16 minutes, one take. Got his point across as clear as day for anyone to understand. Humble and wholesome. This is the reason we don't care about celebrities or stars anymore. This is the cure America needs: Real people. With real values and lives. Not the fake and phony shit, the secret and often fucked up lives that the "celebrities" are. Thank you. We appreciate you man.
No it's more like why does he hoard money when he could use that money to increase the quality of his families life/ donate to charities. Hoarding money is its own form of greed and materialism.

I'm 50+. I've been an IT guy for 20 of those years and a gamer for 30+. Your take on things is really what the world needs. I just started following your main channel a week ago (sorry) and I have to say, it's timeless; meaning you could have uploaded something that's 3 years old or whatever, but the opinions are still relevant. This showed up in my feed and it was nice to get to know you a little nit more. So thanks for that. You're honest and wholesome and I appreciate that. In some ways, I admire younger folks like yourself who have an opportunity to express and share like they do today. I'm a trader. I've won and lost it all many times and this too has led me to be more practical and humble with what I have. I want to finish and win the game, like anyone else but I also know that excess is not success. I wish I knew at 30 what I know now. You're a very fortunate man to have the introspect that you do now. Contentedness is happiness. We all get there when we get there. I'm happy for you and proud. Guys like you, restore my faith in humanity. I love your honesty, appreciate your frustration and just generally respect and admire you. I really hope your future bodes well, you seem to have that under control and I wish you all the best, Zack. 🙏🙌🤝
As a 47 year old bloke I can only second this comment! I've got a 11year old son right now who I'm trying to teach these sort of value's to.. Maturity is within as you really don't get many people showing this sort of restraint against the modern day way of materials as AsmonGold is showing here,But it's nice to see someone step up as a ambassador for the younger generation and to see it's possible to have a for filling life without brand's or flash cars ect.
You do not know if he's honest and wholesome. This could be all an act. I believe that he's doing this persona on purpose to keep the haters off of his tail because he's portraying this low to middle class perception on camera. Just pay attention of what he was saying in his recent video /watch?v=P8_MXwRYOJM starting at 2:33 mark.
Such a breath air to see this video. 58 year old immigrant here who've worked for same company for 32 years and going. Even now, most of the furniture in my house is second hand and there are days when I eat simple grains, like rice, corn, oatmeal and beans. I travel often for work so if my house was burglarized or even completely destroyed in a fire while I was gone, it wouldn't even matter. With this mindset, I was able to raise 4 kids and have them all attend university with great futures ahead of them. Having a sizeable 401K along with a pension, i could retire today, but that would mean I'm playing computer games for 15 hours a day which is what I do when im off work on vacation. The peace of mind of not worrying about losing all of your worldly possessions and not racing others in the materialistic rat race is probably the most valuable thing a person can possess. Literally you walk around knowing you can buy virtually anything you see and go to any high end restaurants without even looking at the bill gives you a confidence no possessions can give you. This may explain why I find Asmongold's videos so relatable and entertaining.
When you start to follow him more and learn his personality, he really is a solid dude. But just like any human beings, he has opinions that are both good AND bad. From what I saw, he owns up to his fuck ups when he shits the bed and will allow himself to grow further past his own prejudice, I think him finally playing FF14 and ACTUALLY enjoying it since he went in with an open mind pretty much speaks volume of the type of person he is, you just can't fake this type of stuff up without it sticking out like a sore thumb. Overall, A decent dude who's not affraid to speak his mind up and, just like everybody else, make mistakes. The difference here is the fact that he OWNS UP to them instead of letting his personal pride get in the way.
The thing about him that I like is that you can agree and disagree with him and he won’t let that change his opinions and mindset. Now that might sound dumb but think about it. These days people’s opinions change as often as asmons chat spamming KEKW
I know this is an older video, but its a very important message to be spreading. One of the most transformative experiences of my life was learning how to "scale it down". My issue wasn't really materialism, but in hobbies. I have a wide variety of interests, and had a penchant for doing it all. These were all things that I cared deeply for, but due to the immensity of hobbies I was trying to juggle, I never had the proper time to do any of them. I would see all of these "in progress" hobbies around my house and all they did was stress me out. I hated that I didn't have time for them, and when I finally got around to working on them, I hated myself even more for not making sufficient progress (due to not investing the proper time with them). It was a major source of depression in my life and I would find myself sitting and doing nothing, while staring at 10 different things I could be doing (and wanted to). It was like being in limbo in my own life. I finally had to sit down with myself and examine all of these things I was trying to do, and ask how they were (or weren't in this case) truly serving me. It was hard to give up and let go of things that I truly cared for, but once I ripped the band-aid off and found a level of happiness ten-fold what I had by being able to invest myself into the few things I loved the most, I never looked back. This topic is applicable to many facets of life, and reflection is an absolute must when attempting to extract as much happiness out of this already short life we have. I hope you're still finding the the same level of happiness in life that you were at the time of recording. 👍
Browser tabs. My brother insists that when he started forcing himself to close or bookmark tabs when he was done with them, and make himself close or bookmark tabs at the end of browsing, one by one, he became much more selective and aware of what he actually cared about or would bother to get around to. He said it was remarkable how much it cleared his head and made him appreciate the effect of clutter in real life on his mind as well.
