So, I wanna clarify some things in regards to Phantasy Star Online 2. Phantasy Star Online 2 gets no updates. It's on life support at best. Phantasy Star Online 2 NEW GENESIS, the successor to PSO2, gets regular updates. They have a Headline and a pair of trailers every month showing what is going to be released the for the next 30-ish days. Furthermore. Playing New Genesis is as easy as downloading it off PlayStation Network, Steam, whatever you call the Xbox store...probably a few other sources. As for downloading and playing the old PSO2, it's downloadable as free DLC for New Genesis. Nothing stopping anyone interested from playing it.
PSO2 was a pain to play/install before it got released wolrdwide essential a year before new genesis happened. So yes Playing Old PSO2 was a massive pain, and its been like that for 8 full years before WW release. Plus personally New genesis has removed quite alot of the social aspect of the game and with its release is trying to milk PSO2 dry
@@arkura1812 PSO2 was a pain to play, yes. Until about...four or five years ago? Seeing as New Genesis has recently had it's 3rd Anniversary , and you say PSO2 came out globally a year before. Unfortunately for me I was only able to play once it dropped on PS4/5 about 2 years ago. In any case it's not remotely relevant to how things are now and people should be informed of that first and foremost. As for social aspects, pretty sure NGS has more and, imo, better. All the same emotes are still available with many more, Portable Holograms are a thing now, the housing system is significantly better than what PSO2 had to offer and that bleeds into the Alliances, which use the same system and lets players make absolutely amazing customized Alliance Spaces that can host up to 100 players simultaneously. Symbol Art is still a thing, alongside an ever growing list of Stamps. And Photo Rooms, that I've not personally messed with but have seen used for very nice solo and group shots. As for the community itself, I very regularly see people just chatting in the different hubs and goofing off.
"Nothing stopping anyone interested from playing it." I do wish Sega had it set up for PSO2 to function separately from New Genesis, feels terrible having to tell anyone interested in trying it that they also have to download New Genesis and get through its tutorial before you can access PSO2. While nothing is stopping people from playing PSO2, Sega certainly made it more of a pain than needed to get to. Even more so if your machine can't run New Genesis.
@@jwithextrajj figured someone would say that lol, I didn't start playing till about a month ago, but my gf played it a lot when she was younger. Even now I'm pretty impressed with what the game offers, and I'll be real, it was the single biggest inspiration for this video.
THIS!!!! OMG SOMEONE SAID IT!!!! PLS BLOW UP....i really wish we have another Warframe or Dragon dogma online or even Monster hunter online.... monster hunter and warframe are the thing i keep coming back because the combat was so damm damm good! and yes Final fantasy 16 and devil may cry making a come back is chef kiss
I played so much of Global Agenda way back. I honestly thought it got shut down and you can't play it anymore. Thank you so much for bringing it up! Great video too :>
@@kaylee_reed thank you! Discovering GA was what gave me the idea for this video in the first place, and discovering that it was still playable left me pretty confused as to why hi-res didn't shut It down, but glad I could bring it up. Playing it firsthand, I have to say I wish I discovered it earlier back in its hay day
@@Princemouse9 I don't think it ever was really big even in it's prime. But regardless it was extremely fun and it wasn't the "huge audience" that made it so. It has really influenced the genres and the way I play games now by just the sheer choice you had as a player. (Also don't even start me on customization. It was so awesome)
Warframe is really hitting its stride to be honest they just added a few new main story missions and its pvp online mode is really not a big part of the game
@@ReallyBillyBoggs warframe has been doing really good lately! The pvp is pretty whatever and I doubt they'll ever update it, but these last couple of content updates are pretty good. I'm hoping 1999 acts an amazing final flourish this a string of good updates
@@Princemouse9 It's one of those things where it's low-maintenance enough that they can just keep it in the game for the few players that actually enjoy it, and the rest can ignore it. Sure, it's pretty lame that there's quite a few cosmetics locked behind it, but it's mostly inoffensive. It would be pretty neat if they added a new pvp mode with a balanced playing field though.
First off: Guild Wars 2 is the most ORPG feeling MMO out there, especially with the dodge roll and action cam. Seond: You should try Dungeons and Dragons Online (not Neverwinter!), as it also sounds like it could scratch your itch.
Games i know that dont play liek traditional MMOs, would be: Elsword (Fighter based) Cant recommend massive spike in later levels requiring massive grinds or cash. Good combat system though. Closers (Fighter based) Similar to elsword Dungeon fighter online (fighter based) Wakfu/Dofus/waven (Strategy/tile turn based) Not that sure fi they count as ORPGs though, me and my friends awlays called them instance based MMOs Elsword is one of my favourite games of all time, but i ended up havign to abandon it due to it jsut trying to Milk players for cash and time now, and it no longer focusing on comboes endgame but only skills. the PvP is still incredible though if somewhat unbalanced due to gear mattering so i suggest playing PvP in sparrign rooms, there gear is normalized. Closers is made by former elsword devs, and is because of that very similar but also very different, it has a different pvp systems, and plays in a different dimension than elsword.
I don't really get the PSO2 portion. Nothing is stopping you from playing PSO2. Yes there are less people online than there used to be but those who do still play PSO2 would love to have new faces check out the game. For the past year or so I've been grinding PSO2 on the side to finish endgame goals I never got to finish over on JP servers and cleared the hardest Quests in the game earlier this year. The game has been kept as DLC specifically so the game doesn't die like PSU did. Even with the clementine Fanserver the DLC content is just inaccessible. Furthermore NGS is a really good game and it excels at the exact things you talked about in the video. It has a really easy to pick up and hard to master combat system, lots of player expression through EX Weapon augments (which have unique effects), TechArts customization (allowing you to alter the behavior of your attacks) and the new M.A.R.S. system. Not to mention the best character creator on the market that recently updated with a new face type allowing you to make anime characters more easily. A housing system where your imagination is the only real limit. And a really fun CCG minigame featuring card Artworks from the defunct JP exclusive PSO2 TCG. Don't let the haters sour your opinion on the game. There are a lot of things to love about it and the "Mostly Positive" Steam rating is reflective of that. As someone who played the game since 2013 I see a lot of passion from the developers being put into the game.
@@Cathy5614 I don't know how else to say this, especially since you make a lot of good points. I just feel like something is missing now, and whatever that something was the lack of it was enough for me to stop playing. ngs left a bad taste in my mouth, and I really wish that wasn't the case. I don't wanna seem like I'm shutting you down here, but pso2 as a whole package feels diffrent now, and I just don't like it and trust me I wish I did. If you enjoy it then don't let me or anyone else tell you youre wrong, It just not for me anymore and that makes me and a ton of other disappointed
@@kerkblack836 I don't think it's a hot take to say ng is... diffrent. A lot of people say it changed for the worse and I'd have to agree, pretty much out the gate It had problems and seemingly most issues haven't gotten addressed properly, sucks going back to base pso2 feels kinda... hollow ig
i miss old warframe, before the devs and players became so obsessed with power fantasy that they destroyed the games difficulty any the incentive to play with other players.
So like, you miss the first year of the game, maybe second year if you push it? Warframe's been a power fantasy looter shooter for the vast majority of its lifespan.
Current endgame can be pretty difficult. I did a deep archemedia this week where 3/4 players died and we only had ~20 seconds left before we failed. Yes, most of the game is trivial but it can be hard.
