Seems a sticking point for people in this review is that I said I'm not a fan of the turn based battles and I don't think I did a good job explaining why I think it's not great in THIS game in particular. theyve simplified battling much more by removing abilities, held items, and a lot of stat changing moves. this coupled with the fact having multiple turns is based on speed makes it so there is not much strategy and its more about just having really high speed and then smacking opponents with big moves. some of my favorite games are persona 4 golden and persona 5 royal which are 100 hour jrpgs with turn based battle after turn based battle so believe me, i am not a JRPG hater. i just wish game freak would have done something more with the battles in this game because they stick out as old fashioned among all the new updates. thats why i said "in a weird twist" the battles are the worst part, because usually battling in pokemon is something fans love. i in no way want them to forever remove turn based battling
I respect your opinion dude but if people like me want to enjoy the game don’t flutter people and say “oh you really play this game hahahahaha your stupid that game sucks”
I honestly still kinda wish people at the very least MOVED during cutscenes. Instead of just standing there like 🧍♀️🧍♂️and turning in 90 degree turns, guess it’s picky but meh
not picky at all imo they made pokemon animations a lot better but everything else looks bad. people dont even walk around the village they just stand there
I prefer stationary characters to moving characters that bug out or have very bad animation. On the upside anybody that has no station does have a day and night cycle (I mean people are are outside during day and they are inside during the night) unlike moving npcs which don’t do that. Though I agree pokemon npcs should have pathfinding implement so they feel a lot more alive.
Let's hope Arceus is the first step of a continuous betterment of the next Pokémon games. All they need is take one thing at a time. Make the game more fun, then better animations, then better story, then make the graphics better.
@@YungPhilosopher Colosseum had 61 Pokemon in total, they couldn't handle even gen 1 pokemon in their entirety, imagine eight gens that the fans go crazy if one pokemon is missing. In that game they focused souly on the battle and nothing else. Just saying if you want another colosseum type game they will have to severely cut on alot other content.
@@YungPhilosopher You do know that the games barely make any of the income of the franchise right? the majority are cosmetic items such as plushies ect. It's a miracle the games are still pumping out today and not discontinued. I am not saying that we should be happy with the current design, quite the contrary. The thing is, if a company is making a good step torwards the right direction try to be a little more lenient so they can aknowledge that they are heading the right direction base on the feedback. This better explains it that I ever could, because it's not a clear cut of "simply fix this and this" and the game will be triple A quality overnight. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zi3_A1Oj6Nw.html
The thing I love the most about it is it showing off the lore. No spoilers but the side quests actually help us learn more about the pokemon we are facing.
Very fair review. I think for me personally the outdated graphics and ugly pop ins are a turn off, but this game is absolutely a step in the right direction for pokemon which I hope to dear god that game freak realizes. Maybe then we can get Legends Arceus 2 which would at least look as good as Breath of the Wild.
Before I played the game I saw all the reviews said the same thing, graphics are bad. But after playing, graphics aren't even an issue and don't add any negative experience into the game.
But what if instead, we got the old Gamefreak special? They make exactly the same game with a slightly altered map two years down the line, but this time some of the Pokemon who didn't spit fire gain a 'Magma Form' so they CAN spit fire. It's a fresh new game ladies and gentlemen!
@@richardlee3679 Such an incredible Idea, that would change the entire video games industry since the first game ever created, you know what? You should be the boss.
I would love for a game like this (or this game) to be a multiplayer game. Like genuine multiplayer. Not any of the swsh crap. You can make a lobby and give a code to friends and explore a story and stuff along with doing group battles or joining battles to help your friends. That would be epic.
i think one of the biggest missed opportunities with this game is almost no multiplayer options. not even battling. it is for sure a more single player focused story but pokemon games always are. i hope if they try legends 2 they can find a way to bring in some kind of multiplayer aspects
tried really hard to keep it real and talk about everything. i feel the same way that most pokemon content is either completely tear the games a part and call them trash or ignore all the faults and say how amazing they are. no game is like that, especially pokemon
@Doppelganger D I'm not saying the reviews need to be balanced, I'm just saying that at that time, the reviews I was hearing were either only good or only bad. now that the game has been out for a few days the reviews are more mixed where people aren't judging the game as only complete good or complete bad reviews.
