Exactly. The majority of people don't care if there is clutter, furniture or bad wall paint in a house. That is irrelevant.

Exactly.....people usually have too much crap, too many family pics on the walls, smelly, dirty carpet....my pet peeve, furniture way to big for the room(s).

@@whisperingleaves4157 yes but these are professionals...even I know to fill the holes, sand, then paint. Then they could place the hardware where it should go. They were just not very good.

This style of decorating is very common for Portuguese families living in mostly Portuguese neighbourhoods in Toronto

@@ryankelly288 They probably come from the countryside. I like Canada and the IS, but these people have no clue of what an elegant interior is. The Portuguese architecture and interior design are far more remarkable than anything similar that can possibly exist in the new world.

I was thinking "What are you saying? Traditional Portuguese decor?" I'm Portuguese. My house has nothing similar to that decor or curtains. It's everything light wood, light colors, light curtains. I've never seen a red living room... and I have seen a lot of Portuguese houses

If the house is already on the market, then they can't show the house while they're doing the makeover.

It's probably because they have several episodes to shoot. They need to have a deadline and also It's likely a financial decision. Everyday you spend shooting, is costing money. Don't know why they feel the need to tell the viewers though, because like you said, it really doesn't do anything for us. It's not like they will end up failing and leave the house half finished anyway! 😅

They have other episodes to do. And they’re not “fake” deadlines.

If she hasn’t done that the owner would keep thinking it was all about her and the memories she has about the house.. it’s not anymore. All those changes need to be made if she wants to sell the house.... that’s the whole point of the show,. This is not to convince a couple that buyers would hate to witness a couple sleeping in a futon .

The owner is obviously not listening to the realtor to sell.

No, it is not. I can tell because two guys were handling it easily. That's a four man job if it's granite that thick.. It would be expensive. I think I also noticed the hole for the sink had not been cut yet. They don't cut that hole on site if it's marble or granite. Sometimes they have to add metal supports to cabinetry to properly support granite or marble. It's unbelievably heavy. Love from a old lady in Atlanta; that used to work for a granite counter top company, and before that a cabinet shop. 😎 Fancy tape measures for all of that. I was a "finisher" Also final inspector. Hard work. Good times..

Agreed. Once “scuffed” to make the paint adhere, there’s nothing you can do to restore them when the paint starts to fail, only repaint or remove the tile entirely, a job nearly always full of unforeseen consequences...

It's a nice cheap fix for the seller and a happy screw you to the buyer.

The point is to not play up ANY look.

They want to make the owners be aware that they cannot expect another Portuguese family to buy the house so they have to make it appealing to everybody else. Nothing wrong with that.

The young lady who was moving out brought it up herself 3 times, and the host brought it up a couple of times. Then the actual real estate agent brought it up too. It was always relevant, not meant to be alienating.

Rather than the reason the house hasn't sold being, the furniture choices or that there are many people living there, the take away from this episode is the house didn't sell because of their Portuguese style. This focus was a post production choice rather than an indication of the housing market

Portuguese are proud of their ethnicity. They feel they are particular. They feel they are special. It will make them feel good if you mention it in a nice way. It will make them feel you are trying to understand them (and yes, Portuguese love their 'azulejos' tiles and yes it's a Portuguese thing). If you don't mention it, they will bring it up.

They do have 3 children. Seems it's working just fine.

When looking for a house a couple of years ago I viewed a house that a elderly woman had lived in for 20+ years. It was painted Barbie pink (so hideous😂) in every room. I thought it was great she'd gone with what she loved, it was her home! But it's just paint - pretty easy to change if you don't like it.

The show was first aired a dozen years ago... so the decoration they went for was perfect back then
