Yup. Yowana is 💯 right. I am watching, reading and appreciating this supportive community. Thanks for adding your kindness to help create a great space out here on the interweb. 💕
I love my Takumi Sen 8s, same colorway as yours. I have 292 miles on mine. I have been coming back from a minor knee injury and have been going back to this shoe once or twice a week. It’s a shoe that gets me back in my normal stride. Congrats on the 10K PR! My next 10K race is next Thursday night where I’m looking to go sub 42 (current PR 42:41 set in Feb ‘24).
A shoe you are absolutely going to want to get is the Mizuno Neo Vista. Got it early through a homie and it’s a contender for shoe of the year. Beats the skyward for me!! Excited to see this on the channel soon
It might partly be the cold meds I took, but this is marvelously entertaining, thank you @yowana. Your reviews are simultaneously the most thorough and full of personality. I picked the sen 9, boston 12 and pro 3 up at a discount, they're great for the price, but I use the sen 9 the least. It's very unstable for my wedge shaped wide feet, so I just use the sen on the track. The boston is the most useful by far. The pro 3 is a fun monster truck for race day, for me it's a wild ride.
I'm in the UK where Parkrun is a big thing, a weekly timed 5k often around a park. My peer group and I treat it as a race and it's usally on a twisty turny course, the Takumi Sen is perfect for this, and gets alot of use being picked for a weekly 5k race. Lightweight, snappy and great for tight corners 👍
my strategy for tight corners is to take them as wide as possible. i can do 180 turns without much slowing down even with chunkier shoe. granted, i'm not competitively fast so i guess it will be harder for fast runners
I hadn't thought about using them on off-road terrain but that would make them a better buy for sure. Have you tried any of the other 5k racers for that?
@@supwell Yes, the first Puma Fast-r (v.1) same reason as not the full 40mm stack, so easier to corner and handle canal towpath etc, so you're not feeling like you're up on rails. Puma a bit heavier but slightly more pop, it equals them out really. Both nimble and disappear on foot without all that stack and bulk!
I used the sen 10’s for my local park run in the uk for the first time today and they felt great, it’s mostly on uneven twisty tarmac paths, with a few long straight’s and a lot of people to weave in and out of, have used endorphin pro 3’s and puma deviate Niro elite 2, which also did a good job (puma best in the winter) The sens felt better for the twisty bits, reminded me of my old saucony fast twitch 9 🙂🏃♂️
The super high stack marathon shoes are great for hours of cruising on wide open marathon courses. But for stuff like parkruns and tempos around the neighborhood, all that stack makes sharp turns, hopping curbs, and dodging cars really awkward. I picked up the Takumis for $110 (less than my daily trainers) and they're the perfect tool for some jobs. More fun to run short distances in and cheaper/mile than the Adios Pros... makes them pretty easy to justify in my rotation.
That's a great point - might be a good shoe for a city runner who needs to navigate a lot of those turns and obstacles. Out in the burbs I have nice wide lanes to run through. Also got my Takumi Sen 8 for $100 and it's one of the best buys I've had - and they had that sale going for a while. Hopefully they'll cut the price on the 10 soon
I had internal ankle laceration and had to go a 1/2 size up in the TS10 and I am TTS US M9 in the B12 and the Pro3. I set a PB in a 10K race this weekend by almost 90 seconds using the Asics Metaspeed Edge +
Here we go. I’m trying to BQ in the 60-64 bracket this year. You have me convinced that I should get the durable fun Cielo X1 to crack 3:30 in comfort. What say you?
that's a great choice for the BQ! if you're looking for fun that's definitely the way to go. my other top pick would be saucony endorphin pro 4 - soft, bouncy, durable and really enjoyable to run in but the cielo X-1 definitely has more of that fun factor
I bought the Nike Streakfly in sale and it isn't the shoe for me. Lightweight, but very unstable with only Zoom X and no plate. Sure the stack height is low, but still unstable even though I'm a short distance type of person. I also bought the Vomero 17 on sale (mainly for my shifts in the ER and not running) and preferred the Vomero on the one run I did in it before use it for work.
Hello do you recommend the Takumi Sen 10 for people who have slightly wider feet? I'm a size 10.5 and I have a Boston 12 which I absolutely love. I want a flat racer instead of a Pro 3
I got the bostone 12 and 1 thing I like about the upper is that its super easy to clean and maintain clean. You can easily wipe dirt off. I’d assume the tukmi 10 is the same.