Just bought Arecus yesterday and even though the graphics aren’t breathtaking, is very entertaining and fun to play. If this is the route they are taking I’m excited for future Pokémon games.
i can see that, i dont hate the turn based combat of pokemon myself it just feels like the 2 dont mix well especially since battles feel more simplified after removing abilities and held items and even a lot of status moves. its even farther on the side of "click big damage move, hope your opponent doesnt randomly get 2 turns in a row and revenge kill you back"
i talk about it in the video but as an "action rpg" you usually have action based combat. think of kingdom hearts, ff7 remake, or even soulsborne games where instead of controlling your trainer and doing nothing but dodging you actually control your pokemon and use their moves like spells. just an idea
@@PurpleThunderNE that would be so cool, like in pokken tournament. i really wish the pokemon games would become more like the anime where there is real time action
What really impressed me was how despite all its issues, how genuinely fun this game is to play. After I got past the tutorial, I couldn’t put it down.
Man, honestly, I haven’t played a Pokémon game since Ruby (yes, literally like 20 years. Damn I’m getting old lol); but I’m about to cave and get Arceus.
I hope you have fun with it then! It's a big change for the series but I think it's a worthwhile one. It's no where near perfect so if you do let it fly and get the game just be warned its got some irritating quirks but overall its a fun time in my opinion.
Man i am constantly impressed with how well worded and confident you seem when dealing with your videos, im so happy the youtube algorithm blessed me with your leak videos, this truly is the best review and best worded video ive seen of legends. So happy to have been here since before 1k!
thats very high praise, i appreciate it!!! its my first time making a formal review so im glad people are liking it. tried to just speak my truth on the game cuz theres a lot of people hesitant to buy it and for good reason.
This should not be your last time making a formal review if I'm being honest. I enjoyed this. It helped me make up my mind. And dude is right.. very well spoken.
I think the polish of this game is quite embarassing. This game goes into the right direction but got released halfway into development. The game feels like 10-15 years behind in terms of quality and features compared to other open world games. At this point it feels like GF is completely incompetent. Pokemon could be game of the year material with a studio that actually cares about producing an amazing game. This could have been so much more.
I can kinda understand they wanted to keep momentum going with PLA releasing shortly after the D/P remakes, but not only do you have the _Small developer pls unduhstando_ split in two for almost a year, you also only give them time to get pretty much everyone on board for just 3 months to polish the final product before release. I wouldn't be surprised they won't patch optimization in for a while since it's selling at MSRP regardless
what's more outrageous is they literally left the 3ds because they wanted to advance their graphics! and then they give us this pos that looks like it could of been played on a gamecube or a playstation! they put more effort in the character and pokemon models but they put barely any effort in the backdrop itself
5:07 graphics do matter, it is 100% still part of the enjoyment of a game and it doesn't have to have 4k textures or what not but it can still look good
I would buy it for $30-$40 but not the full $60 price tag. The game world looks so empty and dry. They're definitely on the right track, but not quite there yet for me.
I personally like the turn based system more than action RPGs but I can see how it creates a bit of a disconnect, otherwise this review has me genuinely interested in picking it up even if I'm not super into Pokemon!
i hope you enjoy the game then! i think it truly is a refreshing turn for pokemon to go into this style. the game has a LOT of rough edges and quirks but overall as a long time pokemon fan im very happy with it and can easily say this is the most fun ive had with a new pokemon game in forever
Even it is to keep a turn based system, there are so many more advanced turn based systems, and the style idea really doesn't help. Frankly if they could just accept that they got it right in gen 5 for a solid, consistent combat experience, that would be welcome. Is that system innovative? No but it's largely balanced aside from power creep in pokemon stats themselves. Every gimmick makes it worse because it's not balance don gimmicks.
