Remember that on the days you "only" gave 5% because that is all you had - you still actually gave 100%. You did the best you could do at that time with the internal and external resources available - that is 100% ❤
I changed and stopped wasting my time by starting my day without the internet, but journaling, writing down my goals for the day on paper. By doing this I don’t waste time getting distracted by other things on the web and I am getting things done that are planned for that day! I hope that helps anyone else trying to make goals and changes.
SO GREAT! I also remind myself that I get to be human. It’s okay to not have everything perfect, and we might even be more approachable and likable if we are a little more “real”. Save “perfect” for brain surgery and quality control for airplanes! 😉
This is how I improved my health years ago. I used to get so upset if I couldn't get my two hour workout in my day. After I changed my mind to "even if it's 20 minutes, it's still helping". I lost so much weight just doing what I had time for. As long as I worked on my body once a day (nomatter the time spent), I found success.
😊 Exactly! And give yourself a pat on the back after giving that 5%. The goal is not to always feel the need push beyond our limits to but to be honest about where we are, how much we have to give and make the decision to fully give that and do what we can to honor ourselves/our commitments.
I don't wanna get up from bed and report to work every night, but I have this habit to count 123 and just get up and not procastrinate, and think that feelings/emotions don't pay bills. And dang! I haven't missed any shift anymore and bills are paid since I started doing it.
Omg. I count to 10😂 It does work. It's as if you are giving your brain a chance to redirect and say yes to what needs doing and get on with it. It also recognizes the need to not always be up for the task. We are not mechanical machines. Be kind and honest with yourselves lovely people.
EXCELLENT video! I have a physically demanding job. I’m 62 and not as energetic as I used to be. Some days I get home just exhausted. But, I made a deal with myself some months ago to get at least one thing a day done. Sometimes it’s a very small task, sometimes I tackle a large task. Lying in bed at night I review what I accomplished for the day and give myself appreciation and praise. It has made all the difference.
Oh my goodness, that's awesome! You're an example of "showing up" in whatever capacity you're able. And love that you celebrate your accomplishments each day! Thank you so much!
God bless you thank you for this. I’m ready to change my life. I feel like I have wasted the past few years and I am almost 65 and going to retire. I have a whole garage full of stuff and I mean full of stuff. Thank you for your inspiration, I just have to show up instead of setting down. Lol.
A word about "off days." I was able to declutter, do some painting, etc and it really made a difference. A BIG thing I noticed; if things got neglected or messy, it now only takes a day or less to get back in order. I used to just give up, not anymore @
My mind has been a minefield for years. The devil has really done a number on my mindset up to this point and I didn't help things. I have failed to keep appointments for myself, show up for myself, for years. I'm going to do it today, just today, and stop worrying how I'm going to be consistent for the whole year because THAT is overwhelming.
I think so often we fail because we get overwhelmed with all the things we have to do and how long it's going to take. I also find that taking things one day at a time is so much more doable.
I have so much to do every day...and I get overwhelmed, so sit and do nothing. Literally, I sit out the stupidest smallest things because I get stuck. Thank you so much for this video! I *can* show up. I know I can always do that. This is really helpful!
I love this!!! Yeah, it's easy to get super overwhelmed and decide to bury our heads in the sand- I have been SO guilty. But no more- we are giving ourselves grace and doing it a little bit at a time! 💜
I created a daily reminder that says, "What can you do to further your fitness goals today?" Like you said, progress is the goal. I'll bet your students love you as a University professor. Congrats on your dream job!
What an inspiration. I didn’t watch much of the video before I paused it and decided to commit 2hrs to do some decluttering in my closet. I stopped after those 2hrs and finished watching this video. Time spent on making progress in my closet that wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t starting watching this video. I gave it a thumbs up and subscribed.
I started doing this with exercise recently just by doing a mini home workout if I couldnt do a 1 hr walk. I never thought of applying it to every area of my life. Its so simple but blows my mind.
Yessss!! Showing Up is key. I need to remember this more often!!! Example: in the past I used to wait to feel like doing exercise before starting or heading to the gym, which resulted in skipping exercising for months! (I am quite active as I walk tons, as I live in an European city and have a dog). Now I have learnt that when I don't feel like, I just show up. Better to exercise half-a**ed that not doing it at all! Thank you Kristi
This is so true! Many of us fall into the trap of only doing things when we feel like it. But then we realize we don’t get things done. I definitely had to break that.
This video is great advice for people with ADHDl as well because the negative defeating thoughts you mention (perfectionism, overwhelm, inability to do things in stages, etc.) are a natural part of the ADHD mindset.
One thing I’ve noticed is that if there’s a big amount of things in front of me, I’ll avoid it completely. So I started setting a timer for 30 min, 1 hour, etc and work on it for that long and then allow myself to rest if I want and often I’ll get so much done that I’m motivated to keep going. And when I’m ready for a break I usually got a lot done and feel proud I’m even if it was only the 5% progress etc ❤
I stumbled upon your channel after me and my husband had an argument and my daughter was crying as we drove in the car. In order to change the atmosphere in the car I didn’t want to put on sad music so I found your video and just hit play. Wow the decluttering and then the not feeling like you need to be perfect in every area really hit home. It’s so true as women we feel like we have to be perfect in everything and end up perfecting nothing but like you said, it’s the small daily changes that are the successes not this big overhaul on our life. But I believe the small leads to the big.
