I built the baffle last week. It works perfect. I measured the air velocity at two vents with a Radio Shack wind speed meter. Before the modification I measured 6 mph at both vents. After the modification I measured 8-9 mph at both vents. That is more than 40% in line with what others have found with this modification. Thx for the great directions

I DID IT ALL BY MYSELF! Not bad for a 77 year old grandma. I love your videos. You manage to show exactly where to work and what to do without skipping a step or getting your hands in the way so I can see what you are doing. I was a rookie camper two years ago and quickly found your site. When I have a problem, I go to you first for answers and usually find them. I’ve also purchased many of the products you’ve recommended-thankfully. Keep those videos coming.

I did this a couple of years ago, worked great. One thing I never hear about which I did also is increase the size of the vents. On our 30 ft 5th wheel we had one small round vent in the bedroom which never cooled the room. I popped the register out, felt the dimensions of the duct, cut a larger hole & installed a standard house vent. This was at the end of the duct, so I wasn't starving any other vents downstream. I greatly increased the comfort & airflow into the bedroom. When you think about it, it increases the airflow thru the A/C which increases the efficiency. I am a retired HVAC tech.

FINALLY!!!!! Hubby and I watched your video on how to get the a/c in our travel trailer up to speed and man!!!! Best modification ever!! It took us about 4 hours and we taped up everything inside the box that the factory should have done. We didn’t have a measurement for the improvement but we took a quick 2 night trip at a local campground for a trial run. We were totally shocked at the difference. Our 30 ft camper has one a/c and it’s always been a struggle to camp in the summer in SC and surrounding areas. Well, that’s old news now. We had to keep raising the thermostat from our previous settings. Actually got a little chilly :) So excited about this project and so happy for your helpful advice. We always learn something from you. We’ve been camping for years but we always want to know more. Your channel is a great resource. Thanks again

Great video and even better modification. It’s easy enough that anyone can do it. When I opened my unit up, there were so many air leaks due to a poor installation at the factory. After I got mine done, it’s noticeably cooler and quieter. I live in Texas and normally don’t do anything here during the summer. With this mod, tinting the windows and adding reflectix over the windows, I was able to cool my RV from 92 (inside), 104 (outside) to 75 in about 90 minutes. Best part, was the whole RV was cool.

I’m in Florida. If it’s 104* outside, it will be 120* inside. 30’ Jayco with one A/C can get it down to 80* in about 30 minutes. Anymore, I leave the thermostat at 78* and all is well. If I try to cool it down to 72*, it struggles significantly

I did this upgrade today but in addition I removed all 5 registers. These were all retapped. The two near the ends I built a dam to stop air passing register into dead space. In addition I cut some of the registers 1 1/2” mount height making it easier for cooler air to flow into them. A full days work for a retired guy but the flow is much much stronger and I believe will be way more efficient! Thx for the tip to get me started!

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS so what if you have a double side vent. So you’re saying you won’t need those anymore since the RV has the roof vents? I think I have 6 in my living and kitchen and then 1 upstairs and 2 in the bedroom. Bedroom stays very hot. Also I have 2 units. I just want to make sure if I do close them up it would be able to still push enough air out with them being closed.
@jeffsumeracki7263
@jeffsumeracki7263 Год назад
I did this and WOW, what a difference! Air is now evenly flowing throughout the entire RV instead of just in the rear where the unit is. And YES, its MUCH quieter! Don't have to raise volume on TV when A/C kicks in anymore. Took 2 hours after supplies in hand.

Hi friends. I saw you shared your link in RV Content Creators and wanted to get over and check out your video. Thank you for sharing it! This is really neat. We have talked about how some parts of our RV have better air flow than others. Adding the 45 degree cuts was a smart way to get a flush fit. I had installed a similar device (tepee) a couple of years ago, but it was not as sealed as this method. Today I used your method. Was hoping for more air flow and lower noise. My lase device utilized some noise reduction also, so no improvement with this method. But the increase in air flow was 21 % which is significant. Very happy with your method! Definitely worth the effort.

I had the steel divider with spot welds attaching it to the flat sheet metal mounting plate, but my fan discharge was not centered so I had to tweak the teepee from your layout slightly. I went a step further and insulated around the whole vent opening with reflectix bubble wrap and aluminum tape. The cooling capability is 100 times better. My bunk area is getting much more flow. Actually, all the vents have higher flow rates. I suspect cold air was getting sucked and pushed into the hot side. My system cools so much better that both the blower and compressor cycle on and off. Thanks for posting this.