I have known you through your streams in the last few years and I instantly saw you were just yourself and didn't need to prove nothing to anyone. Today I came across this video and everything you spoke about just sat well with me as I shook my head up and down in agreement to your thinking. I have almost the same views you mentioned but what really brought me a smile, was the reminder of my handsome amazing son who is in heaven. He definitely had your same philosophy of life and that was to live life in your own happy way and didn't care about material things. He noticed right away that we live in a material world, and he would always simplify things to me by telling me to ask myself if I needed the things I just bought, wanted to buy or get rid of what I already owned. So much of you resonates with my son and since his passing, a lot of how he saw this world is the way I see it now. I now try to live my life way less free of hassles and stress. I was already not about material possessions, so I have really toned down and excluded lots of things as I know it's just temporary stuff here. I could go deep into more details, but I will just leave it here and tell you thank you for just being yourself. I enjoy your streams.
I'm on the same wavelength in a way. I spent years living pay check to pay check feeling frustrated about not having enough money. I have now doubled my wage and brought down my outgoings. Paid off loads, car finance etc even walked away from having the latest phone on contract to having a sim card and a 2 year old android (one plus 8). Ultimately I don't feel any happier but the worries are gone if something goes wrong. I just want a stressful free quiet life with a few laughs along the way but being 40yo now unfortunately that doesn't happen. All you can do is be patient work towards your goal and stick to it. Everyone is different though so you can't apply the same advice to everyone. Just find a happy medium and hold onto it. Enjoy the small things. The things that make you laugh or cry. I'm still driving a 16 year old ford focus btw. It never lets me down so why change it right? Great video. It really made me think.
Brother, I watched some of your videos and streams, and never realised u have such a great mindset. And it really resonates with me. Because I am too from a wealthier family and also dress like a normal guy. I dont really show of the wealth. I am actually a bit insecure about that, ppl dont like rich people, they think they have it easier, they look at you with despect and because I know that, I try to hide it, it never did me any good - to let ppl know around me that I am from a rich family. And I kind of felt alone, didnt know there were more ppl like that. I just try to get my life together in other ways, than just getting money, bcs I have a lot of years being depressed behind me, having ptsd and adhd too. Getting medicated and therapy and starting to do things that make you happy, instead of what other people expect of you. Trying to build a life that makes you happy, gives you purpose. Money cant buy you happines, and most ppl dont realise that, because they never got there.
Yea dude, he mentioned he used to play wow with his mom, she'll buy him stuff in game and help him on raids and stuff. It's good that he still lives with her, having all that money he has, lot of people wound this dude makes A LOT of money. Yet he's living like a minimum wage person.

I discovered your channel a couple of months ago (yes I was living under a rock, thank you) and since then I can’t stop watching your videos. You keep me accompanied while I’m gaming or doing stuff in my home and I’ve always thought that you seem like such a cool guy and this video confirms everything I thought. I only wish I’d seen this video before making some choices that I now regret. Hopefully time will pass and thing will return to the way the should have been. Thank you Asmongold. You’re awesome
I appreciate you sharing your mentality and I appreciate your point of view. My grandfather who passed years ago has one thing on his tombstone: "Simplicity" - he lived his life simply and found joy in things like helping others, a good meal, seeing the sunrise another day. Even though he was a Doctor he didn't live a very materialistic life. Thank you for making me think of him, it's been too long.
Dam, this video(2years old) really helped me have a much better outlook on my current situation and tackle it with positivity, not easily but the journey will just become much more forgiving thank you Asmond
This dude makes his mother insanely proud and we all know how much he cares about her. Asmon you are a TRULY pure and genuine soul. I hope you are blessed for your entire life, you have provided so much positive energy to the wow and gaming community. You are the BEST triangle out there bro 👏
This is why i am moving back home to my home state you cant replace family or buy. Been chasing money for years its time to live a simple life with family. bless you brother
Congratulations on figuring out at such a young age what it took me decades to figure out. Most people live their whole lives trying to make other people happy and end up being miserable. Once you find out what it takes for you to be happy, and you work toward that, then you can be happy, and others will either accept you for that or they won't. It doesn't matter because you will be happy. I am 61 years old, a computer gamer who lives a modest life and drives a 10-year-old Mustang convertible, not a fancy GT. I like to wear Hawaiian shirts and listen to north European metal music. I don't fit into the box that other people think I should as a senior citizen. And I am ok with that. Most people don't like me for it, but the people that do, generally find I am very likable once you get past my weird geekiness. Zach, always be true to yourself and you will remain happy.