@@government_is_violence if you get rid of the turn based system then pokemon is no longer pokemon, not to mention the competitive aspect is gone. Which as a competitive pokemon player, I do find pokken enjoyable but pokemon and pokken are two different things. I mean imagine DragonBall but no fighting, that wouldn't be DragonBall, likewise getting rid of turn based system would get rid of pokemon
I personally think this game highlights a lot of problems with Game Freak and most Pokemon games, now that they don't play as safe as before, it really shows how far back they are in gaming. Graphics has evolved since then, and this is something even a student project would do better. Even the story, they take a small step forward and another step back. Game Freak don't have to do anything innovative, they just need to improve.
@@andrewl8514 And the point flew over your head. Pokemon is a 90 billion dollar franchise and this game looks like it was made by a group of students in a game jam. Graphically, nothing has to change for this game to look, feel, and play better. The technical limitations are not why this game is terrible, the neglect and incompetence are. A full fledged Pokemon RPG should have been a console, no, a console generation defining video game. There is zero reason for this game to not be on par with the greatest video games ever made. If Game Freak wasn't up for it, they could have outsourced this game to a studio that knew what they were doing
@@MrImOriginal Okay, so if it looks like something made by students in a game jam, which game jam do you know of that made a switch game with better visuals?
@@andrewl8514 You're still doubling down on the wrong point (Which was hyperbolic by design). First off, the switch uses common PC architecture albeit underpowered because it's a tablet. So any game jam project made for any given system can appropriately be used here. Take your pick as there are hundreds if not thousands. The point is that you have a studio making a game with the budget of hundreds of millions of dollars, producing what is equivalent to an amateur production
I think they could make something like Ni No Kuni where you can move the Pokemon around, but the combat is still semi turn based. But a full action game is not realistic without significantly cutting down the number of Pokemon in the game.
There is literally NO EXCUSE for the game to look like this. A game 5 years into a system’s life shouldn’t look worse than the game released on launch day.
Like everyone else I would love Pokemon to become an action rpg that let's you control your pokemon in battle, but at the same time I understand just how difficult it would be to program this. With over 200+ pokemons (just in this one) and God knows how many moves. It would take years to make an enjoyable experience and get rid of most bugs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yep and the reality is that GameFreak has deliver a new product every year, since their company needs to bring in profit to help keep the company running. It will be probably a long time before we get something like that, but maybe someday. And they also don’t have same freedom as the developers as breath of the wild, which took 5 years to make 😅
Excellent review. Another thing I love about Legends is that it clearly shows that gamefreak does hear the criticisms, and is not blind to them, even though they're still addressing them in a somewhat limited way. A more open world, more and better animations, as less linear and hand holdy game, a more difficult game. These are all things the fans have been very vocal about. And the difference between sword/shield and Legends in many of these regards is definitely noticeable.
"Catching Pokèmon is one of the most time consuming aspects of a normal Pokèmon game" well, it's more or less what the entire franchise is about... too bad they simplified the battle system, hardcore strategy is what make the games enjoyable by adults
This really seems like a prototype/ raw skeleton for something great and builds a foundation for the future, I'm not buying this one but I'm really exited for the next Iterations
My same thought. I love landscapes in videogames and in this aspect they definitely missed. I just don't like the aspects or the colors of the game. I don't like the new pokemon designs... like AT ALL. The only way Gamefreak will ever get me to buy their games is if they spend more than 1 year to actually make a polished game. However, it is nice to see them do something slightly different for once lmao.
youre missing out on this one dude. im 60 hours in and havent finished the story cause ive gotten lost doing other things. its incredible and definitely where pokemon should be headed
@@gabrielagarciarodriguez2895 thats not the point, game companies don’t give us new and interesting things because usually things that stray off the path of whats meta doesn’t make them a certain amount of money. This is game freaks first attempt at really doing something new for a mainline game, and i thought its interesting- definitely alot that could be improved but hey this is a step up from the last main line drop for sure.
