I'd never heard of this 'Hero' thing, but I knew the song And I didn't read the title properly So I thought they were introducing Shrek into Super Smash
Alternate title: Android 17, Monkey D. Luffy, Aquaman, and Gohan Beat the Shit Out of Fictional Characters Synced to Shrek 2’s “Holding Out for a Hero”
Conspiracy theory: they made it to sync up to this song and just waited till someone edited it and went viral so they didn’t have to go through copyright
i am entirely convinced that 0:59 through 1:09 is intentional. the glittering of the sword syncs up with the music, the "i need a hero" and then the bg choir going "HERO!!" syncs up PERFECTLY with the splash screen
It's not the fact that it matches, it's the fact that it matches perfectly. I mean anyone could have edited the reveal and the song but the fact that they just moved the start of the song and it perfectly fit is what's so fascinating about this reveal. Like, seriously speaking this might be the pinnacle of cinematography.
hero critical hit both of them according to the sound effect, and crits kill very early. Link definitely got at least a couple good hits but he didn’t need to do much for a crit to kill.
Oh god, I just noticed that when you hear “somewhere after midnight,” at the exact moment the word “midnight” is sung, it cuts to the characters around a campfire. That settles it. You MUST be correct; this was no accident.
"I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night" Its dark, end of the night then light breaks the clouds and reveals the Luminary. The light breaks on him when she mentions the morning light. Introduces the horse hes on when it mentions a white knight on a fiery steed. The music picks up as soon as he stands on his horse to save Link. When it says he has to be fresh from the fight it pans over his sword and clothes being unscuffed and "fresh" right after fighting the enemy off Link. No fucking way that was an accident
brunopaivarn I don’t see how that at all relates to my original comment. Also, I’m pretty sure everyone already knew that it didn’t originate from Shrek 2.

you're right, i just wanted to stress that because as the creator wrote it seems like he thinks it originated from shrek
He’s gotta be strong *Oomph/Psyche Up* And he’s gotta be fast *Acceleration/Zoom* And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight *Heal/respawning after Kamikazee*
This should've been the version of the trailer they played in western regions because they weren't as hyped as they were for hero as they were for banjo
How perfect is this? Let's count the coincidences, the perfect lineups big and small. 0:48 The intentional music start 1:00 The piano and sword shine 1:03 "HERO!" Introduction card 1:30 "Midnight" during a campfire 1:43 His impact with the thunder 1:54 the music crescendos with new Heroes Just that entire scene 2:20 Exact opposite, could've totally had Frizz (I think the wind spell is), Krackle Slash, and maybe Kerzapple? Imagine THAT lining up, right? Fire in blood having the explosions and flame slash, reflected fireballs, etc. 2:33 The pause with Zoom AND "Blooooood" with Kamikazi's light 2:45 The heartbeat note on the final smash use 2:50 "HERROOOO" on Omni Slash (was it?) That's a hell of a lot of coincidences. This, is a masterpiece, and a brilliant idea.
I wanna live in the timeline where this was official and everyone flipped the fuck out and the whole "Hoes Mad" controversy didnt even start because of how much this trailer slaps
Can we talk about how well the music matches the song. -slow buildup during the shot of Dharkon at the start -singing about being alone and desperate as Link get his ass kicked -"isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed" as HERO IS RIDING ON HIS HORSE -piano trill during the slowmo closeup on Link's eye -hero attack impacts on the second "OHHH" -choral "HEROOO" RIGHT when the name flashes on screen -beats during the instrumental work almost perfectly with the cuts -"somewhere after midnight" during the campfire shot on Gaur Plain -"wildest fantasy" on a crit -buildup with the brass as he's getting his ass kicked -tone changes to strings RIGHT when the other heroes appear -climax as they focus on Erdick -cuts speed up to show the spells just as the music syncs up -big long drawn-out chorus (BLOOO-OOOD) during kamikazee -buildup during the final smash scene -big HERO right when the last final smash does the sword swing Like this isn't just a meme, this actually works. The trailer matches the beats of the song so well, and it only falls apart at the very very end because the song is longer than the trailer.
