Good to see something on your channel again Joe. Although I do watch all your other work,it just feels a little comforting having you back home. Even if briefly. Great fishing even if you did loose a few. Although your greatest ever catch has to be……your lovely wife. Many congratulations to you both.

Size 4 wide gape with a beaked point mate best way to fish barbless I’ve found 👍 cracking session mate I’ve fished Coking a lot, long lake only once caught 40plus fish between 2 of us in 48hrs so not for me no more oak or meadow for me now lol

I think fishing anything smaller than a 6 you will drop fish. We all used small hooks back in the day for bites but lost fish a 6 seemed like a size 2 20 years ago. Now we all use bigger hooks maybe get less bites but we land way more fish.

Great video Joe, really enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to meet you, top weekend ☀️🍻🐋! My view on the barbless issue, I personally think it’s more to do with the lead staying on rather than the hook pattern/size or rig. As a general rule fishing for larger carp every rig I cast out will drop the lead on the take, I firmly believe this massively reduces the chance of losing fish, especially with micro barbed but even with barbless. However fishing venues where you’re catching pasties and lots of them, you don’t want to be dropping 20 odd leads. So I guess it’s just one of those things, keeping leads on with barbless hooks is a recipe for losing a few. 👍🏼
@nuffinbutfishing
@nuffinbutfishing 2 года назад
Nice yo meet you too. And yeah dropping the lead would be good but I'd have lost over 30 leads! 🤣

Valid points but things to consider, many lakes in nature reserves in other countries ban "dropping leads" 🤔 okay your dealing with large volumes of water, but there was a reason people got lead poisoning from water pipes back in the days, lead does calcifie and shed into water without a doubt......what several kilos of lead does to a lake every year I think needs urgent attention and disscusion/research 🤔 heavy metals stay in the water never lost in evaporation.......could we kill a lake and all its residents in 20yrs????????? who knows Personal choice I know but I think "pebble" weights are the way forward if dropping leads, yes larger size for size but totally natural, safe and not out of place on the lakebed, especially if jot casting out and dropping from boats. Another quick thought.......fish like us produce electrical current, so don't you think an old carp could not pick up through its lateral line a lead object 😉 old carp are more intelligent than people think, Redmire scarecrow in lake ring any bells 😆🤣 carp circling bait dragging pectoral fins in the silt to detect line 🤔 🙄 more intelligent than some humans 🤣👍

Banging session mate, if I could advise anything when fishing bags with barbless hooks then dropping the lead would probably mean less lost fish. As you know the carp will use the lead to shake the hook and if the hook is barbless on such a small hook link then this becomes far easier for them to shed it......... It'll cost you a fortune in leads though with the amount of bites you were getting 🤣
@nuffinbutfishing
@nuffinbutfishing 2 года назад
Yeah I know but dropping the lead just wasn't an option with that many bites. Would have been about 35+ leads!

This should be a good watch on the other channels when they come out well done on the amount of fish you had you fished well and were just unlucky on the ones you lost which is a hazard with barbless hooks I personally use micro barbed where possible

I've had similar problems but found it better if you use a smaller lead or dump it so they don't have the weight to shed with on a short hooklink. The other option would be to move to let the inline lead run and try that.

Lead dropping wasn't really an option with that many bites on this session. Smaller leads or running may have helped though 👌🏻

3.5” hooklength, beak point in size 4, shrink tubing as a kicker and whipping knot to trap against the hook. Always going to lose some fish when it’s a barbless rule, not a fan personally 😂

Hey great video, out of interest what TC are your rods? Ive read a lot of comments regarding the loss of fish, with comments on the rigs, lead arrangement etc but no one ever seems to focus on the gear ie rods. I think on venues like that with smaller stock fish it pays to have soft rods in the region on 2.5 to 2.75 tc in 12ft. These are far mor forgiving and smoother action than the short stiff rods...which can cause you to bump fish off. Worth a thought as i say no one has mentioned it. In terms of hook pattern i would opt for a curved hook simply because on a tight line they naturally curve upwards....unlike a wide gape etc
@nuffinbutfishing
@nuffinbutfishing 2 года назад
Was also one of my thoughts. My scopes are 9ft 3.5tc. Planning on selling and getting 3.25 or 3lb scopes instead
@Sniffer1111
@Sniffer1111 2 года назад
@@nuffinbutfishing 3.5 in 9ft, I would definitely say they would be one of the main reasons for losing fish. Personally not a fan of the shorter rods, I think they introduce more issues than benefits but each to their own. I was actually on the bank fishing yesterday and a guy next to me lost a couple close in, couldnt get his head around it .....He was using 3.5TC rods and fishing for 20lbers......with a max cast of about 30 yards, he massively over gunned for the situation but was questioning his rigs not his rods. His set up looked nice tho which i think he was more bothered about rather than the functionality of it. Again, great video, was a great watch. 👍
@nuffinbutfishing
@nuffinbutfishing 2 года назад
@@Sniffer1111 until this session though, I've never had an issue with bunping off fish due to their strength even when fishing for smaller fish, so I still heavily attribute most of the loses to the barbless rule but maybe extenuated by the stiffer rods. The fact that everyone else on the lake lost multiple fish too with varying lengths and test curves suggests that it was also a barbless issue. Having said all that, I do tend to use my scopes on smaller venues so I may switch to softer scopes when I can