Would say it's a good first step that they're taking. Hopefully they are able to improve on some parts that are lacking when developing future games with similar gameplay
Most of the problems i have exist in every other mainstream RPG. I don't like the waypoint markers. We have a fucking map. Please...... I hate the quests. No quests. Quests are purely artificial gameplay. Why are people so obsessed with them? Natural game-play incentives and proper gating are far better. If you are going to make an open world, make an open fucking game. Cut it with the putting linear games into open worlds thing. Subnautica showed how vastly superior a well designed game is to fucking quests. That was like 5 years ago. Why are we still on this shit? And let me access and rename pokemon from my field remotely. Idk why thats not a feature either. I like to rename and keep the first pokemon of every species I get. The graphics are shit. But its a switch game. So frankly, the graphics can be ignored while I fumble with the worlds shitty input method the thumbstick. Im too distracted about how terrible controllers are to use and how desperately improved the game would be with KBM. but its a switch game. So those are "excusable". Thats really it. I like the exploration focus over trainer fights (which I always avoided and loathed when I had to do them). I like new pokedex progression with the checklists. I like having only 240 pokemon. I like how they are all on the same copy of the game. Beating the game is actually feasible. The only improvements that need made are de-mainstreaming it. remove waypoint markers. remove quests. Add actual gameplay incentives and proper gating to progress the story instead. No more artificer gameplay.
@@Wylie288 I agree with you completely on the second part. However, your first paragraph basically lists stuff that isn't really bad or negative on it's own. Side quests and markers aren't automatically bad, they're a mechanic. It's up to the devs to make them good. Take Skyrim, for example. The best storylines of Skyrim are in side quests apart from the main story. And way point markers? I don't see they issue with them. A game can have them or not, I don't think it makes much of a relevant difference. Basically, if you hate side quests and way point markers just because they're quests and waypoint markers, then why even bother playing open world RPGs in the first place?
@@Wylie288 bringing Subnautica in is really weird, it has a story to give the player directions, but they can choose to not follow it and do whatever they want (after you found the cure in Subnautica case I guess) because at its core it's a open world survival game, the endpoint can be set by you and not the game. Also there's no quests in Subnautica because 1.there's no one to give you quests in the first place and 2. It simply can't fit, the story is spread around the world and you explore for it, while still gated behind events, it's not "beating boss A to proceed to area B", a more extreme example would be Outer Wilds. PLA is an RPG game, so Metro or Skyrim would be more of a closer comparison, and all those things you hate are RPG mechanics not just shits they want to add for the sakes of adding, that's why they exist in every mainstream RPG. When the story is more on the important side, and there're more place you can go than just 1 straight path ahead, side quests are there to either give more lore of the world or just a waste of time (in that case it's bad quests design, but side quests in PLA doing a decent job at showing how pokemons slowly being accepted into human society and some more lore), and that's when navigation aka quest marker when you got a bunch of side quests at different locations that you have to keep track yourself otherwise. You're not the first to complain about these things tho, some people always want more immersion in open world RPG by removing these seemingly useless elements, but I can assure when it's not there, the game would feel more dulled, lifeless and confusing even.
@@Wylie288 first of all, the Switch is capable of much better graphics. If you want a fair comparison of stylized games that look good on Switch, look at Shin Megami Tensei V, a Switch exclusive that also happens to have open design and monster catching mechanics, made by a relatively niche developer (at least in comparison to Pokémon) Second of all, KBM is NOT superior to controller. It's more a sidegrade than an upgrade. It is superior for FPS, MOBA, and MMO games, but action RPGs, JRPGs, platformers, and other such genres are best played with a controller. It really depends on the games you play; and as someone who does not like the games suited to KBM inputs, I often find myself using a controller on PC. Maybe you just don't like the Joycons, in which case I suggest you try the 8bitdo Pro 2. It's compatible with PC too, so you can test it out with your Steam library.
Love that they’ve tried something different and are incorporating a semi open world (from my understanding) but MAN the muted/ dampened colors really stick out like a sore thumb. Still excited to play at midnight, great review!
Great video! For so long ever since this was first announced I was hesitant of picking it up but after seeing the leaks (minus the story) and watch gameplay online it convinced me to pick it up and I feel like I'm going to have a great time playing this! Gamefreak should really listen to more feedback but I'm more optimistic for the series if they continue this approach!