Recovering perfectionist here! 🙋🏽♀️I’m giving several 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 in the comments & subscribed ☑️ because this is some of the BEST advice, inspiration, action-steps I’ve heard n a long time. I’ve been on the struggle bus with decluttering, purging, etc. but recently made a shift, pivot & mindset adjustment and now I find your channel!🥰 ✨💛👑
This is good advice. I am 68 years old and I’m retired due to spinal issues. I retired around 45 because I started having severe surgeries on my spine. I am now recovering from my 6 th back surgery. I push through the pain to have a life I could easily play the victim and not do anything and feel sorry for myself, I don’t I push myself to get up have a routine do the things I need to do , rest when I need to rest and I’m good. I also am a minimalist so I have very few things in my house so it’s not difficult to clean and a very small capsule wardrobe. I don’t need a lot of clothes. I don’t usually don’t go too many places ,and then when I get dressed I always have something beautiful and simple to wear. If I need something I’ll buy it for the occasion, it’s a better way to live your life you’re not so stressed out…😊
Wow, you are such an encouragement!!! Glad to hear that you have found what works for you and keeps your life feeling at peace. That is SO important. Thanks for sharing!!! 💛
It's behavioral psychology. New habits ALWAYS start off with tiny steps, low effort, low friction (like prepare exercise clothes the evening before). Later you can do it more and become better. Look up the "tiny habits method" for more.
I’ve been showing up for myself. I’ve been doing small habits and completing a 30 min workout. I tell myself it doesn’t have to be hard.. as long as I get in some movement and it makes it more manageable ❤
I feel like crying. SOOO resonating. Praise God. I get so overwhelmed trying to do what God's called me to do. I am having hella challenge learning video tech. It's maddening. I don't get it!!!! HOW DO I DO IT??? I guess the truth is if I want to learn it I'm gonna have to put in the blood, sweat and tears and learn it. Your editing is great. Do you do tutoring in that, or are you open to a quick conversation? Blessings to you, so grateful you came up in my feed. When I feel like throwing in the towel videos like this remind me that indeed God is using it for His purposes!! Peace everyone 💟🙏
Don't throw in the towel. It is definitely a learning curve but really is so rewarding to see your skills progress. Would you be open to hiring an editor?
This is excellent. I am struggling with this area and poured out to my husband about not being able to do xyz with the house and the kids and work and fitness etc. I never give the 5%! But I’m going to show up with my 5% and give it and be consistent with what I can give each day. My husband has also tried to explain this to me. This video really made it click. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
aww, thank you so much!!! Sometimes we need to hear it from a different voice or in a different way for it to click. My husband will often tell me when I have an epiphany "I literally just told you that!" 😂 I am so excited to hear about how amazing you feel after consistently giving what you can everyday. 💛
Progress not perfection is my mantra. As long as I do my routine daily, doesn’t matter if it’s perfect, just as long as I attempt it and make the effort. Life changing.
This was just what I needed today! I have been making some real progress, but hadn’t figured out how to maintain the changes. Showing up consistently, at least a little bit every day is more than good enough to keep me on track.
“Do not let Perfect be the enemy of Good.” Wow! That is profound! I have been letting that very thing stop me from progress for years. I’m putting this on repeat.
Yes, ma'am! I have found that giving yourself permission to be okay with "good enough" is probably one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself!
This video is right on time. I need to show up for myself badly. I wasn't raised to put me first and it's still very hard to do 40 years later. So I'm trying to make that my mantra: show up and put myself first every day!
It's like they say on flights "in case of an emergency, put the mask on yourself first, then help your child/neighbor". It's not about being "selfish" but realizing that you are not good to anybody if your needs aren't met. 💛
This content is so valuable. Creating that “identity” of showing up for your goals consistently rather than striving for the impossible perfection is key! Thank you! I’m on this journey.
Hello. I manage my time wisely. If I have to study I place the timer on my phone to one hour. After that I go on to something else. I never go beyond an hour. If I can't do something the next day then I do it the following day. I use my calendar on my phone to write what I have done. Even if it's on the title. When I look back I have a few things done that week. This is how I manage time.