@@loraleiffxi Nightwish, Epica, Dark Sarah, Dark Princess, Kamelot. All the best metal comes from North Europe. Actually, Dark Princess may be from Russia.
I wanna put "Most people live their whole lives trying to make other people happy and end up being miserable." "Once you find out what it takes for you to be happy, and you work toward that, then you can be happy, and others will either accept you for that or they won't. It doesn't matter because you will be happy." On a T-shirt, what a quote.
I dont even play WoW but have been following you since the first day i saw your stream. You are unique, humble warm and sincere. Personally I suffer from bipolar disorder and i come back to this video from time to time and it always makes me feel everything is OK in someway, even if its not completely true. I thank you a lot for this and really wish you stick to this mindset, which 95% of the people lack, sadly. I hug you from thousands of miles away.
I started watching Asmon recently and, man, for the success this guy has found in life he is so damn humble and seeing this in comparison to this 2 years from now Asmon it's awesome to see how true you are to yourself and everyone else around you. Real recognize real always.
I hope we'll always get to see Asmon just talk about stuff. His voice and just his way of speaking in general is just really cozy and it feels like listening to a really close friend
This is a pretty cool testimonial! Am only recently coming upon your content (having seen your face online a lot), and I appreciate your mannerisms and simplicity. This stuff overflows nicely into how you produce content and I see now that is part of the charm.
I appreciate you! I've finally arrived in this mindset over the past few years, and it took me through a lot of rough roads. I don't have much, and have lost a lot in the process over the years. I have amazing children and a few great people that care about me, yet I realize nothing I buy or want even comes remotely close to that. That acceptance we all strive for, it's almost like a goal we never reach. It's sad most of us change who we are and strive for what others have, when all we need was right in front of us the whole time. You sharing this helped me a lot. Thank you Asmon.
I definitely agree with that, and I *think* I've come to that conclusion myself. I don't get happy buying stuff, but the things I do buy do make me very happy
im glad you had experience in both highschools, because you got to see what being a big fish in the pond, and small fish in a bigger pond. it really puts into perspective what life is like for people, its not bad that some people are born into wealth, but its also not bad that people are born into poverty, I grew up with mcdonalds toys under a paper christmas tree, and my clothes came from good will. now that im older I spend too much money on things because I never had them. But im in the process of accepting the way I grew up and realizing that I can actually use the way I grew up to save more money for the future because I learned how to scrape by, and save.
It's crazy how much a kid can suffer psychologically from growing up poor and parents constantly arguing because they're behind on rent and bills I know because I was one of those kids and after getting a job in a decent country everything I've ever wanted was 1 salary away, life is fucking unfair man I missed so many opportunities to have fun with my friends because I couldn't afford going out, I wish to become rich and offer a struggling kid like I was Everything he wishes for.
Its good to see an 'influencer' that isn't all about flexing their home, cars, money etc. Its so rubbed in our faces through media that we need these material things to be happy and heres Zack telling folk what should actually be important.
Yes! Living a materialistic life means the objects in your possession control YOU, not the other way around. You become a slave to your luxury car, expensive house
There is a huge range between flexing materalistic things owning a Mcmansion/lamborghini and living in a dump though. I dont know what his house looks like now, but given nothing is done since he made videos from his house 7-8 years aho I would guess its not the most healthy house enviroment to live in with rats/insects and so on.
