I mentioned in the comments on another video that we painted our bathroom ceiling black and I love it. Every time I tell one of my neighbors, they want to see it and now already two have painted theirs! I also have a 75 inch flat screen and it almost fills the wall it is against. I decided to paint the wall behind it black and it too looks great. When it is not on, you can't even tell a flat screen is in front. It all just looks like one big black wall. I wish I had done that years ago. Have fun with your renovations!

We did a matte black ceiling in our low ceiling basement (1960s bungalow)… and it was awesome! It hid all the weird 1960 paper ceiling tile dings and stains, and looked great. The old fake wood panel walls actually looked really cool with the black ceiling.

Question: is low luster exterior paint a choice for indoor paint when you want washability but not glossy?

No - the chemicals uses for exterior would reek and make the interior stink - and possibly toxic to breathe in

I did a test of Benjamin Moore interior semi gloss in clover green. Aura vs Ben and for durability both were equal 💚 the Ben just didn't cover as well, it needed 3 coats and Aura 2 ,yeah! Benjamin moore makes the best trim paint 🧡 the best coverage and easiest to apply and feels hard when dried.

We actually have a similar basement ceiling like yours and decide to change the colors last month. We have black LVP flooring n went with Wrought Iron ceiling and trims. Chantily Lace on the walls. Family has loved the look.

great idea to NOT drywall the basement ceiling, gives you extra height, and access to all the mechanical electrical hvac in case of repairs etc. wish we didn't drywall our basement ceiling when we renoed...question, did you spray over all the electrical wires , boxes, i see you painted the hvac that looks great, hardly noticed it ! ....question, did you install any new lighting in the ceiling, and how will you incorporate it into the black ?? congrats on your new home !!

Wow that’s awesome! What black did you use? I’m thinking of doing my basement myself. My friend who is a painter lives in another state, when he came to visit told me just to use a brush instead of a sprayer. Probably so I don’t make a mess. I was thinking of doing a white ceiling & leaving the wood support beams wood colored. Not sure about walls that are brick. They are whiteish, probably a off white just freshen it up and seal cracks for spiders! Yes I have a lot of spiders 🕷 at the front door!

I’ve by the way been painting Smokey blacks all over the main house! Bedroom feature wall & trim, dining hutch, den wall & book shelf, did a almost navy black on the kitchen cabinets, night club by Behr. Getting ready to tackle a coffee table & a tv hutch.

As a claustrophobic the ceiling is not a choice I would make, maybe the soft light neutral. since it is a basement wouldn't black add to the darkness of the room?

You use low lustre? I am redoing my door and garage doors and I thought that gloss or semi gloss were what I needed to use. I chose Soot at least for the garage

Hi there! Love your content! I have a question for you. I paint furniture and I love using paint that can stand alone without a sealer, such as a poly topcoat. I personally like Dunn Edwards Gemini by Evo and their Axalta collection. Do you know of or recommend any other paint brands that are super durable?

BM has a product called "Advance" which levels nicely and is truly durable. The downfall to this product is 16 hours between coats but otherwise it's wonderful 😀

Yeah, I don’t see the point of spending extra money and it looks like even an expert thinks they are an unnecessary luxury… unless you are worried about houseguests snickering at unsightly swatches on your wall? Maybe it’s only necessary for very dark colors?

Don't need a Mighty board when the entire wall is primed white. Also, in a basement, not much foot traffic. Its one big Mighty Board, as he mentioned.

Black ceilings huh. I am not mentally there yet. Besides I need to spot the spiders. I am doing Convivial and Extra White both by Sherwin Williams in my basement. I am totally loving the bright bright combination.

James, Im in Calgary, Alberta.I have so many spiders around my house. They are every where! Not so much inside but crawling outside. You asked us to tell you. Why?. Do you have a cure? Would love for you to share it🎉

I just hired a local company to come and spray for bugs, spiders, etc. It will cost $140 for them to spray inside and outside. We are going to check around our foundation and around doors for cracks and fill them first. I think this is something everyone probably should do every year as maintenance on their house. There are probably bug sprays or bug bombs you can buy and apply yourself .
