@@manuelalbertoromero9528 The story was originally different and had better lore until sega decided it they couldnt go with the original story. When the game is a certain way and half way through its decided it cant be that way you can only do so much to fix it without outright deleting weeks work of progress.
@@5frogfrenzy plus Sega told BRB that the game was going to be a Wii U exclusive when they were already months into development. The game was built on cryengine 3 which the Wii was to week to support. So BRB had to further scrap levels, game features and plot points.
"Let's go get those miners!" "... that's not a good voice line Knuckles. " Clearly, Alpharad has never heard the part of the show where Knuckles talks about beating up children.
Its funny to think that eggman in another reality would be the ultimate evil just because he moves out of the way lol. Like not a single time, has eggman EVER learned to MOVE.
I do think Sonic’s biggest weakness in this game is his cockiness. I feel like that’s what keeps him being a relatively average hedgehog, every time he does alright he acts like he’s invincible. He’s like the real life Pit: mid tier with an Icarus complex
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve seen shadow the hedgehog round house kicked a main character in a hot garbage glitchy ass sonic game involving time travel, a time loop, in a boss fight cutscene, had a one time villain, and had a noise that made it funny I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
Absolutely love how sonic unleashes a literal world destroying entity that can make the whole world corrupted and the only lines the grandpa has to say is, "not cool sonic"
>Shows up in the beginning cutscene >Leaves for the majority of the game >Returns for one quick segment Alpharad barely bothered to cover >Leaves for the remainder of the game >Saves the day in the last cutscene for no apparent reason and says "Gottem" >Refuses to elaborate further >Leaves Alexa, play I Am The Eggman
The story begins with who's gonna win You know when danger lies within Aboard the ARK A genius at heart That wanted to unlock the mysteries of life I am the E.G.G.M.A.N: That's what I am I am the E.G.G.M.A.N: The one with the master plan
@@trailsofstars I was literally there during the stream, I'm pretty sure I'm right. You can even see me be replied to in chat in this video. Unless there's some way for RU-vid streams and Twitch streams to be merged, it was definitely on RU-vid.
The "We can use them as ramps!" Exchange actually sounds like one of those two lines was recorded as a stand in for that spot of dialogue until the writers came up with something more clever to use then, but either forgot or were just so incompetent that they straight up couldn't figure out something better
Hot take: I actually like the later seasons of the show. The suits were like: "y'know what? Fuck it. Do whatever", and the producers were like: "Okay! We will do whatever" and actually made funny shit.
The way gaming cycles work, in five years' time the kids who grew up with this game will suddenly become very active on the internet, and this game will be somehow retrofitted to be a "hidden gem" that "did many things right or something". Something very similar has already happened with Sonic 06. There's just something amazing about peoples' abilities to find the tiniest of silver linings in an absolute dumpster fire
Here's something that makes the game a hidden gem: Very expressive animation! Even if some of the designs or overall animation are controversial, the expressions are great!
The difference between this and 06 to be fair is that 06 was released on major consoles and Rise of Lyric was released on a console that only exists hypothetically
I think it's more amusing that it doesn't "sound" like Knuckles, it's like they just, took the line when the voice actor was reading the script, paused, and just, thought out loud.
i think the funniest thing about this video is that, even after the official sonic account crashed the stream and told jacob he was evading taxes, they still gave him early access to sonic frontiers
In all honesty, it's a shame that the backlash for this game prevented a 3rd season for the TV show which of course was the greatest thing to come out of this spinoff franchise
Ok, but the ENTIRE game leading up to Sonic’s “death” occurred in ONE DAY THEY TRAVELED BACK IN TIME 1000 YEARS, COLLECTED WHO KNOWS HOW MANY CRYSTALS, PLAYED TEMPLE RUN WITH METAL SONIC FOR 13 MINUTES AND PROBABLY OTHER THINGS WHO EVEN KNOWS ANYMORE WITHIN TWENTY FOUR HOURS
@@RhinoHorn7 Unless they went back 1,000 years, did their business, then went forward ONLY 1,000 years, and not forward 1,000 years + whatever time they spent there
I'm more confused at how the devs didn't think to use the time travel _they already established_ in some way to get Sonic back, by... I don't know, _time travelling_ or something? Then again time paradoxes are annoying to work out.
7:40 Running on water IS actually possible if something is fast enough, but I don't think it's not as easy as video games and movies make it out to be. The common basilisk lizard has flat back feet and can get up to 15 MPH on water, and with those two combined to it's relative size, it can run across water for short periods of time. This has led to it sometimes being referred to as the "Jesus Christ Lizard."
People always bring that line up even though the context surrounding it is talking to a character who just doesn't die every time he receives a fatal wound and pointing out that fact lol
@@tendrilartist3609 Yep. He's specifically saying he's not a normal person anymore. "People die when they are killed." *pointedly staring at the giant hole in his torso*
12:32 I was legitimately expecting Jacob to hit us with a "Not cool, Sonic." upon realizing that Sonic completely dipped This entire game felt like a social experiment, and I wasn't even the one playing it; overall, I can confirm that this is the Sonic game of all time
22:05 With how much Knuckles and his infinite jumps basically bends the entire game to his will, calling Sonic the sidekick isn't completely false for this game 😆
Knuckles, despite being DRASTICALLY not Knuckles in his fundamental character design, is still the best character in Sonic Boom's entirety. He's consistently entertaining, more powerful than physics itself, and he can time travel independent of the half baked story going on in this game.
