💥🔥 What cover did you like best? Would you pay that much for a cover design? Previously, I hired 5 designers for 1 cover - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7__-AhQE4WY.html
Hey Dale. Great video! Helpful to see another group of Fiverr designers vetted, especially at the low-cost end. My only quibble is you have worked with most or all of these people before so, you may be getting a better result than an unknown customer, which you acknowledged towards the end. I would like to see a video of hiring people you've never worked with before using an unknown surname. Happy New Year!
The open book w the star and glowing is absolutely played out. I can think of 3 writing books off the top of my head that are sitting on my shelf right now w that image. But WOW Lauria makes is pop! That's definitely the best "glowing open book" cover I've seen.
I’ve been watching your videos now for a few weeks. I really like the advice. Some of it is still over my head as I’m really new to this. I can’t wait to put some of the info into practice
Glad to have you aboard. You should join my free Facebook Group. There's a community of more than 4,000 strong there to support you - facebook.com/groups/selfpublishingbooks
I just found your channel Dale and I am so jazzed!! I have dreamed of turning my writing into ebooks, audiobooks but didn't know how. I also didn't know it was so lucrative. If I had the money I would get the AIA but I'll have to make some money and then reinvest in my training. Thank you so much for these grrrreat videos!!
That is awesome, Melodee! Thanks for taking the time to comment. It's always great to hear from authors who have been dreaming of getting published. I look forward to seeing you around. Let us know when your books come out!
I did like your last one best, but most were useable. I've used dhanajaya several times for fiction and they were great. Dale, I'd like to see you do this same thing for fiction covers because the needs are so different.
Yeah, I think a lot of folks think Fiverr is "just" some $5 platform with questionable talent. But, it's much more than that. I plan to try out some new designers this year to see what else I can get on the inexpensive side of things. Thanks for watching, Pablo!
Danielle's #1 with Print Tok right there too. I loved the way Print Tok used the keyboard, glasses etc. Felt it would connect to the writer as well as the time. What's your thoughts on audio books? Liking the business model
I think of Danielle's templates I like B and E most. I like the use of the clock face in B, and the hour glass in E. Shapes on book covers help them really pop if done right.
Hi Dale. Just to help you out. The yellow cover is most distinguishable with all how to books. But the one I liked best was the Red cover by Dcamorlinga. And as a one inch picture it does pop off the page. However, records indicate that people most often check out books from the library with blue covers. I hope this was helpful.
First time ever watching your channel. I really liked this video, its the first time I have seen someone reviewing work from Fiverr Artist's - thats such a great idea - we should have more reviews like this. It gives us a chance to see the kind of work they do, pricing and standard of work, great video. Book cover Designs.....I actually liked the first one, I liked all the imagery added, the cover told a story within it self. Oh yes, and I just subscribed!!
Welcome aboard! Yes, I've received a lot of feedback on various videos like this I've done showcasing Fiverr services and freelancers. As a general rule, people find them helpful. Fiverr has always been an affordable way to get things done since its inception, but I think the issue has always been vetting freelancers without spending a fortune. Thanks for your subscription and for taking the time to comment! I'm happy you're here.
Great video Dale I was curious about the covers done in Fiverr. I have been getting them from Urban Writers but they increased their price. Got to give Fiverr a shot. I prefer the red cover, I think that one pops out more. From all the covers, Daniel is the one I like the most. Have a great 2021!
Thanks, Jordan! Yeah, Fiverr gets mixed reviews in the community. It's easy to write them off after you get a bum cover, but I'm really happy I revisited Fiverr and dug in to really see what they have to offer. Same to you!
I really love these fiverr gig comparison videos! They are fantastic, a great way to support talented designers for a fair price. Thank you for all you do!
Totally agree! They serve a dual purpose: it helps the self-publishing community find useful gigs without wading through MILLIONS of listings, and as you said, it supports the freelancers as well. Win-win! Thanks for the kind words!
@@theponderingprofessor I'm so glad you found it helpful! Stay tuned for more videos like this one. It's always fun for me to produce. I have a video in post production right now about hiring blog writers. That one was a blast.
I can't recall who did which cover without writing it all down. I think the last one does fall in with your brand the best. But for myself I appreciated the blue cover with the laptop and glasses the most. It just felt right to me. But yes that last one seems to fit in with other covers you have.
