My boyfriend studied in Manhattan school of music thanks to a scholarship and he studied for concerts and competitions around 8 and 10 hours daily too, even if he is gifted he practices so much. Being gifted is not enought. Cziffra was this too.

Yes it forces you to work on posture just so you can continue that long without pain.

I think everyone has to know his/her own limits.... And it also depends on HOW we practice. If we practice 1 note per second and PP, it takes a long time but doesn't make the joints or muscles tired. Anyway developing mental practice is also important (just like professional sport people do).

And your conclusion was just realistic : once you are into the professional life, you don't have time to practice many hours anymore. It's normal and I think it is good because having a real life is essential if you want to continue to have rich things to convey through your music. You are an excellent pianist, you don't need that many hours of practice anymore to keep your level.

I suggest to work upto it more gradually, think months and years, add half an hour every month or so, you will improve better this way in the long term, going up so fast is likely to result in injury because it's a very physical thing, nevertheless well done for doing this it's quite an achievement.

@@horoffra I think that’s what one does when one is young, ambitious, has all the free time in the world and has 4 hours of repertoire to prepare for one of the biggest competitions in the world. He did win the first prize afterwards.

Wow, I can’t make it much past 3-4 hours without seriously losing focus and patience! Also your practice room and piano is so beautiful, maybe I’d want to practice more if mine had windows :)

You can do it, why don't you scale up to 10 hours a day over a much longer period, such as 1-2 years?

I have no time for this, 30h babysitting my son, 20h lessons, restoring a piano and social media, every week