I really hope you enjoy it then! the game is for sure rough in a lot of spots and has lots of room to grow but overall i had fun with it. really hoping gamefreak continues this line of games and polishes it to be great
To be fair, the only aspect I really felt really bad is the graphics, it shows that the project needed like 6 more months to be completed, but for some reason (I think it could be because the next console is coming in), they rushed it by cutting off all the optimization and polishing, I mean, if you are checking the memory (specially on emulator, but it happens on the switch too), in places like the village it is more consuming (you can also see that in the farm-like place where it is keeping your pokemon, it shows so few of them that it feels weird). the Trees are assets you could download on 2008, also the world in many places feels really empty (unlike in Zelda). All those aspects are just aspects that really lowered the game experience, but still it feels really fresh and I assume they were planning to use the fluid combat system like in kingdom hearts as this video proposed, but it needed more programming (proves? well, the pokemon can hurt you, they are already attacking, what makes more sense could be to call your pokemon, and keep fighting in that style (like in smash with "pokemon trainer")). Let's have faith that they will keep on that path. Kirby feels like a mario odyssey, why not a pokemon breath of the wild?
I was extremely disappointed with the lack of pokemon breeding and online battles. Two major core aspects of the game completely gone. When I discovered this I lost interest in the game really fast. This could have been a truly great game but I feel like the devs didn't feel bothered to take it that extra step with it. They could have incorporated those things in a unique way that would have been relevant to that time era and it would have been amazing! Heck, it could have even been end game features once the pokedex is filled and the people know more about pokemon but to completely remove those things I think were a big mistake and is ultimately what is going to make people play this game through and quickly forget about it. Pokemon breeding and online battles gave longevity to the game.
I’ve hardly seen anyone talking about the broken battling system and you worded it perfectly, that’s one of the glaring flaws for me and I’m surprised that after 25 years they actually kinda messed it up
I'm pretty sure anyone complaining about the battle system here isn't an actual pokemon fan... or they don't understand all that's been changed (RIPPED) from the OG system, I swear, and also POKEMON GO CATCHING MECHANICS... in their mainline game.... AHHHHH AHHHHHHHH... no...
I've played every game up until Sword and Shield. I was pleasantly surprised when I got absolutely swept by an alpha lvl 30 Pokemon, just because I was too stubborn to run away, and I wanted to catch it. Game feels a bit challenging at the start which is a breath of fresh air, rather than you (the main character) obliterating everyone in every pokemon game and giving you no challenges whatsoever.
Imagine if they put all or at least most of the pokemon in, ramped up graphics, added more features, etc. I could totally see this ass the future of the games
>put all or at least most of the pokemon in You'll pay another $30 to get another 100 or so and that's it. Better buy that Pokemon Home subscription, paypig. 😔
I wouldn't even mind if not all Pokemon are in. That's fine. It's not unnatural for a region to not have every Pokemon, as it is in real life. I just want it to be good.
As someone who's been a Pokemon fan for about as long as you have, I agree with everything in this video. The game is very rough around the edges, particularly in the graphics department, but the gameplay is so good and so refreshing as a long-time fan that it makes me feel like a kid experiencing Pokemon for the first time again. I'm extremely excited to see where they go in the next games, because this is absolutely the directional shift that the series needed.
This is the most nonbiased review for wether or not i should preorder. Every other review is so one way or the other. Although I wont pick this one up, thank you for providing a quality review
i appreciate that! its good to hear you dont think im biased even though ive played so much pokemon. i tried really hard to just keep it real and point out the good and bad stuff. lots of reviewers either just focus on only the good or bad when in reality nothing is like that
"The stakes have never been higher" Yeah you're making the first pokedex, without you none of the future generations would have their most useful tool to determine type match ups and you set the groundwork for research that leads to so many advancements that- "The worlds ending, pokemon are actually scary!" oh yeah I mean that to. . . i dunno happens like every other Tuesday if its not to cloudy and someone feels up to it. . .