Great mod and instructional! A little sneaky how your tape just appeared tho, that was rather labor intensive. I'm not a qualified handyman but neither am I a slouch. I put 7 hours in on the ac unit and 2 hours in on the vents(not described here, just remove the cylinders and tape the transition from duct to each vent) After finishing the ac unit I had 39% greater airflow and a 4db reduction in noise. After doing the vents, airflow improvement was upped to a full 50%! Recommended if you don't mind putting the time in.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO - WORKS GREAT! Just made the change two weeks ago - went on a 5 day trip in still hot Texas (not today - 37 and brrr) and it was so much better. We did not have to turn on the Closed Captions when watching TV, could actually talk to each other, and all but one vent was blowing great; BLOWING STRONG IN THE BEDROOM. Certainly plan to open the vent cover to the vent that is not blowing well to determine the problem, and will examine all of the vents so just make sure everything is looking good. The jigsaw works great, just know that you may need a mask and may want to try to contain the particles - they get everywhere - and they cling; but they vac up too! THANKS AGAIN!

I am absolutely amazed how well this modification is working! We have only done the front a/c and I am not sure we need to do the rear (bedroom a/c). Since we have a different coach, if we do the rear a/c we will be using 1/2 foam board. We are in the high desert in Southern Utah. Outside temps have reached triple digits, but the inside of our Palazzo has not been higher than a comfortably dry 80 degrees! Noise level has been reduced, but not drastically.

Great video. This is a great upgrade and highly recommend it even for brand new camper. Much better air flow. This definitely should be the standard to prevent freezing up issues. The manufacturers should work with RV Air and incorporate their product into all campers. Thanks again for another great video. Keep it up and happy camping.

Great video, the noise is the biggest issue for me (I live in Michigan) I’m sure this will help with that too, I guess you could cut notches in for the dump feature to work after the modification, but I think I would try it without the notches first and go from there. Thanks again 🙏👍

kind of the same for me... even though our AC ran alot prior to this, its a small trailer and it got nice and cool, but the sound difference was important to us too.

I went to do this mod on my 2022 Imagine 2670MK, and I guess Grand Design has been watching you.!My AC has had this partially done at the factory! There's a divider between the hot and cold, and a bit of a slope forcing the air into the ventilation. Great video though. You're easy to follow and enyoyble to watch.

Great idea. I purchased the rv air flow a couple of years ago also works GREAT, but costs way more. One other suggestion that I did, at the end of the duct work runs I put a piece of foam to block off any air leaks at the ends of the run. All of it helps a lot. Just wish the rv builders would insult the roof better. Keep up the good work.

Ross, trying to get a materials list in your description without watching the whole video in Lowe’s! I will say a year must make a huge difference in materials. The tape alone was $23.00 foam Board was $13.00 still cheaper than the $170.00 of the prefab model. Thanks for the post.

My baffle is in and I am ready to put the control box up and zip tie wires when I noticed that one of the wires is not going to any connection and has no evidence of being crimped in on of the connections. This leads me to believe that the 4 wire harness only needed 3 of the wires. I’ll test the AC before closing it all up. Great video !!

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS it turns out it’s an unused wire on the harness. Tapped it off and the AC works better than ever. Both cleaners arrive today so I’ll get on the roof in the morning to clean the unit per your video instruction. This will make a big difference in the Arizona sun. Thank you!

You should pull your vent registers and check to see if you have air leaks going into your ceiling. I had three of my seven ceiling vent with large openings. I use the same A/C tape on all of my vents. Good job on your video, I did both of my A/C, big improvement in air flow

Great instructional! Step by step, easy to follow. I just did this to my trailer and can’t wait to try it out in the TX heat. Did you torque the mounting bolts? If so, to what? Install instructions of my unit says 40-50 lb-in. I did 40 and I feel like I didn’t turn them as much when loosening. Thank you for the great video 👏👏👏
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

i did not torque them with a wrench, but mine are tight... remember, thats what holds the AC to the RV.

I watched this because my AC was barely blowing and wanted to try this before installing a second AC unit. Well it turns out that whoever installed the AC unit put that metal bracket in backwards and the air was mixing! I flipped it 180 and now it blows way harder! I plan on still doing this modification though because that summer heat is right around the corner

Excellent modification. I did mine last night. Quick question: The Thermostat box in the return air, there is a wire coming from it that doesn't connect to anything else, I am guessing that is the wire that measures the temperature - or is it the whole box? If it is that wire, where is the best place to locate it. The AC is much quieter!! And, it doesn't seem to stay on as long - So, I am guessing that it did what it was supposed to do!
