I Played France for the FIRST Time in EU4!

@@Rodrilechan Not in an inland sea. Galleys are cheap to build and to maintain. For some powers like Venice, The Ottomans, Genoa, etc. Basically anything that has to deal with inland seas and not oceans. Galleys is the way to go. It's the cheapest and most effective combat unit in the inland sea, no doubt about it. However, if Tommy/France wants to attack England. You are going to have to break their big ships with your own or be lucky enough to fight them in an inland sea. The Irish sea is a good place to fight the English. But do it early, because they get a shitload of ship buffs.

@@Rodrilechan In that case the heavies would win. But one heavy costs way more then one galley.

@@Rodrilechan Maybe, depends on the other factors in the game. England gets massive heavy buffs in the game and the longer the game goes on, usually the more op they become. But early England doesn't have those buffs yet. But you can easily get good buffs on galleys early on. Some nations, like the many Mediterranean nations have galley buffs. So their galleys are much stronger than let's say French or English galleys. Also you can choose almost at the start your naval tradition. One of those makes your galleys 33% extra combat effective for 0 cost. The problem is, your 10 heavy ships cost 500% more than galleys and take twice the amount of time to build. The fact I'm even doubting you would win an inland battle 1 to 1 versus a Venice, Ottomans or Genoa makes this conversation unnecessary. Note that heavy ships are much more expensive in maintenance, even when mothballing. When I play a Mediterranean nation, my first and almost only naval concern is, do I have more galleys than the rest? If that answer is yes, then maybe I'll construct a couple of big ones. The entire strat of Venice, Byzantium, Ottomans, Napels Genoa, Aragon is all build around naval power and traditions. Specifically galleys. They are not simply orcs, those galleys are Uruk-Hais :D. So if you even win with 10 heavy ships, but lose 4 out of 10. You still lost more money and sailors than your competition. 10 vs 10 is something that doesn't happen. Venice, if undisturbed by Austria, will have about 35 galleys + trade ships. 10 heavy ships are a big investment of both time and money. If I build 20 galleys, even with overextension, I will always win. I will have paid less for my navy to begin with and it will be cheaper to maintain. In an inland sea, galleys are just the best cost/effective unit. And historically this is very sound too. Nations like the Dutch were very hard to control due to them having very shallow seas and their ships were build for it. They didn't really use galleys, but more nimble and less deep ships. But the git is the same... The English, French and Spanish ships knew many defeats at their shores. Their ships would get stuck and get outmaneuvered. It doesn't matter if you have more cannons, you still need to be able to aim and fire...

@@nanafundesu Yeah those matter and france is literally the only nation you dont start by giving all your crownland away but overall you can lose that at the very beginning and it 100% does not matter

@@Geo-nw9ug Ottomans are good, but you can't fight the other major powers until later. As France if you start well, you can nerf castille, aragon, Burgundy, England, Portugal and Austria. France has a good mission tree with some easy PU's like Napels. You don't even need to focus on colonization. You can just keep on stealing colonies from the other powers. Play your cards right as France and you own the entirety of eastern and central Europe, especially now since you can "easily" become HRE emperor too. Also France has western tech tree, which is definitely op. Austria is good too, but that definitely needs experience. The PU mission blob you can become as Austria is crazy. I have one playthrough as Denmark. My Austria has Bohemia, Poland, Lithuania and Hungary in a PU... It's barely 1550... But yeah Ottomans def come in at a close second. France, Ottomans and later Russia have so much manpower, that they are extremely forgiving whenever you lose a battle or even an entire army.

@@FragLord Its crazy how the ai nations consolidate since i think domination. Everytime i play outside Europe and get vision on it, i only see big Great Powers like PLC, France, Austria getting really really big

Bro is spitting fax. i think the reason why many dont play Eu4 is because of the Graphics, which shouldnt be a reason to not play a game and secondly the many things you can do thus getting overwhelmed etc.

I left it soon after starting it because the micromanagement of economy was too scary for mee😢

@@lisato yea he just suicide marches his army, split into multiple separate stacks, into the enemy force sitting on a hills fort they control when his morale is like at 10%, and then he's pissed when he obviously gets annihilated

By mid to late game unless you have an ai mod you should be rolling through ai like the mailman rolls through my mothers

The player can micromanage infinitely better than the shitty AI lol, the AI doesn't even fill it's frontlines in it's armies most of the time.
