Recap of my first USTA tournament. Rolled my ankle pretty bad this week, so this video is going to have to take place of the Sunday Set. Hopefully we can get back to regularly scheduled programming next week.

Good to see your doing new stuff! (also at 1:59 the ball was definitely not out, im not sure if he changed the call or not)

Yeah, that was 1 or 2 inches in. Probably the guy thought it was going out and signaled the out prematurely. Seems he did correct the call based on the score.

Hey Trey. I started playing Tennis this Summer and have taken a lot of value from your videos - both entertainment and knowledge, so thanks for sharing your journey. I have my first official match and first ever tournament Today, wish me luck!

Not disrespectful at all to underhand serve. If it wins the point and they have a problem with it, play a different sport. edit: The nerves it takes to do this well on your first tournament matches, and not choking, is super impressive trey. Absolute badass bro. CONGRATS ON THE W'S MAN!!!!

Agree that hitting underhand serves in competitive matches is fine. Just maybe don't do it if you're killing someone who is a lot worse than you.

I love your channel. You have a super attitude towards the game , and I look forward to seeing how you improve over time. Your serve mechanics are really nice. It’s amazing that you’ve only been playing for a few months.

Seems like Jake maybe lost the drive to play. Seeing himself win easily two months ago and now losses easily must sting

It was bound to happen, Jake was playing pusher tennis. Good against new players but wouldn't have ever worked in the long run

Jake is super busy guy and good at everything he does! If he had the capacity to put a lot of effort in to tennis there would be crazy improvement! I happen to have more time on my hands and have a lot of fun with his channel.

Congrats on your first tournament win! You are progressing really fast man. You have caught up to plenty of 3.5s I know who have been playing forever, but have never really done anything to improve. There has to be a solution to record matches without running out of phone storage tho. Maybe get a cheap GoPro knockoff like a Yi where you can use SD cards and check in advance how much space you have.

This pisses me off. I was supposed to play in that tournament. Exact same division in fact, but the director posted the wrong number and I wasn't able to get a hold of anyone in time, so I lost all my money paying for everything down there and every match I was supposed to play counts as a loss. This was gonna be my first time even seeing a clay court in person. It's too bad, but maybe I'll wind up seeing you at some other tournaments. Kinda cool seeing the same kinda person at the same level on here. If you're ever closer to Tyler or Longview, id definitely be down for a match

good to see you playing more opponents! a big problem players have is getting used to the way their one hitting partner plays... also love your one handed backhand can't wait to see it progress over the next year

5:10 unless you consistently practice the underhand serve, it is HIGHLY unadvised to try it. You should never try something in match play that you don’t practice; however, that being said, if you do practice it and the situation potentially calls for it, go ahead and ace him with the underhand serve.

@@Winners-Only When you're smashing the overhead or high ball smash to the backhand side. That 1st serve at 0:30 was the timing, that's how slow you have to start the serve off to load it up, keep to that timing.
@Dasato123
@Dasato123 Год назад
@@Winners-Onlyor your opponents sake you should always show them correcting the call in the future as a matter of courtesy. He was nice enough to let you film the match you don’t want to hurt his reputation. The score did reflect the change but for all we know it might have come after a lengthy argument and not all viewers will pick up on the score reflecting the change. The power of editing is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly.
@TenisAmador
@TenisAmador Год назад
@@Dasato123 He could have made the correction signal when he was out of frame. However, a 1s text edit would make things fine ("he corrected the call, it was in").

Congratz! Playing in tournaments is way different than practicing! Just a suggestion: in events where you didn't get to record the match, do the same as you did in 6:57, and show the final score in an easier way for the audience to see!

I recommend taking time to develop a good Slice or Kick serve. If you can get a nice spin serve it will aid you in moving up to 4.0 and 4.5 level.

@@Winners-Only Bro that's awesome. That's actually kinda wild lol. I played ncaa and 20 years later I joined my first usta league. I dunno what level/tournament you are in, but I can say confidently you will be a 4.0 in a couple months if you just spend 1 of those months hitting only backhand slices. In other words, learning to hit a backhand slice no matter what comes at you. high topspin, low balls, flat, returns, even passing shots. If you spend an entire month just learning to hit a backhand slice no matter the situation, some really good things will start to happen completely unrelated to your backhand. { i'd bet your forehand starts getting bigger, your movement will improve drastically, your return game as well as transitioning forward, and you will just win more but thats not even the goal } And more specifically, focusing on developing rac head speed on your slice, from an almost high to low, hate to say it, but "chop"...vs driving through. main thing being developing rac head speed. I'm sure you will figure it out, you're pretty talented naturally given the short time you've been playing. Keep it up!