That's great, Julia. Doesn't it feel nice to find someone you can work with long term? I love it when that happens and an added bonus is to be able to refer them to others.
Go for it! Book covers don't have to be expensive for a professional to design them. I'll be doing a whole new series of videos about book covers REAL soon. Stay tuned to the channel, because I'll be handpicking subscribers to get free cover designs done for them to be featured in a future video.
Yes, I think showing the comparison really adds value. Fiverr is affordable. It's a great resource to the community, but wading through all of the gigs available can be abysmal. This is a great way to show some good designers and what they bring to the table.
Fantastic! I actually am using Fivver, thanks to your recommendation, for editing services. For my short-read do they do holographic covers; paperback or hardcover? Thanks!!
You probably can get the graphic design covered, but printing it is going to be difficult. Most print-on-demand distributors don't fulfill special covers like that. I wish they would! Thanks so much for being a channel member and for the kind words and support.
Hi Dale, thanks so much for the video! Very helpful. Can you tell me how you find specific designers in fiverr? I've tried searching their names and hunting a bit, but can't work it out 🤷♀
I have a vetted list of Fiverr sellers at DaleLinks.com/List. Pick through that list. But, when I'm searching for a good cover designer, I look at a number of factors: - Level: Whether a level 1, level 2, top seller or Fiverr Pro (cream of the crop), I like to know someone has experience on the platform - Reviews: Scour the reviews of each gig. Find out why anyone would leave a negative review and what they say. And, pay attention to when the review was posted - whether recent or a long time ago. - Number of reviews: Though not every customer leaves a review, we still have a good idea of how many customers they've worked with. - Orders in queue - I don't like seeing that number too high, because it makes me wonder if they'll deliver a quality gig in a timely fashion. If they have a LOT of orders in their queue, I'll direct message them to find out if they can squeeze me in or if I should go elsewhere. I DM the sellers quite a bit before ordering (despite not showing it in the videos) and I recommend you do the same. It doesn't hurt to build a relationship with a seller. Use the filter when searching based on language, cost and level. There are other filters, but I rarely use them. I hope that helps!
The last one with the sketches is literally how any professional cover design goes. That being said, that's why I'd never use Fiverr to get gigs. Just a cheap conveyor.
Your loss. There are many legit and talented freelancers on Fiverr. It's no longer the platform where everything is $5...it's the platform with a proven sales funnel where a lot of creators have found great success. There's no need to diminish their success because it's possibly different from yours.
@@DaleLRoberts Still pretty much is the $5 platform for design, illustrations, editing and so on. I wouldn't say a loss if I'm getting income without having to keep super low prices in hopes of being noticed among hundreds of designers.
I really like the red cover she did. The other one is nice but it looks like the million other self publishing book out there. It almost looks a little tacky at this stage to do designs like that. There's a sort of throw back feel to another decade with the red book. It looks really nice and I think it would stand out in a search result.
Between the stardust and the red? Stardust by far. The red is um... loud. Now that I've seen them all now, that stardust one is my favorite. The second stardust. The prographic maroon one is my #2 - minus the glitter. Bright red, no thanks. Maroon? That worked for me. I've used one of the designers before. First cover he made was horrid. But everyone said how good he is, so I went with it. After a few weeks, I only had a few sales. So I had someone else make a cover for it. Boom. That book has made me a gob of money. I gave the guy another shot later, same reason, everyone talked him up like he was the best designer on Earth. Same result. That cover never saw the light of day. I had someone else do it again.
Wow! You can get that definitely on Fiverr, but I’ve yet to test out some logo designers. Should I give it a shot? Be the guinea pig? Haha no, seriously, if there’s enough demand, I’ll make a video about it.
Do I need t2 different covers: one for the print version & another for the E-copy? Thank you for this channel. My non-fiction memoir about surviving Locked-In Syndrome comes out in early 2022.
Well, this is certainly timely. I'm getting ready to get a cover made. Thanks! It would have been cool to see them all on one screen to be able to compare them at the same time. Do you have a video on what we need to expect to have to provide a cover designer? (Or perhaps a future video idea. :-) ) Cheers!
I like to be timely! That's useful feedback, thanks. Each designer has different requirements. Since they are set by the designers themselves, it would be difficult to answer your question. The basics are title, subtitle, author name, and a general idea what you have in mind. Communication is key and fortunately, Fiverr has a robust messaging system so you can communicate effectively with your designer.
