LinknLink have just released a line of smart home products that includes an Alexa enabled presence sensor that only costs 16 quid!! See my discount below... Oh and it also works with Home Assistant ;)
This video is sponsored by LinknLink, all opinions are my own.
Presence sensors vs motion sensors is an easy one, motion sensors are waiting for motion, this presence sensor uses radar to check you are still there, so even if you're still the lights don't go out.
Thanks to Modbus support this presence sensor works with Home Assistant, but don't ask me how to do it! 😂. Google Home Support for this presence sensor is coming soon, LinknLink are working with Google to get this working now!

Can you program this device as a garage door remote?

The garage door remote likely uses rolling codes for security, so the answer is possibly, but probably not. Impossible to know without trying

Hey Paul. Do you know what is the lowest RF frequency of the device? I bought the Broadlink and couldn’t use it because the fan I have ise a 304.25 RF frequency. Do you know if the LinknLink hub goes down to that range?

A top I've seen elsewhere is to set your routines up (if your system supports it), so that when no motion has been detected for 5 minutes, the lights fade out over another minute or so - it gives you a more subtle trigger to shift your position without getting plunged into darkness because you're too stealthy
@RNMSC
@RNMSC 8 месяцев назад
One addition to this if it's an option is to set up the 'turn on' trigger to determine whether the lights are fading off, and fade them back up to reduce the jarring sensation of the lights having faded half way and you suddenly realize you need to move a bit. In HA, you might set a helper as a boolean that gets set if the lights are fading, and then the turn on condition has an option that checks to see if that helper is true or false. The associated automations would clear the fading state as part of their actions. Note that I'm not sure if this is something that can be done in Alexa or Google Home.

I have multiple lights in my office, and I have had them all switch off and need to move. I fixed it by setting 2 routines, first one turns off one light after 2 mins, the second one everything else after 4 mins. And the presence detected turns everything on. So if the one light goes off, I move, it comes back on.

Great video as always with even more humor it seemed. Although I won't use an Amazon device in my home until I can block their access to my property, this looks like it might be worth a try. In all honesty though, Aqara gets to be the primary component provider for me. Lighting will probably be GoVee. Non-internet-based automation and security systems are what I need since internet is sketchy during extreme weather around 8-10 times per year. Happy Saturday to you too.

After reading some articles about how many young women named Alexa were starting to hate/change their names, because of Amazon ruining it, and lots of young men being jerks, issuing sexually harassing "commands" to them, etc., I change my wake word to "computer", like the Star Trek shows that inspired Alexa in the first place. For the most part, it works really well, and I can now say Alexa with impunity. The only problem I've really noticed is when I'm watching actual Star Trek, and they are talking to their ship. Thankfully, mine does not know how to engage defensive systems, or ready to warp core, so it's usually pretty benign, and funny. 😂

16 pounds! That is incredible. I've got the Aqara FP2 and it's a costly little beast. It does do zones, so I can check occupancy of particular chairs in the room rather than just occupancy in general, but at 16 pounds, I could see getting a few of these. Aside: I'm somewhat embarrassed that I actually understood every word in the word soup the "Actual Home Assistant User" said. That does not, however, mean that I'd have no problem doing all that just to get my little radar box working. IR Blaster with temp and humidity sensor: With both of those sensors, this is great for controlling those air conditioner units that have IR remotes. Then you add in radar presence sensing and this is a phenomenal device in a very small package. I do like the fact that they also have a separate temp/humidity sensor as it allows you to place a few of these around areas where the temperature and humidity are good to know. (The bathroom, the enclosed porch, etc.) "Just use the Link n Link app to set it up..." Agreed, it's a bit less annoying to not have to use the app once it's set up, but I do wish they'd done something so it was just discoverable by Google Home or something. It is good that these devices can be plugged in. The only problem with using "any USB port" is that you do have to go out and get a wall wart to power them. They're cheap, but it's still one more thing to do. 433 MHz (on the blaster): This is also great. I have some Sonoff 433 MHz controlled devices (fan/light controls mostly) and I could use this as another way to set those without the remote or Home Assistant dashboard. "I can't wait to see more from this company." Agreed. Thanks again for a great review of some really compelling products. I'll be checking those links out.