I'm decluterring my house room by room, my mind also and had a big impact on my Family, finance, change my job and Life....start little by little. Don't give hope !❤
Loved your video thank you for posting! How I am working to show up for myself every is by consciously recognizing when negative thoughts enter my mind, to acknowledge them, understand why they may be there, then consciously replacing with positive ones. Not easy to do at all. But when you realize and accept that you cannot change your environment physically, you see the need to go inward and so my mental environment has been my focus and I’m not perfect or exactly where I want to be, but I have seen tangible proof that I am succeeding and that makes me happy and keeps me going
In 8mins and 43secs, you gave the prescription for SUCCESSFUL LIFE. Small steps create QUANTUM LEAPS. Best video ever...Keep Em' Coming. #ShowUp #DailyDisciplines #DontLetPerfectionBeTheEnemyOfGood #SmallStepsCreateQuantumLeaps
I’ve been trying to get to every comment but yours just came through! Thank you so much!!! Yes, the small steps make such a HUGE difference!!! Takes a lot of pressure off when all we have to do is show up ❤️❤️❤️
I never though about it that way before. But all my evolution came from showing up to start the things. Once you start you build up patience to continue more then after a while you do more than you could ever imagine , whitout even thinking twice.
OMG ! Love this video I’ve been declutter since 2020 with Covid but still see clutter. Feel like I haven’t done much very Frustrated. I’m listen to your advice thank you 😊
Absolutely! You just put words to what I changed in my life in June of 2023. Due to some health issues, I was no longer going to be able to do some physical things. I knew this change had to start in my mind. So I claim for myself to be kind to me, to be happy and proud of whatever I accomplish each day. No more need for Attitude adjustments. I allowed me to take better care of me just by setting boundaries and, as you put it, showing up for myself. I feel much more positive, happy, and content. Your video is inspiring. I'm glad you've claimed your greatness. Well done!💜
Thank you for sharing It's the first time I come across your video (and it's NOT the RU-vid algorithm) I needed it definitely, coz today I "feel" like I am not doing enough, and God knows I needed to hear it Thank you so much Appreciate 😊 Hello from Cameroon 🇨🇲
That was very encouraging. I just started doing that and didn’t know it. My goal is the do a little everyday. I’ll look up and notice progress but the end goal isn’t there so I have no mountain staring me down making me feel overwhelmed.
Omg I love your concept, self growth is hard but sooo worth it. I love when you said give that 5%, trying to learn something is always better than nothing! Love it ❤️
I came across this video at the right time. I want a complete overhaul of my life and it’s so overwhelming. I believe I need to always finish what I start when I start them, and I’m coming around to the idea that this isn’t possible with everything. I have to start building somewhere.
I love this. I’m a perfectionist as well so it’s so easy for me to feel like I’m failing when I am not sticking to the schedule I’ve created for myself. Watching this made me realize, the schedule I created was not realistic for me. I’m going to show up and make progress instead of trying to be perfect and feeling defeated when I can’t 🫶🏾 thanks big sis!😊
Love this, I have had a lot of medical surgeries this last year and have had to adopt this mindset, I tell myself just do something. I really enjoy listening to you❤
i love this. "i am not perfect." it seems like what you are and all of us need to be practicing is being imperfect. practicing doing when not at 100%, which is how we feel most of the time. ty!
Kristi, this is sound advice, very encouraging. Thank you so much. I'm really enjoying your channel. (So glad the algorithm suggested you!) God bless you.🌻🙏
Thank you, thank you! I just subscribed!! ❤ I appreciate your practicality! Small incremental steps are soooo important for those of us who are getting ot of a rut!!❤
Thank you for this encouraging message. I struggle with perfection so this is so right on time! I pledge to show up for myself to conquer my clutter, lose weight, and focus on my business.
Love everything you're sharing here! Being willing to just show up and do something imperfectly is baked in to all of the art classes I teach. You've got a happy new subscriber!
Fab! As a fellow perfectionist I often have times of complete inaction. But this is SO helpful! Incl the giving 5% when that's all you have. Also about showing up across all ypur areas, which I'd previously thought overwhelming. Great role model ❤
I'm so happy it was helpful! It is so easy to get into a state of inaction when feeling like we can't do a thing at full capacity. Implementing that mindset in every area was so freeing for me!
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ You just gave me the message I needed hear today! You were divinely sent & thank you. I too am a perfectionist & if I’m lost in my process, then I just don’t touch it, which is keeping my progress stalled. Again…THANK YOU!
I have been looking for a channel like this! So happy I found your channel! You are speaking my life rn. Thank you for this!Thank you for the motivation! New subscriber 🎉😊💜
I “stumbled” across this video…it was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. I see some of the topics of your previous videos ( that I plan to watch) so I hit the subscribe button. Thank you for making this video.🦋
I found your channel while searching for decluttering inspiration. Thank you for this master class ! It was enlightening and motivating! Blessings to you
I love your energy. I have the attitude that life is a journey and not a destination. We tend to focus so much on the results that we don't enjoy the process. I try to be in the moment whether I am exercising, cleaning and decluttering or pursuing growth in some other way.
Thanks for the great tips. Also it’s very typical if the 1st consonant of your name is K or T that you would be detail oriented which can lead to perfectionism. Everyone has something to work on and make right for themselves. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks for balancing out your life. It’s helpful and inspiring. 🙏🏽✔️
Ahh, very interesting- I haven't heard that before. I wonder why that is? Yes, we all do have something to work on. Thanks for watching and sharing your heart!