Also, I haven't seen anybody point this out but when it says for example: "You caught Pikachu unawares!" Pretty sure that unawares would be just unaware but idk if it's just the translation or what
I’ve been playing since Gen 1 and I loved the changes, I just hope they build on this and make it better and more expansive. I’m still waiting for an mmo version which if this is the first step towards that, I’m all in
I love turn based battle I really don´t understand why people want every game to have an action based battle system, there are enough games with action based battle system not every game has to be just made for you
@@goose7175 acting like skill is something to be considered in this scenario lol. Sure he can grind level and whatnot, but fundamentally it’s a broken mechanic
I been wanting a tales of arise style battle system where you enter a battle normally and then the Pokémon comes out and you control it and it’s moves through buttons mapped out
remember last year when we saw the first trailer and people said "it's still alpha, they will fix it by release date" ... lmao yup, i knew it then that the game will be released looking exactly as it did back then and now it's been confirmed. I respect that they're trying to change their formula (about fkn time), but this game needed A LOT more development time, but Game Freak always rush their games to maximize profit.
I make games myself for fun, and I can honestly say that it is unfortunate they didn't simply fill the areas out. They also failed to just give people what they want. We want an open world experience; town to town, trainers to fight, we want to live as a character through the tv shows / movies type journeys. It's really not the best they could of done, especially for 60 dollars. That is the cost of a AAA game. This could be released on steam for 10 dollars and I would not be surprised. It honestly seems like a cash grab, much like the new Pokémon snap.
I think it's a step in the wrong direction. They should have stuck with the brilliant diamond style, but made a lot more endgame content, difficulty modes and custom story modes (like nuzlockes). It would be a lot more exciting if the game is actually locked to custom rules or difficulties m, until the story is finished.
Don't know if this is a super new channel but just want to say I like your delivery and editing style. I think you'll really take off on YT. Keep it up``
thank you so much!!! ive been making videos for a long time but in the last week or so my legends arceus videos have been popping off. we just hit 1k subs yesterday and i hope to keep grinding!
I love the way you explain things. You don't sugar coat anything and are just super genuine and informative! Thank you for this video. I've been super on edge about this game. From one hand the graphics made me uncertain if it's worth supporting this, since I expect more from TPC since they have unlimited money essentially. But on the other hand, I really like the gameplay changes they have done and want them to keep this style of game, or make new mainline games like this, with a cool catching system and free roam, BUT still keep gyms and stuff.
The best Pokémon game in terms of value since Platinum. What a breath of fresh air, as much as Gen 9 will be like an evolution, selling two separate games that are the same is a ripoff. Legends Arceus will hold it's value better with the passage of time.
I've played it for a little over 2 hours and I kind of wish there was a "master mode" to skip the intro cutscenes. I avoided the guy for a bit and then was still forced to learn about interactions I already had and figured out. Like the game isn't hard in the way of gaming concepts to recognize and learn. I do feel like the background graphics aren't that great; I had a whole battle where the grass was jumping/glitch moving and it drove me nuts. It's a cool concept but it definitely isn't breath of the wild for pokemon. It is fun, but I'm also hoping those Dex tasks get a little more creative than "catch X number of this" and "see this move Y times." It's also an interesting concept but again, after 2 hours I wanted a break, compared to other games where I'd be able to binge play before realizing how much time had passed.
It's odd to me that the game chose to have me do 3 cutscenes for each "type" of pokemon but then didn't explain a back shot to me, or why I get more (?) money for it. It also completely skipped berries, or I haven't hit the tutorial for berries, so I'm confused as to how it works and the success rate. Just a weird misbalance of "you can do what you want but we want to hold your hand, but we won't explain it to you in one tutorial phase." 🤔
thats a really good point. im on my 2nd playthrough now and theres so much fucking dialogue to read for the tutorial but still somehow they dont tell you everything. once i missed a 100 percent accurate move with no stat changes in play or anything and i had no idea why that happened, but i think it mightve been because the area was foggy and i might be stupid but i just do not remember them saying thats a possibility in any tutorial
Remember guys, true fans know the good and bad in their favorite videogames! I am super excited to play PLA but we can't deny there is some edges that need abit of polishing! (If I had a coin of people saying I am being negative to point out the bad when I really want to play PLA I would be a millionaire) Be like PurplethunderNE, overall I cannot wait to buy this and Amaze Vid! :D
totally agree. as fans we should know better than any random twitter andy what isnt working in our games. i had lots of fun with this game and im very excited for everyone to get to play it soon!
