i quit my nyc corporate job & i've never been happier 

I’m 53 and have been in the corporate sales setting since I was 28. After 25 years I am ready to walk away from it and get a less stressful job. Wife and I are debt free which is a huge plus - other than property taxes. I am not spending my last 10 years of working in a high stress, quoted / metric driven job any longer. I’m tired and burnt. Always worried about my job and this is not the way to live your life after 55.

this was incredibly written and shot! you are a magnificent storyteller! i’m a new grad and i haven’t been able to shake the feeling that i’ve been going through life in a trance, stuck in free fall by indecision. i’m starting a corporate tech job but i don’t even know if it’s what i want. i’ve worked my whole life toward some arbitrary pinnacle of success, getting into a “top” college, pursuing the interesting, in-demand major, and securing and a coveted job. convention was “easy” to strive toward because i didn’t have to make a commitment to myself. in the process i’ve entirely neglected my wellbeing. i’ve cucooned myself with what is comfortable while avoiding asking myself what i really want, what makes me excited. this video made me feel like i could actually feel alive again. the thought of finally seizing joy is terrifying- but you’ve made me want to try. thank you.

I made the same decision this year. I quit that stable job everyone looked up to me of having. But, I'd already been thinking about that for a year, so when I quit, I already landed the job where I actually wanted to be. Riskier but bolder, tired but more grateful, scared of the unknown but FREER. If someone dares to do something like what I'd done, it would be better to think of what you actually wanted to do and not neglect the responsibilities you have at the moment. If you don't have anything you want to do in particular, then I think it would be best to prioritize your healing. Yeah, it's a scary move but you honestly have to discuss with yourself why you need to have that change. Also, don't hesitate to express your thoughts to the trusted ones. In the end, you're still the one who should weigh everything before making the move. :')

I just put in my two weeks at my tech industry job after feeling super burnt out and realized it’s not the type of work I want to be doing, so I’m in the process of pivoting to do work that is more creatively and artistically aligned. I'm 45 a I finally quit my job and will be starting my own business! So freeing and exciting! Took me a lot of years and crying to make the decision, but my biggest fear is having to go back yo corporate world. I have 20 more years to work, I cannot spend them in a corporate job , feeling like a slave. I would rather work as a waitress. But I will work on my business - accounting services. I will be the one to make my schedule and I will take time for making sports outside everyday, watching the nature, gardening, and I will decide when I go on vacation, not when my boss lets me go.

I am 37 and quit my corporate job at 23 as well. In fact I was a little more than 23 1/2. The road hasn’t been easy. And I’m still working on myself and the things / fears that drive me and which I wish didn’t drive me. Finding our authentic selves is life long. You’re going and have embarked on a new journey that there is no roadmap for. Trust yourself and work on yourself so that you are as free as you can be. ❤

Really liked this video. So peaceful. I feel like I have been some kind of living dead too. Just gave notice today. Feels good. I have health problems and I don’t know if today is the easiest day or if there will be even easier days ahead. In case this is the easiest day I’ll have compared to the future, then I can’t waste my time feeling this much dread. Mental affects physical, eventually. I want my job to be a distant memory, something I say “huh, wasn’t that a weird time?” in about 10 yrs.

name's chris, im 30. im quitting the job in my hometown and moving to a city a couple hours over. austin tx. got a job lined up, will be living out my car for awhile. kinda crazy, but my soul's calling for it. took me years to pull the trigger, but i found myself back on this path time after time. id back out, out of fear. but i'm going in this week. you said something in the video about operating out of fear, and it resonated. hope all is well w you now!

Love this! Exactly the reason why I make my job work for me and not vice-versa. Been to over 60 countries at 24, ready to buy my first piece of real estate, and going for my graduate degrees (first in the family).

I quit my job last Fall & at first it was scary. It was hard taking that leap/1st step. Looking back i was so unhappy & 20 lbs heavier. I was using my degree but at what cost? My own mental health. Now i work in a factory & make $9 grand less per year, but the health insurance is way better than old job & I clock in & clock out. I loved your quote: " dont confine yourself to one path because you are capable of so much more", couldnt have said it better myself. Was using my Apparel Design degree & now I'm welding! Ive always loved working with my hands & would hate a desk job. I'm curious what job you had that was killing your soul, what are u doing now? 🤔

I love this narrative. I'm quite a bit older now, but thought I share some experience life points. - With a lot of young adults, we were often steered into getting a higher education for a better future, or NOT. I'll leave the or NOT for another discussion. If you're not sure with what to do after high school, most will take the safer path, higher education, kicking that "what am I going to do with my life" can down the road, if the financial cost supports it. - Once you completed higher education, it's freaking scary to be released into the world and be self sustaining. Been there, done that. One is essentially trying to trade time for money, leveraging that college degree you earned for a good job potential. Time, at this point, is relatively cheap and money has a higher value because most don't have a lot of it. - If you are at a cross road here, where you're not happy with your career choices, and want a more carefree life, you maybe in trouble. It's ok to take risks and fail (you'll have time to recover), try new things, take a sabbatical, but don't leave things to fate. ALWAYS have a backup plan. - If you work hard to raise that initial "seed" money, invest wisely, you're setting future self up in a good place. - Fast forward (10, 15, 20 years), once you have enough "seed money" and investing, you'll let money work for you (instead of you working for money). Time becomes more precious and a career job making money becomes less important. You'll have *choices* for more work/life balance and less stress. - My own life path was I put my head down and work hard at an initial high stress job for about 10 years, knowing I had an exit strategy. After that, I was in a much better position for work/life balance, and ultimately, retired early. Retire early just means you're financially independent and can do pretty much what you want to do, not sitting around sipping Mai Tai =). Good luck to our Gen Z and wish you the best with success and happiness in life.

Why am i crying 🥹🥺😭

I am currently a graduating marketing student. I really dont like the idea of having a 9-5 job, I experienced it during my internship and I really feel like I am dying, I typically can only function in certain times of the day and more or less accomplish 1-2 tasks for that day. I also have adhd therefore I create some work that arent from my current tasks just to supplement my brain for some dopamine. Is it really okay to think like this, to go independent after graduating? or should I just dive in to the 9-5 until I burn my soul off?

Help! I feel like I'm starting losing my mind. I quit my last job since it was a disaster. And now I'm in the new one and it is even worse. The anxiety and depression I've had since the last job got even more stack up wit the new ones. I was so good at my job and I was thriving back in 2021. Now, I often do mistakes at my work and then my boss starting to annoy me. Then I got anxious and do more mistakes. And it becomes a never ending spiral and now my boss seems to hate me. I end up anxious and depress now. I tried therapy and still can't happy. Because of what happen in lately, I also lost my 2 best friends. I don't even know what is happening to me. I have no wins. not even a tiny one.

So this is gonna happen to millennial doctors. I don’t know a single fellow doc around my age who is not burned out, angry, and borderline depressed. I think we are all saving money, investing, and lowering lifestyles. Which means in 10-15 years, there’s gonna be a gigantic plummet in doctors and the US is gonna be fucked. When it’s an abusive finance job and everyone quits, society is gonna be more or less ok. When an entire generation of doctors quits? Be careful, don’t slip on that rock, maybe wear a mask everywhere. Cuz the safety net is gonna disappear.
