs like you!!! The way you look after all you gear and barns is a credit to you kiddo!! Stay safe!!!!

Jan you did a textbook jack knife! You said it, speed was a major factor. Loose soil was a factor but also helped the tractor slide. If it didn't slide may have flipped tractor. Although unlikely with duals, but never know. BTW did I see ya in blue jeans??? That must be tractor driving attire lol!¡ It's amazing little 9\16 bolts hold all that power!!! Always amazed me.

If Manure tank got good working brakes risk of Jackknife is lower. Now the Tank push the tractor. means adjust the brakes, so they react faster. like with normal truck trailers first tank brakes than tractor. In EU a trailer is 32.000 kilo and the trekker Scania, Actros, DAF XF is about 7.500 kilo. that also works.

Bummer, Yan I pray for your safety. Dealing with manure and heavy loads and powerful tractors is all very dangerous. Hauling a heavy load is nothing to be taken lightly. You might think that being in a big diesel tractor that you are safe, but all that weight behind you has a lot of momentum which can kill you even in a tractor. I always think of the worst when pulling a load with a weight near the tow rating of the unit. Anyways, since the shear screws are screwed together (vs a pin which is held in place), they may have a torque rating when assembling together.

@timothymbonham4453
@timothymbonham4453 4 года назад
Digesters are worthwhile when their 'fuel' source is otherwise 'waste'. But this manure isn't waste to Jan -- it is needed fertilizer for their fields. Otherwise they would have to be buying expensive chemical fertilizer to spread on their fields. The environmental guideline is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle -- in that order! Jan is reusing the manure as fertilizer, which is better than recycling it into methane in a digester. So more environmentally sound.
