That first cake is a $75 cake. I would be pissed to pay that much for a simple design with something they could have ordered online for cheap since it's fondant covered styrofoam.

I really like the refined quality of the reindeer cake. The last cake is cute but I certainly wouldn’t want something with Santa’s butt and a drunk reindeer on my table for Christmas.

@@samantham8696 She gave them free reign to do whatever they wanted, she never said do "classic" or "comedy", so I think the other cake went full humor and really went all out with the "story" part -- In other words, it's *definitely* a cake you would talk about. The reindeer cake was all white and would just look like it should sit on a shelf, it's not engaging at all. They could've at LEAST made it edible so you could talk about who gets to split up eating what piece, you know?

So many people underprice their work. As my Gen Z baby sister likes to say, “get that coin, sis!”

As a home cake decorator for 40+ years, I find it amazing at how many people think a cake like these (especially the first two) should cost no more than $45, and they should be able to call one day and expect it to be done by the next day! They don't take into account the cost of ingredients, the time needed to plan the cake design and flavors, shop for the ingredients (including gas and time for going to the store), cost of equipment, utilities, prep work, baking the cakes, making the frosting, decorating the cakes, the caker's labor and skill, and the clean up time, both before and after making the cake. And that's not even counting the time it took to learn the baking skills, as in knowing which flavors pair well with others, developing our own recipes, etc., as well as learning how to pipe all kinds of flowers, which tips to use for which flowers, leaves, borders, etc. So I see it sort of how an MD charges not only for his knowledge and skill, but also for the years of medical school it took to learn them. And then they want it by the next day, and all for only $45, because "it's only cake"! Nope, it ain't happening because, if "it's only cake", then make your own.

@@joycegallowayparker9652 I’ve barely started baking this past year (corona quarantine activity I took up) and it has been shockingly eye-opening how long cake decorating takes. I do some insanely basic decorations and it takes me hours with crumb coat and taking the time to smooth out the frosting and any other details. Can’t imagine how long the super detailed cakes take.

Oh no! Not at all, it would have been too heavy. The cost was in the sculpting. They spend a lot of time on the reindeer. The details are unbelievable. It was beautiful! That was my favorite feature.

I thought the deer looked beautiful and like extremely difficult to make out of fondant so first I was very impressed until I saw it wasn't edible, so dissapointing for that prize.

I don't think it fit in any of the categories she described either, big fail in my opinion.

To be fair she said she told them 10 portions, which means she ordered a small cake (something she herself seems to have forgotten), and the topper looks like it was hand shaped out of something edible like fondant or modelling chocolate, but they definitely needed to do a lot more on the decoration side to make up for the cost!

@@Aren-ai to me the 1st cakes topper doesn't look carved at all. It seems more likely that they made or purchased a mold of one of those miniature animal heads you hang on the wall from IKEA.

Don't be fooled. Most cake businesses can't get away with a cheap cake for $300 like the first 2. That has to be a big city thing.

Same it seemed like the most difficult, like a sculpture but then I saw the styrofoam. I think it takes some artistic talent to create that deer even with styrofoam but for that prize it should be edible, that could have been cool and creative and definitely worth the money then.

I wonder how much of the actual stag was Styrofoam too. Like was the entire stag's head shaped already and they just added the fondant over, or was it a Styrofoam cone and they'd sculpted from there with fondant/chocolate. Easy money if it was the former!

I agree! The ornaments on the second cake were beautiful, but it didn’t look finished; no transition from stark white plain cake, like the ornaments and cake were brought in from two different bakers and just stuck together! IDK...some little filler that ties it all together....SOMEthing! 😜

I get the reasoning. People don't usually spent 30$ on cake per person for an informal family gathering, they probably expected it to be for a fancy, elegant dinner party or something like that, and the first two fit better in that kind of setting. Though the ornament one was also way too understated for me. They where not even brightly colored or richly decorated.

I think this too - I feel like if you tell a bakery they can do whatever, they’re going to err on the side of making a round cake with decorations. 3D cakes are a lot of work, so if the client doesn’t specifically ask for one maybe they just try to make it the simplest on themselves since they have other orders etc? I would ask specifically for 3D cakes as well.

What I think happened with the 1st cake is that they had made a cake for another client who doesnt show up. The bakery owner thought, I have a solution, I will sell it to the next client.

It’s too small of a cake to ever reach $300. Yes she gave them small area to work with, but that’s when they either say they can’t do it, or do something out of the box. In the second it's the ingredients, the first... probably the name of the bakery, though it must be a very fancy name - chocolate cake and buttercream with a styrofoam topper? I would feel cheated.

Well i'm middle eastern and not familiar with Christmas that much. But it seems they chose white to kinda remind you of snow. Also I liked the two white ones so much more. The last one was amazing in details but over all I found the other two more of my taste in design. They were both simple though so chick.

Hafez Naghdali I felt like the first two were so boring and underwhelming. I get what you were saying but for $300 you would expect something so much more than just a plain white cake with toppers. It was just disappointing for the amount of money she paid for them. The 3rd one at least put the money to use & actually showed a theme.

It's safe in my freezer so I can take it out on Chrsitmas eve! I couldn't part with it lol!