Strange, for me, the Takumi Sen fits like a dream and I have absolutely no pain. I have the boston 12 too and it feels awful, my heel slips, the eyelits dig in to my foot, the top of the laces dig into my foot. I guess a lot of the time it's just if they work for you, rather than them being inherently bad or uncomfy.
I used to do a lot of time trials when I was cycling. I saw a lot of guys that spent and extra couple $1,000 on their bikes then added some $1,000 rims to try to shave a few seconds and move up the Strava rankings, while I was riding my aluminum bike. To me, that's like buying a different shoe for every type of run. I am trying to find shoes that work for me for 95% of what I do and, hopefully, have the ability to pick up the pace a little if I feel like doing that. I'd like to set a PR but I'm just not going to break the bank to do it. Therefore, I agree that the Boston 12 sounds like a great option for a 10K even if I could shave off 3-5 seconds per mile with the Takumi Sen. For me, the Deviate Nitro 2 has been that shoe, which has a lot of similar qualities. I have to admit, I do have my eye on the Neo Vista though.
Totally agree. I think most ppl will be much happier with either of the shoes you mentioned or something like the rebel v4 or Hoka Mach 6. And I can't wait to try that new mizuno too!
The lighter shoes may be the standard but they do not have the longevity of the heavier ones. For most people who need to budget around one or two pairs of shoes, you would sacrifice 50g of weight in order for your shoes to last an extra 6 months.
I have the TS8, which is not all that different from the TS10. I agree with you that it is not very comfortable. It's okay for the 2.5 mi loop that I run, and even for that I would say it's hit or miss. Some days it feels good, other days it feels pretty flat. The VF3 is lighter and better cushioned, so putting price aside, for me it's a no-brainer for the VF3. Lightstrike Pro gets better as it gets thicker, though. The Adios Pro 3, although firm, is pretty good and what I use most often, but really you have to go up to the Prime X Strung (1st gen) to have a Lightstrike Pro shoe that is genuinely fun and not punishing to run in. Completely different category of running shoe compared to the Takumi Sen, but really, nothing else in my collection really holds a candle to the PXS1. It's worth every penny.
I usually opt for shoes with more foam for long-distance running, like marathons, and I also prefer them for shorter runs because they’re gentler on my legs. Since I used to run in barefoot shoes about a decade ago and my legs often felt sore, I’m curious if this shoe is tough on the legs and if it’s similar to the Nike Flyknit series in terms of foam cushioning.
Very nice running man! Like the 3 shoe/foam comparison too. Btw what is that witchcraft know you do on your shoes that make the laces disappear and all tidy?
I'm still waiting and hoping my TS10 after more miles is going to give me something back. Super light and nimble but don't expect it to give you a free ride. They're not responsive at all. Only using for intervals at the moment. I get more back from my saucony speeds with 400 miles on them even.
yeah agreed man - you've really gotta put some power into them to get something back. i felt the lightstrike pro in the takumi sen 8 was bouncier without having to put so much force into it. maybe it'll break in but it's hard to get a lot of miles on the shoe since it's not the most comfotable
I actually threw on my old escalante's that have almost 600 mi on them the other day and I found them to be super comfortable even more so than my relatively new Adidas SLs. Maybe that just has to do with needing to break in the SLs a little bit more but they're pretty comfortable shoes. For the longest time they were my only running shoes and I set my half marathon PR in them. But I agree, I don't see the value proposition for the Takumi Sen's. They seem too heavy and finicky to make sense for short and fast racing.
Nice vid man! I personally own the Adios Pro 3 and love them for short and fast workouts, love the bounce and response they give. How would you compare to Takumi Sen 10 for 5km/10km? Are they too overly stacked or do you reckon you could get equal performance or even a faster time possibly for the shorter distance run?
I ran two 5k races within a few weeks of each other, one of them in the takumi sen (21:10) then the other a few weeks later in the adios pro 3 (20:30). Both of them were equally effective on that distance and the times do not reflect the shoes' ability, but the TLDR of this would be the adios pro 3 was more bouncy and definitely more cushioned, leaving my legs feeling better, and I did not feel the difference in weight of the takumi made it more advantageous at the 5k distance over the AP3. Got another 5k coming in a few weeks, and it's gonna be AP3 for a sub 20!
For me, the Takumi Sen 8, 9 or 10 are my best shoes for competing in half marathons. Don't be limited by the information that they are specific to 5k and 10k. And I'm not a light runner.
