haha thanks so much!!! Ya the clear coat is the most important step for sure. Thankfully my past experience helped with that, but it's not that hard to do! Glad you like :D

​@@skribbleskillsI know this is 2 years ago, but what grade of sander grit would you recommend? I have skis with a rough textured surface that I want to place a wrap on and will need to sand it down before applying primer and wrap. Also what spray primer would you suggest?

Thanks so much! And ya I took it out a bunch this winter! (you can even see one of those times in this video :P), but it felt GREAT! zero difference in performance. Then again I'm not a professional boarder or anything, maybe I just don't notice the veeeery subtle differences, but I didn't really use anything that different than what any legit snowboard company would use to refinish a board, it doesn't affect the ride-ability at all (unless you were to paint the bottom that actually is in contact with the snow).

I would say I’d you are gonna do it maybe marine paint would be better. Stuff that’s designed to hold up in water for long periods of time. But if you but a good enough clear on it you should be okay. Imron Ms600 is pretty good marine paint. Or whatever the equivalent is if you can find an axalta dealer near you

Hey! Yep just high quality acyclic paint! If that was ALL I did it definitely would not stay on for very long... but what will keep is there forever is the clear coat over it. :)

So glad you like!! Well, I didn't necessarily try to do this project quickly. When I was doing this I let the whole process take about a week or so and edited it all together... but you can do all of this in a single day if you wanted to.

No problem! We use a projector in our little home theatre and we have Apple TV hooked up to it…so I just used the screen share/mirror feature on the iPad to get the image on the big screen and lined it up with the physical board as best I could, then transferred the main shape of the design over. 👍🏾

That sounds cool… but how do you do that? Is there a place you can custom print a design?

Thanks so much! That’s the BenQ-H2050A… an awesome projector we’ve been using as a home theatre screen. We love it! 😄

That’s just a trick you can use to build up the paint a little faster and keep the paint even and smooth. It’s a trick we used to use painting cars, especially when it’s a slightly colder environment you’re spraying in. You don’t want too much heat in one place, so keep the heat gun moving to just warm up the surface you’re spraying on. 👍🏾. You don’t HAVE to do it… but it helps avoid potential drips in the paint and uneven-ness in general. Hope that helps 😁

Haha sure! If you want the exact thing I used it was actually two colours I blended together with a slight gradient. 1. Design Master - 676 "Basil" and 2. Uber Matte 554 "Sprout". I bought them both at Micheals in Canada. Hope that helps!

Held up great!! Still looks exactly the same. I’ll probably repaint it with a new design and make a sequel to this video at some point.

Hahaa no problem! Well...I depends! If you just need to scuff the surface for the new paint to stick you don't need anything too aggressive, just a 250-500 grit would be more than enough. But if you want to sand away actual scratches in the body you could go up to like... 120 or something... 80 at the max. But if you start with a heavy sandpaper make sure you sand out the roughness of that process with a more and more fine paper until it's smooth... so if you needed to use 80 for example..... go 80 then 120 then 250 then 500 ...then paint it! (beneficial knowledge from working with cars :P )

I really appreciate the info. the skis i have are actually for a ski bike. they have this gritty textured surface at the top I'm guessing to protect the existing graphic that's ok, but not my taste which is why i want to wrap the top with a custom graphic. But i got to get rid of that surface grit with some sanding then do a primer clear coat so the wrap will stick.