I came across you when I was watching the Johnny depp trial, and I must say I like your personality and humour and also your insight, your natural down to earth nature. My son is obsessed with this gaming culture and also is easily influenced by the ones who make him feel worthless probably. So I am Going to point him in your direction x
This has really set a perspective, and has resonated with me. For most of my life all I wanted was a way to show people I was worth something. the older I grow the more it starts to lose it's hold that, that's something that matters anymore. I've lost my mother and father both before the age of 14 and life has been a major struggle. keeping jobs has been impossible because depression makes me stop trying after a while. I still don't know exactly what I want to do in life and I just hit 28. I thought I wanted to make music, but the more that time lingers, the less I pick up a guitar and the less it matters. I am hoping to learn coding, and maybe find some type of solace in that. I'm a fan of games like WoW, but I am absolutely trash at it. It would be pretty awesome to learn to code a game like that in some shape or form. I digress. Over the last 15 years the lack of things I don't have, have made me lose a person I once was. And attempt masquerading myself in such trivial things, striving only for an image. And to hear someone like yourself, who could probably have it all 10 times over, would rather just not and the explanations following, says alot about your character. Truth, I hardly know of you. I know, you're a Warcraft Streamer, that's about it. Maybe something about a messy room? Idk. lol. But anyway, hearing this, makes me want to check out your videos and get to know who you are a bit more. Thank you for sharing. It was much needed. A new fan. ~James
TRUE I think it might comes from his streaming experience. Yes, he rambles from time to time and you're not quite sure what he's trying to say BUT usually he knows exactly what to say and how to say it. This guy is an actual 5Head
Agreed. RU-vidrs who make cuts between the end of sentences and beginning of new ones drive me crazy. Yeah, it speeds everything up, but it makes the speech entirely unnatural. With Zack, you feel like he's talking to you like a normal dude you encounter on the street.
@@BS-qe3wc Nop, it doesn't. Thats just like saying someone's argument is less valid because the video has cuts. Some people talk too much and want to make the video faster, some people just like the jump cut style, some people just correct the way they said something. Imagine saying that a writter has to write his book without correcting anything lul. Anyone can practice the video before recording and do the ''uncut'' i am not criticing Asmon btw, just point out that this ''uncut'' argument is not really evidence of anything.
I don’t have much. Part time job, live back at parents, no car, ex pulled me and my daughters healthy relationship apart, haven’t seen my beautiful daughter for 2 years, have no money, best friend passed away last year. I do have times when things hit me and get me down. But I soldier on and I’m happy.. and catching up with time with family. Trying to look after myself until me and my daughter back in each others lives. And help others when I can.
Being genuine with insight goes a long way. I recently found your channel and I don’t game (that much) but I really appreciate the humor and take on a lot of topics
That quote is really pointless. Okay people who have no loved ones but have money exist. Now what? Whats his point? The money made them not have friends? Should he go and burn his money then or what? You can be likeable and have genuine friends while having money, and you can be an unloved asshole while not having money. This is just some pseudo-wise anti-capitalist rich people bad talk.
"Its very important to buy things that make you happy. But its equally important to make sure that buying things doesn't make you happy" Quoted by the great Asmongold.
New watcher as of the last few weeks. I can absolutely say that I am so impressed with your moderate takes on things, and your incredible knack for being so humble. Shoutout to you brother.
What's impressive about moderate takes? It's playing both sides to get the most viewers. If he was asked about Biden vs Trump, he'd 99% support neither of them, evne though hardcore gamers are overwhelmingly in the second camp. He never has a politically incorrect take.
Peace of mind is really one of the most important things to me too, and you're right about the fact that things own you often more than you own them, if you're not careful.
Asmongold irl : "be humble , love your friends and familly ." Asmongold in game : " listen to me b****, when you look good you fight good " Love your videos man keep it up 😎
I absolutely love this video, Zach. I am so glad that I found your channel. I found out about you through Tim the Tat Man about a year ago, and I have spent the last 2 weeks binge watching all of your videos. You are smart, wholesome, funny, and very kind. I am happy that you have the success that you do.
In this video, Zack shares his journey towards living a simple life. He reflect on their past attachment to material possessions and the realization of their superficiality and meaninglessness. Zack values financial freedom and finds contentment in owning fewer material possessions. He prioritize experiences, relationships, and pursuing passions instead. He emphasize the importance of finding fulfillment rather than material wealth and encouraging others to do what they love for a happier life. He also expresses gratitude for the support and aims to help as many people as possible with their insight.
This is simply beautiful. Apart from the astonishing fact that Zack can talk like that for 15 minutes straight without a teleprompter or notes, the message is so important and positive.
I appreciate this honest content from you Asmongold, I know you from your other videos and stumbled here. I appreciate it because their are many people that are in the 'trap' of having to have the next best thing. @@liled800 Nah, I doubt it bro. I live away from my parents now, and every time I visit them, mom's nagging and toxic attitude makes me dislike her more and more. I don't see her as necessary for my life. She contributes nothing positive.
i live in a very similar mentality. i don't care about buying nice & expensive things even tho i could, i'd much rather help friends & family members in dire needs. i gave my brother 40k last yr to start a business, no interest rates bs, just pure out of love. even having kids is off the table, im too selfish about my time & freedom, no shame in that. all my friends with kids looks 3x older than me & are always complaining about life, that confirms i made the right choices. reaching financial security is my only true earthly desire & i completed that quest, life is great everyday.
