Anyone got any recommendations for good, free recording software? I've never made any type of audio files so I don't think I have any appropriate applications for it yet :|

Reaper is free. However it is a proper DAW so I guess it’s slightly complex unless you used a software like that before. Other than that you can easily record with OBS I believe

Audacity! The quality depends on your Audio Card and your mic. Computer's built in audio card is usually not suitable for playing the audio to your headphones while simultaneously recording you, but worth a try.
