10:25 is the most important takeaway from this video IMO. I'm familiar with this George Sand quote about Chopin's creative process as well, and that led me to the same conclusion as in this video - if Chopin himself could not decide between variants, it means that there isn't a right answer and it can be ok to depart from the score. Also, pianos today are different from back then - maybe Chopin would've chosen a different variant on today's pianos in some cases. I think this is also a great example of how understanding certain details about the composer's life truly makes a difference in how we can interpret the score.

Chopin wrote so many masterpieces. Even a rarely heard late nocturne like op 62 n 2 is fully formed and indestructible in its symmetric beauty. That middle section agitato might be one of his finest melodies

Very interesting. I enjoyed listening to you talk about the background of the composer. I also enjoyed the process where he would chose between details in his compositions. It indeed sounds like he was an unstable person. Chopins compositions though have that special touch of perfection to them. Like every note fits perfectly. He also worked with minor second intervals a lot

You should definitely make adjustments to the music as you see fit. Chopin with that waltz obviously had many different ideas about how it should be. Depending on the instrument, the space, your mood, the audience's mood, etc. it would make sense to adjust certain things.

You should learn how to compose. It is extremely fun and fulfilling and in my opinion you can’t completely learn a language only knowing how to read and interpret. You need to learn the speak and write as well. I think it is very sad classical musicians today do not improvise and write as musicians of the past did. I hope this did not sound rude but I find writing just as fulfilling as playing honestly and I think it is important for you to at-least try. Have fun and have a good day!

I speak English and Music. In some circles, in music, we are relaxed loving interesting people who just happen to be talented. In other circles? Someone has to tell another how they’ve mastered French and English and tell another extremely talented person what’s not acceptable. Foolish. Go practice.
