It's a little-known legend, but everyone turns to corn at midnight. I am corn. You are corn. That is why Ohioans never leave. If you visit for more than two weeks, you are transformed into corn-person.
Most people feel like that. Not Californians and things like that cause all the RU-vid dudes are from there. The only RU-vid people I’ve seen here are telling people why my city is a good place to move. Don’t ruin housing prices even more. They’re helping turn this city into an ugly blob of concrete and horribly designed housing.
To answer your question regarding the black patches on the road, that’s to seal off the cracks that form in the road surface so that water can’t seep in and erode the ground underneath the asphalt and create those massive suspension-breaking potholes. Edit: also yes, 3:47 that’s a 2008 Dodge Challenger. Might be an R/T or and SRT8.
I was gonna say that it's also possible that doing that would prevent frost heaves from forming, where any moisture would seep into the cracks and then freezes and forcing the pavement upward.
It’s weird but it’s honestly also refreshing to finally see an Ohio related video that ISN’T the dead horse “Only in Ohio” memes or someone just randomly bashing the state for whatever reason
Just found your channel. I was born and raised in northeast Ohio for 25 years until I moved to Wichita, KS this year. It’s so great to see talented folks coming from my home turf. Keep up the good work, you’re making some killer videos.
Sealing the black top cracks . Moisture once under the blacktop is very destructive...summer heat can create steam and blow it apart and winter freezes the same. I have actually seen 20 ft sections of concrete interstate in Ohio raise 2 ft over night from steam.
I am so glad I’m not the only one who thought the McThai sign was the funniest thing. I’ve been laughing at it ever since I used to take the bus home from Columbus State. That was an instant recognition I never expected to have.
I loved the 57/83 picture, as I grew up in that general area and have been down 301 numerous times and all throughout the area! I think I may have even been through that exact spot! Judging by some of your comments about 422, or using the phrase "the west side," I guess it's safe to assume we grew up in roughly the same part of Ohio. A few of the pictures made me think of Rt 6 between Vermilion and Huron, particularly the one with that restaurant just off the road. It reminded me a lot of the Angry Bull Steakhouse or Marconi's. That part you thought was 422 didn't look like any of the parts of 422 I had been on. I've been on the road from, essentially, Cleveland all the way out to the corner of 422 and St. Rt. 700. On a few occasions I went a little further east before turning off on a different road, so I'm not as familiar with the route once you get about 5 miles east of that 422/700 intersection. That was my old stomping grounds in college :-)
Hey look! Someone isn't bashing on Ohio for once! What a refreshing change, I was born in Cincinnati, raised in Cincinnati, and I'll die in Cincinnati.
@@weatherboxstudios its more about sealing cracks than it is patching it. Rapidly changing moisture levels under a road is what really drives pot hole formation. basically the usable life span of the road gets extended at little cost by doing that.
There’s a highway not near but 60 something miles away that was patched like that across the whole length for longer than I can remember. And that thing was a good sized highway. Wide and long. Patched up all the way. And they just replaced it. It’s amazing.
I moved to Ohio 1 year ago (Cbus) and I decided to "get to know" the state I would visit every single county courthouse in the state. I hit all of them within 6 months (only driving on Saturdays due to my schedule). I learned a lot about my new home state (and only got one speeding ticket!)
The Folded Over sign appears to be a high water sign, which they can quickly deploy if the roads flood. I see them a lot here in Indiana where roads flood often
Yeessss, please keep doing these in Ohio 😆 I was close on the Independence one (I said Brecksville), got the Youngstown one, and I agreed on the BG one. And I think I've definitely driven by Ernesto's. I've lived in Lorain, Findlay, Cleveland, Youngstown, and now I'm in southeast Columbus so I feel like I'm taking a tour of the state at this point.
Awesome job! I’ve been to pretty much every part of the state too and there’s definitely subtle clues you just notice in the photos that tell you yes to one part of the state and no to another. I was shouting “I-75! Not 77!” on that last one. I’m curious to know what part (or parts) of Ohio you’re from.
As someone who is from the Akron area, I-76, I-77, I-277 is so dumb like who decided it should split around downtown like that. And theres always a part of one of those highways closed for construction
11:40 loaded in and immediately knew it was Henry County. My reasoning, because it looks very Henry County and I recognized the cell tower in the distance.
6:03 I almost wanted to guess New Albany for this one, even though I'm pretty sure New Albany is flatter than that. If it were a fancy neighborhood with white picket fences, I'd immediately choose New Albany. Being near the Cuyahoga Valley makes sense.
i was told the tar is to fill in cracks in the road. I don't know if that's real but they did it on the playgrounds too and we used to pick it off and play with it if it was hot enough to melt
Say whatever you want about Ohio, but the turnpike is glorious. Its one of the best parts of driving to the east coast from Michigan. Totally worth the money. Those travel plazas are a life saver.
ohio is so unremarkable it's become remarkable several times I have seen europeans ask about ohio and what goes on there. no one really answers but it's neat
The cause of the squiggly lines in the road is asphalt crack sealant. I don’t know how effective it is but applying it is cheaper and less time consuming than repaving the road. That’s the main reason they use it.
I live in Kentucky close to the river near Brown and Adams County and was born in PA 80 miles from the border on 80. I’ve been everywhere in Ohio except NW Ohio Akron I swear has the worst construction I’ve seen in my life and Columbus in Pa is like Pittsburgh for traffic. Ohio a gorgeous state tho
The most Ohio scene I can think of is a cornfield, a shitty road, some invasive species of plant taking over the tiny bit of woods on the side of that terrible road, and if there's a farmhouse, there's around a 5-10% chance for there to be one or many trump flags still hanging. Eastern Ohio is the prettiest, I'm not biased at all.
Ohio here! Woo! We're on youtube! EDIT: ...and it's not for something awful! edit 2: I didn't know Northwest Ohio was known for having weird properties on weird intersections. I can actually think of a few not far from where I grew up, near BG.
Wasn't sure you were from Ohio until you pronounced "Elyria" correctly. NOBODY gets that right on their own! I was raised outside of there. Louisville now. And yes you will get the pronunciation of THAT wrong. Trust me.
Nice! Feel free to point out cars in future videos, like if there's a specific make/model that was launched by a tornado, etc. I know about ten cars lol