After I made my comment yesterday, I grabbed screenshots of each design an put them in one document. Cool to see them all side-by-side. Thanks for letting me know the basics and process. I plan on getting started on the cover this week. Do you generally get multiple designs made and select the one you like best or do you just have one person do it for you based on their portfolio and past experience?
I'm really loving these Fiverr videos. You're making me reconsider everything I've decided lol but it's all good. These covers are great, but my favorite design is Pro_Ebookcovers. Great video Dale, thanks for it!👍 Hopeing to see some writing sprints soon. Especially, since I talk about them in next video lol 🙏
Right? I've seen a lot of people write Fiverr off over the years. You have to do a little wading, but sometimes it pays off HUGE. I'm doing 2-hour writing sprints every Saturday of this month! 12:15PM EST right here on RU-vid!
Hi! I would like your input on this idea for covers. Doing a series of 10 short, related stories. Want to go around Fiverr looking for someone who can make the cover and the variants with the number eg "Story of Life 1", "Story of Life 2", "Story of Life 3" and so on. It'd be the same cover and everything, all that would change would be the number and maybe the subtitle. It'd be 10 of those and then 10 with the cover in Spanish. Same idea, just different language. How best to approach this? Do you even recommend to recycle the same cover essentially 20 times? It's my first series and it's for 18+ so I won't go into details on the content itself. Thanks!
The idea of having the covers look similar is solid. I would change more than just the title/subtitle. Perhaps use color or even different images plugged into the same cover concept. You know, make it look like it took some thought and effort? Just my two cents... All the best on your endeavor. I hope you hit it out of the park!
Dale, for low content books, is it in any way frowned upon to use the same cover for multiple books but having easy, medium, and hard difficulty changed in the title? From what I understand with a basic maze book or sudoku you really don't need to copyright. Would it be bad when you make your kdp listing to say it's copyrighted anyway? Or would you recommend actually copyrighting all 3 books? Thank you so much if you have time to respond.
You could. If you want to be certain, contact the platform where you're publishing. Sadly, it's not my call on what is or is not accepted. And, you don't need to say something has a copyright, though it never hurts to have a copyright page to be on the safe side. I discuss copyright here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GVnrnc_ASNI.html
Question: How do you find a professional editor on Fiverr? I’ve tried one and I was not happy with the end result. It ended up having a ton of errors left in it.
@@JasmineMGorton When looking for an editor, don’t forget to test them out first. Avoid sending your entire manuscript. Simply submit a sample page or chapter.
Possibly, or you could convert it yourself. Just communicate with your designer. Since the eBook only needs the front cover portion of the print cover, you can crop and resize it if you have a graphics program and a little skill.
Hello Dale, I have been watching your videos to launch my Addiction FREE Lifestyle (TM) because I find the most detailed information on "how-to," and have all your books. I have a crazyish question... Where did you get the book display with the two books on it? I can only find the single display and would like to showcase my books when I launch my channel. I promise I am not trying to copy you... my subject is way different than your, but I enjoy being able to read your book titles as they come out! Blessings, Christine
@@DaleLRoberts In the background you have your books displayed in clear shelving and I could not find those shelves. I did finally find them on Amazon though. Sorry I was too confusing. I didn't even know how to explain what I meant very well.
Oh, glad you figured it out. Not sure I have anything in clear casing in my background. All I have are my framed canvas prints, and sideways bookshelves mounted on the wall. And, the book stand holding the one title was from the Dollar Tree.
Nice! Love me some Danielle. She's been on hiatus on Fiverr lately, so I hope she's doing okay. I love how she sketches out concepts and shoots them to me. It makes it easier for both of us. By the way, thanks so much for watching and commenting on my videos lately, Twinkle Overlord. I notice repeat viewers and I appreciate you for that. Thanks so much!
@@DaleLRoberts no thank you for making it somewhat easy. I have just completed the collation of my poems and moving to cover design. Thought of doing it myself since I am an artist and quite picky but then again came across your videos and for the amounts you had to spend some of them turned out great and will take the load off me so looking into most the profiles you shared and hoping it’s a wonderful experience
Thanks, Dale for the great video. Quick question I had after watching. I'm new to using Fiverr designers for book covers. If you hire multiple designers to see whose work you like, and then you pick one, what happens if the one you pick didn't include the extras someone else did? Are most designers amenable to an arrangement where you pay additional for more elements (eg., ACX, etc.) after the initial gig? If so, it seems like it might be a good strategy to find the designer you like first, then pay more to get the elements you need. Thanks!
