If he is so confident about his music why don't he sing all those songs. Spb has given life to those songs. If singer is not good the song will loose it's flavour.

BGM వరకూ ఇళయరాజా గారి సంగీతం ఎప్పుడూ టాప్. కానీ బాలు, జానకి, చిత్ర గారు పాడకపోయి ఉంటే ఆయన పాటలు పాపులర్ అయ్యేవి కావు. ట్యూన్ గొప్పగా ఉండొచ్చు, కాని అది గొప్ప గాత్రంలో పడితేనే కదా దానికి గుర్తింపు. ఎంత costly పులస చేప అయినా దానిని కమ్మగా వండితేనే కదా రుచి. ఎంత గొప్ప ట్యూన్ అయినా దాన్ని గొప్పగా పాడితేనె కదా రుచి.

ఎదుటి వారి ప్రతిభను ఒప్పుకునె పెద్దమనసు ఉండాలి. ఇళయరాజా గొప్ప స్వరకర్త అనే విషయం లో ఎవరికీ సందేహం లేదు. కానీ గాయకుని ప్రతిభ లేకుండా తన కూర్చిన స్వరం వల నే పాట హిట్ అవుతుంది అనడం గాయకులను తక్కువ చేయడమే . అటువంటప్పుడు తన స్వరపరచిన పాటలను తానే పాడుకోవచ్చు గదా. వేరే గాయకులు ఎందుకు. ఇప్పుడైనా ఆయన హిట్ పాటలను ఆయనే తన స్వరం ప్రకారం పాడుకొని వినమనండి. అప్పుడు అర్థం అవుతుంది గాయకుని ప్రతిభ ఏమిటి అనేది. తానే అంతా, తనదే అంతా అనే అహంభావం ఎవరికి పనికి రాదు.

@@movielover4900 It is audacious. Madurai Mani Iyer also made Saa re gaa maa paa tunes to Western rhythm and he too got Maestro title. Pandit Ravishankar too got that title. They were humble. Mr Swaminathan who was doing re recording job at Vijaya Studios once told while explaining technical glitches in rerecording that if the singer was versatile like P Susheela (note versatile singer like.....) any glitch gets easily. So we should not undermine one wing while praising other.

As much as I am in awe of his genius, his ability to compose a symphony entirely in his head, knowing each note for each instrument, writing it all down for each of the musicians, I am also saddened at his arrogance. One of the greatest musicians of all time, how does he not realise the singers are music too? In many interviews he behaves like music comes at his beck and call. Music is a gift God has gifted him with. He should acknowledge the music in others. The closest I've heard him praise someone is pandit M Balamuralikrishna.

Well said. In 1980 in a programme in Singapore he praised TMS so much for his expression in singing and said tamil nadu will never have another singer like TMS and it is unfortunate that none of his singers can sing like him. At the same time without SPB his songs would not reached the masses

So called Ilayaraja haters and people with the best character that you can loosely comment on a self made genius, think deeply. Don’t bring your shallow thinking and prejudices here. He is a composer who owns the complete composition of what all instruments, how they should be played, singers how they should sing, the expressions everything. He takes complete responsibility of the outcomes. He is a perfectionist and expects everyone in his team including the singers to be perfectionists. Now coming to the appreciation part, he has seen all kinds of ppl who think low of him due to his birth etc., and dedicated his life to music alone, he experimented with many but chose the best alone to be with him in all his compositions. That is a clear indication of his appreciation for their work. He doesn’t want to indulge in appreciation or getting appreciated. He is more practical and straightforward. Moreover how many of you can sustain friendships in such a creative field where creative differences can easily break relationships. Just see their relationship till the last song SPB sung during COVID. Their friendship is deep with excellent appreciation for each other and has seen the ups and downs of life. So stop commenting about them indulging in mudslinging. Enjoy their creations develop love and not hatred. If anyone spills venom he is not a fan of either
What does it cost one to appreciate genuine talents ? SPB referred to Raja sirs genius millions of times on different platforms...Whats wrong in acknowledging and appreciating talents ? It reflects respect u have to other person A song is collection of extra ordinary talents ( music director, musicians, singers) and should be credited Central govt bestowed Padma award and is appointed as Rajya Sabha MP to Raja sir, is this not an appreciation n acknowledgement of his talent, which he accepted. Ilayaraja is a good music director. But he is not a good singer. If SP Balu garu is not there, his songs are zero. He must know that. Music director is great in his place, but Singer is always great to highlight the song with his beautiful voice.
Singer will add beauty to your composition with their Melodious Voice...you are good but you must accept that without qualitative singing your Music never reached
He clearly didn’t waste time with all the unnecessary drama 🙌. They didn’t have the privilege to overthink or celebrate, they stuck to their jobs, had strict deadlines due to technical constraints and the number of artists involved. People say he’s arrogant, but that’s just his style of work ethic and that’s how he delivered. Made our lives worth living and beautiful in the end ❤ 🙏

Correct Explanation Sir.... But, 95% of your hits were sung by SPB, S.Janaki, K.S.Chithra, K.J.Yesudas, Mano. in those hits SPB had Major share. and, you are not having proper hits with new singers. Great Musicians like K.V.Mahadevan, M.S.Vishwanathanan, O.P.Nair, R.D.Burman, and latest A.R.Rahman celebrated SPB songs. Ilayaraja is one of the best. not only the best. there are so many great composers in India. SPB had given soul to every song which was sung by him.
A. R. RAHMAN understood the value of the Singers contributions to the song. He gives total freedom to the Singers and makes them comfortable during singing. That is why many Singers got awards in his songs. Unnikrishnan, Chinmayee, Shankar Mahadevan, Naresh Iyer, Minmini, Swarnalatha. Also legends like SPB, K. S. CHITRA, S. JANAKI etc.

