I updated yesterday... Pretty nice amps. Very easy to get a fantastic sound out of these. It's one of the main reason why I prefer in-house amps models (also true on the HX).
I don't want to tell Boss/Roland how to run their business, but I really hope they start doing firmware updates more regularly to their products. I'd love to see them update the RV-500 and on the Roland side the SH-4D.
@@mattpearce79 I just think the world has changed and people expect digital hardware to be at least somewhat open ended. Boss/Roland make very good products but I really think this holds them back and I’m reluctant to buy any more of their products.
Boss is all about stability; their products are mature. If a lack of frequent updates is a deal-breaker, buy a less stable, less mature product from another company. There are plenty of them constantly fixing mistakes and vying for acceptance, kowtowing to every user complaint and destabilizing their product by making their feature set a mile wide and an inch deep. Many of us prefer the care that goes into every firmware update on a product that's exceptionally good at what it does.
@@hclyrics I've had very few issues with updates to multiple products from multiple companies that have greatly expanded on and addressed issues with their original FW releases. It's a new world where there is constant feedback between users and manufacturers that can really be beneficial to both.
@@trickfall8752 Fair enough. I'm just saying Boss isn't one of those companies. I prefer them because they really are powerhouses. They're solid, mature, no-nonsense products that already do everything they need to do, nearly perfectly. In a world where everyone is trying to "innovate," Boss has stood by their high-quality products and haven't succumbed to the pressure to add an endless backlog of shiny features. I bought the GT-1000CORE because it's exactly what I need, and if they never updated it again I'd be perfectly happy.
One would think they could port over the VG-99 code to do this. Even the VG-88 was doing this 25 years ago with virtually no artifacting or latency. I will say though it was not poly, as it does each string individually.
The Pedal Bend does a better job than the Pitch Shifter, still warbles tho. Poly in 2024 is a must. So many of their rivals do it flawlessly (line 6 poly capo and digitech drop etc)
@@Docksidestudio1 Yeah its litterally one of the only things I use the Helix for anymore. I do use it for overdrive preamps, I have been using overdrive almost like an EQ pedal for years, seems Nuno does very similar with the Rat pedal. I honestly switched from OD3 to Rat after seeing what Nuno does. But the rest of the blocks are dedicated to pitch shifting since every Floyd Rose I have is in Eb. Although I think I am about to change that and get the Virtual Jeff (whammy bar), that thing has the best and cleanest pitch shifting I have ever heard. Even at tuned down to C you cant tell its digital. It sounds just a hair thinner than a real guitar would at the top end, but no perceivable latency or artifacting.
Hope this bodes well for the future. I hope they’ll bring these to the SY-1000 and really start supporting all their gear with regular firmware updates. As I always say, I like their MDP amp models, and so I’m happy to see the new amps are all MDP.
Boss engineers said that they will not add new FX to GT series because it will eat into the sales of their dedicated FX analog units (space echo, etc) so you should eliminate this expectation. this is a fact now
@@thepedalreview bro I used space echo as an EXAMPLE of a boss product that exists in real life. I know it’s in gt. i just dont know the names of OTHER boss products that exist as standalone FX pedals and are NOT in the GT. I’m surprised they added the distortion but you should not expect any extra reverb/delay to be added. I read somewhere in a forum so dont quote me on this
I always used the X-OD for all my high gains without amp modeling in my 2 katana amps on clean channel, will download 4.0 versions today and try using these new amp models, they do sound great😎
I have a hunch the SD-1 and DS-1 models are more based on the Waza custom modes than the original pedals. The SD-1 model doesn’t cut so much bass and the DS-1 isn’t so scooped. But idk. And they’ll never say 😅
If i had to guess, this update is beta testing new features for a new "katana" line pedal in the works. Would be great to see them jump into the capture game as well, although even their older stuff sounds more natural to me than Line 6. Has more dynamics which is what I respond to.
@@lorenmorgan1931 thats so true! I've always had the same feeeling. Boss tones sound more organics than line 6 (I had both) unfortunately, boss havent put effort on getting updates not just regarding amps but effects too. I hope this can be a new start for boss in terms of regular updates and stufffs. Boss has a great opportunity
@@Hele10Ag Yeah, they have a tendency to drop the ball on things. I have had a few of the older ones, and all the VG8-99 line (Roland but its same devs as Boss) and they just seem to really run something for a few years and abandon it. Maybe they are going to reintroduce this pedal? Or make a a 2000or Katana model? Katana mode would be awesome if it had the Katana models in it. The models there like their 100w, if it were in a JCM800 shell, no one would ever know the difference!
I am not sure if you got a high and low cut in the global settings but these already sound good right of the gate. They are very dynamic and flattering to all ranges and even respond well to chords.
I just came from another channel that showcased their new X amps (metal/chugga chugga chugga) and thought they sounded really good. They suggested also playing with the cabs and mics if the stock settings weren't your jam.
Didn’t see one in the website so at least not yet but part of this update seems to be for new outputs added for the katanas gen 3 so they’ll probably be one for that on the gx100
I wish Boss would release an update for the DD-500. Such a powerhouse delay, but the user community suggested some great improvements and bug fixes over the years, all to deaf ears. Oh well. Thankfully it is a brilliant delay nonetheless.
(ANYONE KNOW IF YOU CAN UPDATE FROM AN IPAD ?) It sounds great !!! I still can't update mine...lol It just doesn't work. Honestly, it might be because I have an old MacBook from 2012, but it works fine. I'm like 2 updates behind, this will make it 3, but now I think all of the updates will be worth it. Thanks for the video dude ! Nice playing !!!!! 😁👍
The Titan to me sounded like there was a clean blend! You said for the Titan " I'm guessing its and I think I read in the notes" then you didn't say anything after, just a screen shot A tight high gain......which uses MDP. What's MDP?
As a GX-100 user, I'm pleading with you BOSS.. Please bring over some of these new amps to the GX-100. I love this unit, but desperately need a couple better high gain amps, especially these X-series ones with MDP. The X-High Gain amp is feeling pretty dated.
Got a question for you...I have my 1000 CORE set up with a BOSS ES8 where loops 1-3 can be pre plus 2 FX loops. Anyway I've recently noticed a couple of things (oh it's going into a head, and 4CM): 1) the SEND may have no bars but the RETURN does, and vice versa, and, 2) I've had big volume drops...eg, I might have a delay set up for loop 3 in the 2nd FX loop on the CORE, and when I select it the volume drops. For the life of me I can't figure how to get that volume up to match all the other levels. Any advice would be really useful...thanks.
Am I the only one having difficulty updating the unit? I run through the procedure (doesn't load and copy file into the drive on the desktop - I am on Mac OSX Sonoma) and when I disconnect the USB cable and hit 'write' the display says the file doesn't exist? I must be missing a step
I have tried again - maybe my 5th effort. I have no idea what I did differently but it is now working through the update sequence. I think I am good now.