I liked how you are self-conscious about your ego and why we all create that image to live by initially as youngsters...sharing that with the world mean something. You are in a fine path my friend. Enjoy!
“It’s mainly the people that push a square peg into a circular hole, and the fact is I’m a fucking triangle” I love the message here. This guy might be a wow nerd but he is pretty dam good motivator. Zack is actually really smart
I'm probably older then your mom. I was introduced to warcraft when I was about 50 years old by a friend who was around 60 at the time and had just started playing with her son. I fell in love with the game and the concept of 3d virtual worlds. We had so much fun running around in the world together. It felt like we were young girls again. I have two wonderful sons so I can identify with your mom and, based on your message here, I think she must feel very blessed to have you in her life. I watch your game videos and am enjoying your exuberant energy. I'm still enjoying my casual warcraft adventures too. Keep up the good work!
Ghetto Peasant Not really sure what you mean. This man has an extremely successful stream, makes a ton of money (which he does not care about), and is happy doing what he loves. I say he has already won. Quit being so negative.
i’ve always known of asmongolds existence but have started watching him consistently in the last couple months. wow man what a video. i’m actually glad that i have only just come across this video rather than 3 years ago when it was uploaded. i feel as though i’m going through this exact realisation in my life right now at 22 years old, realising that having “things” isn’t all that important. it’s about having good strong relationships and constantly growing as a person and doing things you love. really appreciate this heart to heart video asmon, speaks tons about your character.
I've always appreciated your honesty in videos. And being a comic collector it's a bit hypocritical but I also prefer a minimalist lifestyle, I think I just have a need to finish collecting books. It's the only thing I'm materialistic about, and try to see things from multiple perspectives. I'm glad your base happiness stat is maxed!
There's a reason why Asmon.. Zack endears himself to so many of us, because even though we know he is very well off and could go buy a supercar, buy a big house etc, he chooses not too. Far too often these streamers/RU-vidrs become big and suddenly they are making their vids/streaming from their clinical and professional setups, flexing on how well they are doing and I believe this alienates them from their "core" base. The fact that Asmon still streams from the same room he always has endears himself to people. It's not clinical and sanatised. The fact that he chooses to sit in the slightly beaten up chair, instead of a mega gaming chair that every other streamer uses, just makes me smile. Please Asmon, never change.
Thank you Asmon, you are a honest and gentle person, you will always be an example for me for what I will need to strive for. Thank you for everything.
"And be a functioning member of society" - I believe you already are, more so then most people. The entertainment of your streams and videos - or better yet, all of the content you provide for others to enjoy is certainly helping them cope with the negatives of life, help relax in the hectic, and often times harsh, world we live in. Consider for a moment how many people out there might be depressed or have problems, or are just feeling down, and your stream or video made feel better. Even slightly. I can assure you, that number of people you help by proxy (by the content you make) is much higher than any therapist can say for their achievement. And they are sure considered functioning members of the society. So don't doubt for a second that you are not. I'd say you are more vital then most. PS Full disclosure, I'm not saying Zack is a therapist, but I strongly believe that his work is therapeutic.
Right. I think that there have been studies that show a threshold where after you reach it, further income doesn’t equal a better or happier life. Being able to live comfortably I guess depending on the country is that threshold. It’s nice to be able to just buy things but I think that just having the money to begin with or having so much money that it doesn’t matter robs some sort of experience from people.
1000% this, my brother was obsessed with his appearance in middle school and high school and I realized how superficial and conceited it made him and his friends appear. I also saw how hard it was on my mom, he begged and guilted her into buying him the most expensive clothes and shoes and it was completely heartbreaking to watch. I would always try to make up for it by encouraging her to buy me the least expensive clothes and making sure she knew she was doing a good job just by making sure we had clean clothes to wear. Thank you for sharing, hopefully it will shed some light for other people.
I have seen Asmon time to time popup in youtube and twitch feeds and didn't think much of him. When I saw this video I just had to see what it was about. Not in a million years I would have thought that the man pours so wholesome life lessons.
Fuckin A. I needed this! Ive been so stressed out trying to get my business going again and it's consuming me. I realized today i jusy want to get a normal job and live a simple life. I don't need the stress of paying for trucks to be reapired and meeting customers and booking jobs. My priorites have been so backwards that i am not even able to appreciate the people in my life because I'm so focused on having the best landscaping business around. I actually fucking hate it. Time for me to simplify. Thanks for this video. It helped me to get refocused in so many ways
