I'd photograph the inside of the drive when you eventually get the top off, see what shape the oil is in. As a mechanic in a past life and working in aviation pre retiring; I'd nearly go to Ladbrooks and place a bet the top didnt come off. Most lads would be ashamed to turn out a renovation and not replace the screws; and who ever is supervisor has no shame. They desereve naming and shaming. Nothing to say the drive will work. Should have provided you with a test cert. If they are specialists they should have test beds and function tested it. Espicially for £1500.
Hi Loki It still grates on me how I let them get away with such a bad job. I'm not sure where my mind was at that time, but clearly not on the ball. The initial request was to inspect the drive to see if it was worth restoring. The finished work was worse than I said in the video as it included the transome plate that came back without any work so had to buy a new one also the arm that goes over the drive in two pieces was bent which meant the lifting via the crank handle wasn't possible this was also sorted by us. There is no oil in the leg after completion, so yes, I will definitely be taking pictures and expect I will upload them to RU-vid. As for name and shame, all I will say is that they are in Chertsey, which should tell you the name 😏