I totally recommend finding the designer you like and hiring them for what you need. The purpose of this video is to help you do that. I wanted to show multiple designers at different price points. The main problem with Fiverr is vetting providers. This video helps with that. People can watch and see which designer they like and know they are vetted before they hire them.
Dale, what do you mean "not everyone has $800 to spare? Really? lol Just kidding...thank you for the video. Your Channel is always entertaining and educational!
You know what I mean! Most of the time, I don't have $800 to spare! Fiverr helped with this one. Thanks for the kind and encouraging words. Always appreciated!
ah the graphic cover scene. I make all my own covers cuz I got a graphic design background but let me tell ya. There is so little money in that bloated market and soooo much quality for cheap!
Hi Dale! I'm a big fan and this video and others are very helpful. I wanted to point out something that you and others may find useful- I tried out 5 Fiverr book cover designers in the romance genre for 15 dollars and under and I asked for something unusual - that was my mistake - the results were unacceptable - really, really bad, worse than the typical self-published book with a cover obviously made by the author. I needed an unusual format with an image I had chosen and it required someone choosing a fitting type font and actually designing the cover, using principles learned when you study design. They cold not do that at all, the results showed they had no knowledge of any kind of design rules at all. Thinking about that, I believe now that what they do usually is, they have a few templates in a certain genre - romance for example - and they just insert your title and that's it. That explains why they can charge prices down to 5 dollars. If that's all you need- an it will look professional if the template is all you need - then it's worth 5 dollars, but the minute you ask them to do any designing, they can't - that's why you have to go much higher, to get a real designer. I should have been able to figure that out on my own, actually, before I started, but you live, you learn. Anyway just wanted to put that out there in case someone sees these cheap prices and thinks they can get a real designer with them - you get a template, that's it. Just so you know. Anyway Dale thanks again for your great work, I rely a lot on it! thanks - Eric
Thanks for the love and insights. Not ALL inexpensive designers are cookie cutters. For instance, in this video, you'll see that Danielle drafted sketches of potential cover designs. No template. So, it's going to take some trial and error and thorough communication with the designer to get what you want. Sadly, I think Danielle is on-hiatus again on Fiverr, so there goes that option. haha
You can't. I wish we could. Unless you're talking about the KDP Select Program. Your ebook must be enrolled to use their discount features in the free promotion and the countdown deal.
I find that recommendations are invaluable when working with Fiverr. If you just go on Fiverr and start searching, it could take hours to find a designer and then you take a gamble. If you have a recommendation, 80% of the work is done.
@Self-Publishing with Dale I paid for original artwork for my English version children’s book outside of Fiverr. I want to publish my book in Spanish as well; and want to have the Spanish text placed in my book file for KDP ebook and paperback. Dales, Do I need to be considered with Fiverr sellers refurbishing my art for resale? --Concerned
I just found your channel again just starting to watch this video now, but straight away I thought could you do the same concept but with newbies on the fiver scene with no ratings, they have to start somewhere, forgive me if you have already done this already,
I have a lot of videos on Fiverr on my channel where I choose providers from all levels. I like where your head (and heart) is at on this. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@DaleLRoberts I will go searching I am watching your channel videos right now so may even come across them soon, thanks for all the good content you’re putting out there. It’s very much appreciated, hopefully it will work for merch on amazon sales as well as kdp books
My personal top 3: 1.dcamorlinga 2.pro_graphics360 (the second one, red cover) 3.dhananjayaeffec This video stayed in my "watch later" list for some time, maybe I am late. Did you already decide which one to use?
How do these folks make money? 5 dollars for a design? You'd need to consistently do at least 2 per hour solidly for 40 hours a week to earn a basic wage. And that's not even counting expenses like stock imagery.
Usually, it's one or both of of the following: - They live in a country with a cheaper cost of living - They have design shortcuts...templates or something like that where it doesn't take them long to put a cover together
Hey everyone, Dale is the BEST for any type of "How-To" for launching your books! Make sure to Subscribe, Follow and learn from what he knows so well!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely! What's wrong with that? I know my audience. There are self-publishers with budgets ranging from $0 to $$$$$, so YES, ABSOLUTELY I'm going to talk about a $5 book cover.