Sir dayachesi Ayananu choodataankki vellakkandi just enjoy his music sure u will be in heaven but if u wanted to see him it’s a mess not so great human being . the love and effection on him definitely may decrease since his attitude will upset you… I too die hard fan of him and I grown up listening his songs in Chennai and still in Chennai.. not even one directors of old age never had good relationships with him…songs enough to enjoy

IR is a very good music director, no doubt. But, the voices of Sri SPB and Smt Janaki manifested the musician's musical essence. Had not IR got artists like Janaki & SPB (who were experts in delivering the emotions/ಭಾವ) his songs wouldn't have lasted this long. Our respects to all - playback singers, instrumentalists and of course the music director.
ఆయన సాధారణంగా ఇంకొకరిని ఎప్పుడూ మెచ్చుకోలేదు. అంతా తన గొప్ప అని నేరుగానే చెబుతారు. ఒక పాట ప్రజాదరణ పొందాలంటే అందులోని అందరి కృషి ఉంటుంది. ఏ ఒక్కరి ప్రయత్నం లోపించిన, ప్రజాదరణలో కొరత ఉంటుంది. పాటకు స్వరం కూర్చిన తర్వాత దానికి భావంలో ప్రాణం రావాలంటే గాయకుడే ముఖ్యం. అది ఆయన ఒప్పుకొన్న, ఒప్పుకోక పోయిన పరమ సత్యం. అందుకే బాలు గారి పాటలలో ఎవరు సంగీత దర్శకుడైనా జీవం ఉంటుంది.

పాట ఒకసారి బయిటకు వచ్చింది అంటే! దానిమీద పూర్తి హక్కులు సంగీత దర్శకుడుకి వస్తాయి. ఇది సమంజసం కాదు. పాట మొదట పుట్టేది కవి హృదయంలో అక్షరం అంటే చావు లేనిది అని అర్థం. ఆ అక్షరం సోధించి కూర్చిన కవికే ఆ పాట యొక్క హక్కులను ఇవ్వాలి.
Not really because the tune is composed first in most movies and lyricist is asked to fill in later. Also, lyrics are usually not that special in most raja songs (even worse in rahman songs). Overall gaa it feels like telugu lyricists could never really reach the poetic acumen of old bolly lyricists. Most of their lyrics are pretty simple fluff stuff expressed in clever tongue twisters. Its very rare to see a telugu song which actually reads like a story or poem with a structure of thought.
@@ddawg3230 so if you feel lyrics is very simple then musician why need lyricists? Then they can write their own if the lyrics are simple. If someone remake the song they can use only lyrics not the music.
@@vramakrishna2157 By that logic you can ask why composer needs musicians, when he can sit and play each instrument himself...lol Btw, Raja has also written lyrics for songs. He wont have the time to sit and write lyrics for all songs and directors have their preference for lyrics. No problem if they share credit with lyricist...at least maybe then they will care about the quality of lyrics lol Sometimes lyrics make the song popular....but for some composers its mainly the tune, so they get more credit. Whats you point about song remakes? They clearly show that people want to listen to the same tune and therefore the tune makes the song.
@@ddawg3230 there is so many songs with different tuns if you aware of it. Their different levels of musicians at the same time are different levels of lyricists too. In my opinion the song was born by a lyricist . If you have your own opinion it's not a problem for me. Lol

It is the creation of music director to give good tune and he should know to choose appropriate singer to support the tune. Finally it is the talent of music director only. If it is the credit of singer then all the songs sung by him shall be good only but it never happened
Without SPB support you can't imagine your growth... SPB given life to many songs.. Early stages SPB recomnded ilayaraja to many producers and directors..
Actually SPB went high by singing IR music than others. Similarly Chitrajee also mentioned she got many songs from other directors after she sung good songs in IR music. Notably Chitrajee sung many songs in Telugu after Geethanjali movie. Of course IR got credit as well but his contribution is more than SPB due to the role. That is Music director.
@ashokalways no, spb was already an established singer before IR. IR and his combination was unbeatable, but SPB sang many gems for others like Msv, Shankar - Ganesh. Spb would have been great even without IR. IR would have been great without SPB. They became the greatest combo because they were already great people. That is no excuse for IR's arrogance. You can be a fan of someone and also recognise that they have human faults
IR is a great composer for sure but a great Egoist too.. he always used great singers for his songs but Can’t bring himself to appreciate those great singers, esp. like SPB, KJY or Janaki Amma or Chitra madam. Without these 4 singers and their voices & their expressions, his songs wouldn’t be as popular, period.. otherwise, why would he always used only these 4 singers and esp. SPB and Janaki?? These two sang lion share of IR songs? IR lacks humility. At least AR Rahan used voices of many other less talented singers and gave them opportunities. IR never did anything like that.. As SPB sir always said, if an artist, however great he or she maybe, without sharing the credit and knowing own limitations, they can never become truly great…that’s why, SpB, Mohd Rafi, Yesudas, because of their music and humility, are not just great artists but great human beings 🙏🙏🙏 whereas, Ilayaraja will only remain only a great but arrogant composer, that’s all..
You are right ......he didn't spoke anything good about Janakiamma in any of his interviews......that's why Janakiamma regrets to talk about him too....