@@PurpleThunderNE Twitter Andy be like: "Did you just have hopes for more polishing and have actual good criticism and you STILL playing the game? Wow dude so toxic! Get Cancelled! I will dox you now! >:("
I agree for the most part, but controlling your Pokémon? Half of the joy of battling is following the formula of strategically choosing the correct move for the situation
Decent review, all in all I think I'll hold off on Arceus, as someone that was hugely into pokemon as a kid but largely fell off around OG pearl, but there's definitely some directions with this that look good, I hope they continue to refine that going forward. Like you said a more action based combat could've meshed better, especially with how the player character already has a dodge and things like that it's like they were so close. The graphics are another big point... like I liked Ruby's visuals more than this game's honestly. Which is apples to oranges obviously, but still, 3D games can do a lot better than this, switch or otherwise.
@@thechubbiestbunny1181 I know it might not be the most polished game, but if this was a disappointment after finally being the open world Pokémon game we've been hoping for since gen 4, then you may want to temper those high expectations
Ruby's visuals were kind of a high point for the entire series - chibi diamond and pearl was meh and no generation captured the feel like gen 3 did since then. It's totally not just because I'm nostalgic.
@@biomerl emerald was my number one in all the pokemon games that exist so far. The Region, the Pokemon, hell even the story was fine. Stopped playing after platinum. XY meh, BW meh BW2? MEH ive got heartgold, was pretty decent and Sword was in my oppinion bad. Lets go was fine actually, but way to easy. Arceus is a nice turn around, hopefully they will go further into that direction
I'm hoping that I caught this video during the calm before the storm because that 1.34k sub count makes me depressed. This video is too good for that. Lightning quick pacing, confident delivery, constantly engaging and very informative. What more could anyone ask for?
i dont even hate turn based battles i for sure think theyre not going anywhere but in a game like this it doesnt really work as well. its also way less strategic in this game anyways because theyve removed abilities and held items and now turns are based on speed. so its just pick a pokemon with high speed and good moves and youll win.
Except that's not in the game, bro. There's no real difficulty. The game is super fun but the balancing is pretty bad like every other mainline Pokemon.
Nah definitely not better, easily the worst combat system in existence but it used to work with the kinds of games they were. In this sort of game it makes zero sense
Pokemon should be like Mario Games where Nintendo comes up with new but risky ideas for almost every single new Mario Games, and it makes the different games immediately differentiated and gives you different experiences each time.
Thanks for the very unbiased review! Great stuff! Most people I have found are either praising or completely hating on it. Also, props for the Seinfeld soundbite. Another man of culture, I see. 💯💯💯
People saying the game structure is Innovative as if Ubisoft didn't produce ten thousand generic open world games with copy and pasted maps everywhere for the past ten years. It's a good step but no way near enough
I'm going to call you out a bit, what you're looking for is something like spectrobes where (depending on what game) you control your character, up to 2 creatures, or even have a friend control a creature in a fight
I personally think your idea for the replacement to turn based is a brilliant idea. I feel like that would single handedly place this pokemon in top 3 for me. The turn based definitely feels worse here in PLA
i think it would be a really fun idea to at least try, especially in a game so different like this. i dont want them to completely get rid of turn based battles for ever but i think it would be worth an attempt
@@wintersong2266 that's fine, tired of seeing the same 300 pokemon in the beginning anyway. Gib me only the regional variants and new region mons and im a happy boy.
