Years ago on his TV show, I heard Bill Dance say: Wind from the East - Fish bite the least. Wind from the West - Fish bite the best. Wind from the North - Don’t go forth. Wind from the South - Blows the bait in the fish’s mouth.

Slow surf fishing here in Jacksonville FL as well. We still head out to the beach each weekend though. We have had to broaden the concept of targeted species to whatever we can legally take home is the target species. Love watching your videos.

Just drive back from there. 14hour straight. Didn’t catch anything but had fun and really only fished 2 days about 4 hours each.

I cut the clam into strips and salt for 1-3 days. Good for permit and pomp here from the beach.

I have used a Fishbites a few times and haven’t had any luck. Some people swear by them but I haven’t caught anything with em. Do I put shrimp and then tip it or can I use just straight Fishbites?

I try. It’s a very difficult thing to do on a slow bite day. I show them when I can.

If you're having trouble seeing bites, try using a lighter action rod to get honed in on what a bite looks like vs. waves/wind/etc. Then you'll be able to see it on heavier equipment. Helped me a lot.

I’ve always used spinning. Never used conventional or bait casters. I know the long casters all prefer conventional. I intend to try and get into some of that this year.

I have both. The bait caster is a pain. Sometimes it likes me sometimes it does not. Thank you for your response and motivating me to fish regardless of the tide.
