Galena is an ore of lead and silver. I know from Dwarf Fortress, which you should play.

The drilling is too slow. I remember in Motherload that upgrading the driller will make it much faster than this.

...I admit in this type of game I probably wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to just strip mine the place best I could, just go to the edge of the map, drill down one, then just keep drilling across to the other edge, repeat until bottom is struck.

The x/y location number actually is super helpful and you can create fall zones at 7, 17, 25 (main pipe), 35, and 43. so you can quickly (not really but eh) explore almost every part of the map. Comes in handy when collecting the final items you need.

Oh in my mechanic days I spent most of my time asking why the designer would put bolts in places you can't get to. There was always some inch and a half bolt you couldn't get to without ripping a whole other part off.

You shouldnt do the upgrades early if they depend on the amount of mines you have. Thats completely backwards. You want to increase the amount of mines you have, if you can, before buying any of the upgrades because if you get more mines first youll get more per upgrade.