This is one of those times where you wonder if the creators ACTUALLY timed this with the music when they put the trailer together, or if this is just a magical happenstance.
Punisher Castle Punisher Castle the best part is when near the end of the whole trailer the instrumental starts playing. Also at 1:30 when they say "somewhere after midnight" and the sky turns dark"
1:31 "Somewhere after midnight" All while the hero, samus, and zelda are at a campfire under the starry night That and countless other lyrics and melodies that fit too perfectly
I hate how despite 2 years later, this still gives me goosebumps for just how perfect it is. We're far past hero's release now, with our last(?) fighter yet to be revealed...and somehow this amazing idea still makes me shiver with how perfect it syncs
What's interesting is I, a nerd, noticed a lot of the cuts in the reveal were a bit off in terms of when I'd expect the editing to cut between things. Upon seeing this video, it's clear that the cuts were more focused on this song than the Dragon Quest music actually used in the reveal.
Christ, it never gets old. Idk what timeline I ended up in, but if Nintendo synced a trailer with a Shrek meme version of I Need a Hero then I'm right where I want to be.
This fits way too well, especially when the chorus chants ‘Hero’ exactly when his title card appears. I’ve listened to this too many times, but it doesn’t get any less epic.
Sakurai was listening to this while making the video. Nintendo just didn't want to pay the royalties (Remember the musicless Smash trailer?), but Sakurai knew in his heart that one of us would be a Hero and put the song back. Thanks for being that Hero, Duke Blaster!
There's a lot of comments about the chorus going "HERO!" when "The Hero draws near" appears , but this? 1:55 That is just magical. In fact, the whole build-up between 1:43 and the other heroes show up fits just right. I got chills.
Wait a second… that literally makes this seem literally more intentional than before when you consider what Shrek was doing when this song played in 2.
If you really listen to all the lyrics and watch the video sync up, it's insane how much of this song was made for this trailer. 0:10 "where have all the good men gone~" Showing the mastermind that takes all the characters and why everyone is gone. 0:28 "Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed." Him riding in on a horse. 0:51 "I need a hero!" Link is in trouble and needs a homie to back him up. 0:55 "I'm holding out for a hero by the end of the night!" The darkness in the sky starts to disappear. 1:06 "(Background chorus) Herooooo!" When his title cards pops up perfectly. 1:09 "....until the morning light!" The screen transition to bright morning in the Dragon Quest sky. 1:32 "Somewhere after midnight..." They are on Xenoblade's map where it is dark. 1:37 "Somewhere just beyond my reach, someone reaching back for me." The other Hero's are on their way, foreshadowing. 1:53 "(Cue Chorus)....(Cue Light)...(Cue Badass Intros with jazzy horn orchestration)" Probably the best use of syncing in the video, this shit so good, fuck it lets get more heroes! 2:07 "But when the mountains meet the heavens above!" The lyrics come back on a camera adjustment and zoom in, the other three Hero symbolizing the heaven above and the starting hero is the mountain joining up. 2:11 "Or where the lighting split the seas!" They arm up to charge in and attack the seas of enemies right in front of them. 2:26 "I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood! (Chorus repeats until last one)" Dramatic build up for the kamikazee, which he explodes himself, representing the fire in his blood. 2:53 "HEROOOOO!" Last call before showing smash title screen and showing his final smash. This shit was so nice, made my week.
“I NEED A HERRROOO!” *perfectly cuts in the bold text “THE HERO” after the song says it needs a hero* It doesn’t get more perfect then this, it just doesn’t
This fits so well I can't believe it. It's like one of the devs said "yeah there's this American song I'd like you guys to make the trailer match up with it" and they were like "aw hells yeah"