i previously bought the switchbot temperature meters you reviewed in the past and love them, they also work with alexa and you can ask for the temperature with those. So don't really need the linknlink's for temperature, but I am going to get these for the motion sensors as I previously Bought the Shelly motion you reviewed, but it turned out you couldnt do anything smart with the motion sensor so couldnt use it for anything. My only concern is using them for any automation will probably fail if you don't move much (such as watching tv on the sofa), or sleeping. it would be nice to be able to detect if no one's home and turn on a security camera and turn off any lights left on etc, but we'll see. Edit: as expected these motion sensors don't detect motion when you're not moving much such as sitting on the sofa watching tv, or sleeping in bed, so it's not great for enabling an alarm system etc. You do have the option to set routine time periods. So you can perform an alexa action when no motion for 30 minutes etc. But even at 30 minutes it fires as no motion if we're just watching tv or sleeping. I think the only real option is the Aqara Presence Sensor FP2 but recent reviews state that is extremely buggy and unreliable, unfortunately.

@paulhibbert
@paulhibbert 8 месяцев назад
You could add a condition to the Alexa routine to only run between certain hours, but that's as clever as it gets for now. If you were using the linknlink ecosystem then that has more conditions for routines than Alexa does. If you can brave the modbus thing it's all pretty open and then obviously home assistant could then use conditions

I would be interested in seeing how their Home Assistant integration works to warrant adding the logo to the listings/website. It can't seriously be via modbus, it is far too technical and you would need to know exactly how they store and use their data within the modbus 'registers'; which could ONLY be achieved by them publishing it somewhere.

@zephsmith3499 Месяц назад
@@wasper17 Actually, it often bounces off walls and objects pretty well. Apparently, the link budget is pretty generous in some cases (that is, only a very tiny portion of the transmitted IR needs to hit some receivers in order to control them). Also penetrates many plastics; I had 8 IR controlled rope lights, and to control each separately I not only had to use a paper roll between the IR transmitter and the particular controller, I wound up having to paint all the controllers with an opaque black, because the IR signal was entering one case from the front (other end of the tube), and diffusing through two plastic box wall into the adjacent controllers.

Shame the triggering is crippled. If only that worked, I would buy the all singing "hub" version. Great that you reveal the "warts and all" details in your reviews. Will try to keep an eye out for those missing triggers being recognised. Hopefully you will give an updated review at some stage.

Pau, not sure if you got 'a good one' and I got the one's made at end of shift on Friday before a holiday or what, but the two emotion sensors that I bought from Amazon were trash. Horribly laggy, tons of false alarms, and not reading my presence when I'm literally 1 foot from them. Back to Amazon they go.

Hi Paul, I've bought one of the ehub units and a number of the motion ones. In my testing, I have found that the motion/radar ones detects motion when there is no way it could have. Since you have had these for awhile, have you also seen this?

Ok, not sure I get it. You were laughing about tcp but actually their page says it supports local tcp connection. You know, cloud based connection is nice as long as… no, it’s not. If company decides to charge you for it or just closes, you can put device in a bin. So local connection for reliable device is a must. Any chance to know whether all these devices (especially emotional) can work fully local? Yes, I am using home assistant and I want to integrate it with HA (if at all) and ideally not via the app.

I'm legit surprised these use modbus. I use modbus with industrial controllers. As far as I know we're the only people who still use modbus. I use it in my personal projects because of familiarity and how easy it getting data back and forth between stuff (because I'm familiar with it) but to see it in an automation environment is just weird 🤣

I was gonna buy a few of these radar detectors but the link says they’re currently unavailable. Shame. I hope they’ve sold out from your link… but it’s unlikely in such a short time. Great reviews as always. If the temp / humidity worked as a trigger, I’d totally buy the more expensive one but it’s not currently worth it for me otherwise.
