I'm someone whos educated about my culture, ive been around it my whole life and I'd like to give my two cents and explain why its disrespectful to wear a headress when you are not native (although i suppose yours doesn't count as one now as it's more of a crown) Headdresses, also known as war bonnets, were worn primarily by chiefs, people who have earned their right to wear it, its basically an item thag says "you are to be respected, you are a leader" and thats something that has to be EARNED, it isnt a fashion accessory, its a sacred item meant for leaders-- Its fine to take inspiration, they look cool as hell-- just simply say you took inspiration and that it isnt a headdress, that simple!

I can't say I agree with everything you've said/done, and neither am I an indigenous person, but what I do like is the fact that you have altered your 'headdress' to make it your own, as well as to be less appropriating. In cases like this I don't think there is a right or wrong, I just think there is huge gray area. The problem is indigenous people are often treated like 2nd class citizens while elements of their cultures (as varied as they may be) are often used for entertainment and mockery... while the people themselves are forgotten about and ignored. If this were another world where indigenous people were regarded with more respect and reverence, you wouldn't be so heavily targeted for doing what you're doing. But that isn't the reality of it. I feel bad that this has happened to you, but to a degree, you make the choice to wear it... so you'll just have to continue dealing with the many opinions that go along with it.

So how is it then relevant to bring up that Lance appears to be speaking for all native Americans (which I don’t believe he was at all)? It seems really hypocritical to me.
