Here’s another tip. If you’re in a neighborhood with a lot of graffiti where some of it appears to be scribbling out or “crossing out” other graffiti, you’re likely in territory where 2 gangs are fighting with each other. Be very careful in those areas and don’t get caught in the middle of it!

Im from NY orginally but lived in LA for 2 years. I wear dad hats, dont be flashy, be really on point on the subways. Dont always pay for the train, only at certain stations, do not pay at Compton. Dont mumble, never show fear, stay calm, be respectful. Downtown LA is very bad no matter how expensive it is. Racism is a whole different ball game than NY, and that will reflect in healthcare, work environments, and housing. Has beautiful scenery though, the beaches are awesome, gig apps pay more, and the ladies are a lot more friendly here, dating shouldn't really be a problem, unless you are purposely enjoying your solitude. Be prepared for lots of random conversations, some people love randomly talking to strangers. Thats it in a nut shell.

Been here in L.A. for over 20+ as an adult so I can give a pretty good heads up. Simplest advice is don’t try to go be cool with everyone just because. Keep a tight circle & get familiar with the side of town that suits you. If u plan to be here for awhile just take time and learn different sides of the city. Less random type movement until you been here for some time. Best is to keep it simple / safe.

As someone who’s lived in LA and is from the Bay, I can say that the whole state done went off a damn cliff. Even when it was bad in the 90s there were still areas you could go to to get away from all the crime and drama. Now, even in some bougie and posh areas you gotta keep your head on a swivel. Just a few weeks ago there was a shooting in Pier 39 in San Francisco, a HELLA touristy area. Something like that was unheard of before. “Bipping” in the Bay Area is getting out of control and LA definitely ain’t much better. I’ve said many times that I don’t understand why people not from here or don’t have any family ties here would move out here long term. The cost of living is high and other than the really great weather and topography the costs ain’t really worth it if you just out here to parlay. With all of that said though, it isn’t as bad or good as the movies and media have historically portrayed it. Everywhere ain’t gonna be like the Boyz in the Hood movie just like everywhere ain’t gonna be like the Beverly Hills 90210 show. The reality is somewhere in the middle of all that and it’s important to do adequate research before moving ANYWHERE.

I had a mobile pet grooming business and my tag line was I groom from Malibu to Watts. Pay attention to where you are and realize that LA is car culture so anyone can be anywhere at anytime, so just be aware ALL the time, everywhere. P.S. years ago someone who I casually knew mentioned that he never would break into a home or rob someone in South Central but had no problem going to the wealthier areas so just because it looks wealthier doesn't mean you are safer. Never been hassled, never been robbed. Be confident, don't be perceived as a possible threat, be respectful. I would also say be careful where you are after dark. Its a different city. Thanks for your insights. I moved here to L.A. nearly 5 months ago from Savannah, GA. I'm in South Central and take public transportation, and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, so I've got good street smarts, and of course did my homework before moving here. Still, it's good to hear as many tips as possible. BTW: Savannah is worse crime-wise.

Stay alert. You'll be good and carry yourself well . NYC street smarts will keep you ahead of people in the workforce and just for getting ahead in general. Please understand though that LA gang culture is nothing like NYC nor is the criminal mindset. Its senseless violence here not even about money. Just keep that in mind people are more ignorant and less intelligent overall. Its a diff culture. Aside from that people are very friendly and LA is a great city full of history all over the county.

How is the public transportation? I'm thinking of moving there from Boston
@AdeebShabazz
@AdeebShabazz 10 месяцев назад
@@RellyMedia the public transportation is alright. It all depends on what you're trying to get done. As a native New Yorker who grew up with what is probably the premier public transportation system, and also as someone who just spent 21 years in a town (Savannah) that has a horrible transportation system, I found a middle ground here. The train system is relatively new (30 years) and is still being built, so the routes are limited. The busses take up the slack where the trains leave off, and they run pretty regularly: about every 10-15 minutes. If you are living in L.A. and trying to get around in L.A. then you shouldn't have a problem. If you are traveling between L.A. and Long Beach, Azusa, San Fernando Valley, or the San Gabriel Valley then you'll do fine. The problem is that L.A. COUNTY is SO large that many of the other cities and towns in the area are inaccessible or poorly accessible by public transportation, so if you are moving here and want to rely on public transportation, choose L.A., downtown Long Beach, Azusa or somewhere very nearby those locations, avoiding other cities and suburbs in the are before you investigate them individually about their transportation proximity.

Its crazy to me in the main part of the city , that the main cinemas have not reopened and Walgreens has left The worst part is , people are just not like they were, people are not as friendly and are closed off - which is natural when you think how the media there made everyone think everyone else had a killer virus

I’ve from MD visited Cali(LA mostly) a few times. I’ve built a career as a model and artist in MD but I’m running into the wall of needing more opportunities. Decided after my last visit that I want to move out there. My male best friend and I made it official we’re moving there in June 2024. I like your energy and would love to connect with you if possible for tips or advice on moving there. Keep doing your thing I really enjoyed this video and could relate to a lot of what you said.

I'm not an American but I love travel vlogs. And this is an excellent video. Because what I find funny is when Americans visit countries such as Colombia, Mexico, or Brazil and wonder if it is safe...? Feel where I'm heading already. lol Maybe I watch too much American criminality, but in some cases, the level of crime that happens in America is worse than in South America. You don't have mass killings/shootings in (kindergarten) schools, parades, concerts, and every other place you can imagine.. So yeah...always found that crazy. But then again Americans are funny people.

It’s funny you say this because I’m black American and scared to leave America but will visit Detroit in the worse areas and not be scared😂😂😂

America is generally safe but yes, we have some issues. We have 330 million people. Most people won't see any of the things you mentioned. We don't have favelas and "devils breath" like South America.

Good video brother Rome. I lived Cali about 20 years ago. However, I did visit LA, as well as, the Bay Area. Shout out to the DMV as well. You mentioned you were originally from that area. That’s cool. Honestly, if I hit lottery, or got my money together, some suburbs like Santa Monica are pretty cool. As well as parts of the LBC, as long as you’re careful with your gear, like you mentioned. Good work brother. Peace. ✌️

@kevinfarmer5100 LA is very dangerous now. 😳 Break ins while people are home, like today in Mission Viejo. Very homeless, very filthy, expensive and unsustainable. You can get shot eating lunch in Beverly Hills. Not normal.... this guy isn't lying. I lived in LA for three decades. Glad I no longer do.