Basically what we see occur in the game is called a “Bootstrap Paradox” where an infinite time loop is caused through a piece of information where the information no longer has an origin since it’s going in a circle and is considered “self-created” at that point
Legit, Jacob admitting to having Sonic Boom Being Good as his second video made me more comfortable releasing content myself. I'd have never done a fun Zombie House Flip series if it wasn't for some creators like Alpharad showing off their old stuff or talking about it. One of my videos hit over 25k views and I wouldn't have done that without releasing it.
the 3DS ones were pretty good tho. The first one had a few problems (Not nearly as bad as RoL) but the second one got rid of them and made it even better
im rewatching the video and only just now catching that the incredible "our unfinished business... is now finished" is in response to *sonic* saying "we have unfinished business" when he faces the snake man **in the past** brilliant also, my all-time favorite part of this video is where alpharad goes "oh no tails is in the gas chamber. ...WAIT IS HE ACTUALLY?!", the sheer horror in his voice lmao
This was probably the first game I played when I got my Wii U. The most memorable glitch that my sister and I found (aside from infinite jump knuckles) was if you were in the village area I guess and you went to a certain house, climbed on top of the roof, and jumped against the wall, the body would stretch out and look real wacky. We normally played as Amy due to the double jump, so it looked rather weird. I haven't been able to play it for a while because it just freeze, and I think I had the updated version.
@@_lostglory because you can put it in other contexts and make it funny. And it's funny to think that they'd be ignorant enough to not even know about rocket troopers.
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 oh yeah no i get it, like overall i know exactly whats going on and what the overarching story is, but each individual plot point is making me more and more confused
The moment of this game that sums up the entire game pretty well is that, in order to get the popup that explains how to move (left stick) is AFTER the first combat sequence, and you have to specifically MOVE forward to the next room to trigger it. It only tells you how to move once you’ve learned how to move.
this game is so tragic because it actually showed a lot of promise, until sonic team forced the devs to put it not only on the wii u (it was supposed to be on ps4 and xbox one) but they also rushed it out the door they also made them rewrite the story multiple times because “you’re not allowed to write a sonic origin story” and then they had to make it more in line with the show anyways, if you wanna see more i recommend watching splashdash’s video on it, it’s really telling of how badly sega treats its IP
and thats after they basically did the same mistakes themselves with Sonic 06 (except in that case they dropped the Wii version in favor of the other consoles, not the other way around).
@@Nirual86 I wouldn't call that the same mistake. They just cut an unsupported console out of the mix in favor of stronger ones. Sonic Boom meanwhile was apparently coming along very nicely, until they get told to port everything to the Wii U, which resulted in huge chunks of the game being cut and last hours spent on making an unsupported engine run on the Wii U rather than to polish the game. This is more comparable to Mass Effect Andromeda, where the entire game was built on an engine that cannot handle RPG focused games. Hell, there's problems with it running FPS games, the games this engine it was made for. Unlike Sonic Boom, this choice was apparently 100% on the team and not the bigwigs. Also to play Devil's Advocate here. Sega was not to blame for Sonic Boom, it's mainly on Nintendo. The contract stated Sega needed to release 3 games for their consoles. Sonic Boom got the shit end of the deal because of all their projects, this one was the closest one to completion and the deadline was ticking really close. Shit happens in game development, and Sonic Boom was there to save Sega from any legal nightmares.
@@kyotanaka920 that's not nintendos fault. it's still segas. If I borrow 50 bucks and need to pay you back and because of that, I need to sell something, that's not your fault. That's my own bad planning.
@@Neremworld Willing to bet that stayed in because that was one of the many aspects of the game that actually worked. Stupid shit tends to stay in when you're trying to put out all the fires. Just look at how memeable Andromeda was
Fun fact: this game’s story is a complete trainwreck because Sega making up arbitrary rules for the game devs such as: sonic can’t touch water and tails & eggman must be the only inventors
@Charon the Toaster Well that makes a lot of sense. It's another level if they are making them change shit without giving them any time to essentially rewrite the story
@Charon the Toaster Because of Generations, the only way to make an origins story is to use the Classic forms and do all sorts of confusing workarounds, like they somehow find a way to show why Amy is traveling to Little Planet or her being from Little Planet (they'll probably make it MORE confusing)
Gonna be real, the cartoon is genuinely funny. They really do a good job of referencing and parodying the history of the series and it's fans, and there are some great 'over the kids heads' jokes for adults hidden in there. I feel bad for the french animation studio that made it having their show's reputation associated with the trashheap of a videogame.
The comedy in the show was insane. Easily early/peak SpongeBob and Amazing World of Gumball level. Knuckles destroying the twitter feminism argument and explaining actual feminism is just legendary. Its a shame the show wasn’t more well known and loved. It was just legitimately funny with legitimately likable characters with legitimately good chemistry. Far more than I can say for most adult comedy cartoons
The Game Grumps play through of this is legendary, but the fact Sonic inadvertently named the Knuckles fly glitch “tax evasion” and the similar pointing out of its brokenness makes it just as good. Plus this is just way more condensed.
24:36 This is actually way more ridiculous because- I learned this in another playthrough, but the game only checks for *Sonic's* crystals. Meaning you can bypass the entire final boss by glitching to the end of his path and breaking the pod there.
I'm pretty sure there's something similar in DK64, where there are 7 required keys but the game only checks for the last one because it assumes you've gotten all the others This would, of course, work well if these games were well designed and not prone to thousands of bugs and glitches