I would love a open world pokèmon game where you still have the gyms and the elite four. You explore the world just like in Arceus, but there is no sones that are blocked out like in sword and shield and every other pokèmon game. You can go to every gym and every city whenever you want, but you cant fight the fifth gym before the four gyms before. There are more than one way to each city, and sometime you should maybe have to cross some cities with higher gyms than you can take when you first come to that city. You can go to the city with gym 7 and not have found the other gyms before. You would need to explore and find the cities and areas, and as you do that, the map will open up and you will be able to see more. You can go to dangerous areas where you will be oneshotted by pokèmons way above your level. This is just a rough consept, but if you ask me. It would be really fucking cool.
I've only played 1 hour of it so far, and I'm really seeing "flaws". They took a lot of inspiration from botw and so I was expecting a game that was at least half as good as botw was.. and it wasn't. The controls, npcs and graphics are jerky. No voice over, very tiring dialogue, npcs are boring.. I mean they could have at least had voice overs for the cut scenes. But then again, nothing can compete with botw, so expecting a game that took inspiration from it would be a bit too much. I do appreciate how different the game is from all the Pokemon games so far, but I was expecting something more to it.. so it's up to you as a player, I only say this because BOTW was my first switch game and well, it's a masterpiece. So play it for yourselves and then you can decide.
I mean. Botw has many flaws. Fucking quests for example. Its a good game. but its still has far too much artifical gameplay thats required to play the game properly. The great plateau was promising. And my dissapointment to find a fucking linear quest line was immeasurable. Idk why no one can learn from subnautica on how to make a proper open world game. Having an open world doesn't make your linear game an open world game. It makes it sub optimal because linear games work better in linear worlds.
"Let you control your Pokemon like in Kingdom Hearts." It would break the immersion. You control the kid not the Pokemon. Now if they had implemented something like the bond between Ash and his Greninja that could probably work.
i would argue that rocks and grass popping in feet in front of you is more immersion breaking than controlling pokemon would be haha its just an idea, action based combat could be cool to try
Think you meant to say Arceus at 3:10 ? Great review man! I totally agree that while I love the turn based gameplay of Pokémon historically, it would’ve been cool to see them double down on the action elements and allowed players to play as the Pokémon themselves.
nah i mean finding places like eterna forest from diamond and pearl but how they are in the past. action would be cool to see, its at least worth a try!
What a well put review. I will buy it off this review as everything you’ve said isn’t the typical “trash” or “buy ASAP” thank you for putting the time in!
After the credits roll at 30 hours you don't unlock the true ending It unlocks 30 more hours of content with legendaries and everything else and more missions
Im gonna have to honest here, i have a ton of fun playing Legends Arceus and as for a stand alone game its rather cool and the graphics didnt bother me much for i believe that was the intent since i've seen many other different types of graphics in other Pokemon games. However i'm a simple man who loves the premises of Pokemon and it was how it got me hook in the first place. I don't mind they tend to break the formula from time to time but not go too overboard as many other people want them to. Afterall Pokemon is a kids game and i dont want to much as having Pokemon battle as if it was a fighting game or something like the new Final Fantasy game or wanting Gamefreak put in voice acting even tho that will be neat or other stuff that grown people want Gamefreak to put in a kids game. Which by the way these are complaints ive heard from grown ups but not of the children as well which the game is meant for, but that's just my nitpick there. In the end after 25 years of what could be tradition of the same Pokemon games i still enjoyed it regardless.
I like all the world building, it's nice that through all the side quests you are basically shepherding the relationship between people and pokemon- also the deities actually feel like deities, only letting you catch them for a purpose or having to make something specific and the lake trio were cool- some of the writing also put a smile on my face, I wish the characters had a bit more time and just that bit more expression for me to get properly attached but they were quirky and fun while they were around
so you can catch alpha pokemon that are HUGE and they stay that way when you catch them, as well as some legendaries being massive but a lot of pokemon are still too small compared to what they should be like
@@PurpleThunderNE thats still a step in the right direction. I get why for some it might look odd, but if they even do this, it shows they're willing to go that extra mile for immersive gameplay.
I'm in the camp of I keep buying new pokemon games and never finishing them, this game I've played non stop since release though, I've never had this much fun in a pokemon game and I hope they continue and expand on it