I mentioned this toward the end of the video but I ran a half marathon in the Takumi Sen 8 and it was a horrible experience 😂 I personally prefer more cushion especially since you can now find higher stacked shoes at a lighter weight (Asics Metaspeed sky/edge Paris and Nike Vaporfly)
@@supwell I understand you, because being younger (a few generations) than me, you always ran in shoes with a lot of cushioning. I'm a veteran runner and I can guarantee you with absolute certainty that well over half of the 29 marathons (42km) I've completed were run in shoes with a much smaller midsole and with material far inferior to the LightStrike Pro. And I just don't use a Takumi Sen, in a marathon, because I have the ADIOS Pro and I would opt for it, just because it is wider and more stable (important in the final phase when the footing is no longer firm). But I realize that the new generations have a different idea of the level of hardness/softness. A firmer midsole like Adidas allows for high performance even without a full carbon plate, as firmness generates performance by itself. Take the case of Nike, the ZoomX is too soft, and although they have a super light sneaker like the Vapor Fly Next, their Elite athletes opt for the Alpha Fly which is heavier, but gets more return due to the firmness of the air sphere/ gas in the front part of the shoe. The market is increasingly asking for softer sneakers, undoubtedly more comfortable, but with less performance. For me, the LightStrike Pro is right on point and is the best midsole on the market.
@@josemaioralyeah exactly man! It's all about our reference points. Although I did enjoy the low profile Nike free runs for short jogs to the gym in the 2010s. But we are in agreement that Lightstrike pro is one of the best foams out there! I love the density. ZoomX just doesn't do it for me
I like how versatile the endorphin pro 4 is. If I weren't testing shoes I probably buy the Takumi Sen 8 and would use a shoe like the endorphin pro 4 for all my races. Or if I were to get a second racer for short distances would go with one of the Asics shoes or hoka rocket x2
Thanks. Im actually waiting to buy the metaspeed sky paris but no stock in UK. i own the pro 4 love it for marathon pace stuff was just curious how u found it for shorter faster distances @supwell
I stopped using Adidas shoes cos the upper is a nuisance and the cushioning takes way too long to soften up..when it softens up I can feel the rods thru the foam..also have broken the rods in both the pro2 and pro3..I'm not a super fan of the Saucony pro4 but it does work well for those short races and the upper is lite years ahead of the Adidas adios line..good video to get me up for a 4hr long run today..😊
I’ve got the og prime x strung size 43 1/3 which true to size and perfect fit for me, then i bought the boston 12 with the same size and fits lil bit roomier and longer for me, then i bought takumi sen 10 and need to half size up to 44. Would you recommend me which size i should follow for the adios pro 3? 😂
Pro 3 feels like it fits the same as the Takumi Sen 10 to me. I have all three shoes in the same size though and don't have any issues with the Boston 12 roominess
I keep seeing “try the streakfly.” With this review, you will not like it. Envision the very light invincible 3 with more ground feel 😬. I love it for a treadmill run or track repeats ( no more than 6 miles)
janji 5 inchers! they're called the AFO middle shorts - i have them in a bunch of colors and patterns. great shorts for the summer. bit pricy but i managed to get mine on sale at REI janji.com/products/ms-5-afo-middle-short
I have my 5K PR in TS8. I had bought 3 pairs at 60% discount and just retired a pair and rotated my racing pair to speed interval workouts and 3rd pair to racing. At the price I got, the shoe justifies itself. At $180 it is hard to make a case as a dedicated 5k/10k racing shoe when VF3 and Metaspeed Sky/Edge Paris is so light but there is more likelihood that TS will be found at good discount levels.
@@laneharrison3162 Footlocker’s black Boston 12s for $70 are also the Duramo SL. If you zoom in on the heel lock, it says Duramo SL and LightMotion on the midsole.
Asics: check the weight on that skinny boy... Nike: yep, looks light, but not light enough.. Saucony: agreed guys.. Adidas: everyone knows the rules; Evo 1 baby. Asics: :( Nike: :( Saucony: :(
Takumi Sen is not for you! Also, the more i watch your vids, i see you are very enthusiastic about running shoes but i don't think you are really perceptive! I am expressing here....but thats how i feel about lot of your vids, sorry! You need to get your act together and cut the length of your vids down!
@@supwelldon’t sweat it Yowana. Some people only spew hate, criticism, negativity…because that’s what they’ve received in life (like an aggressive stray dog). Deep deep inside, they might be good. Anyway, thanks for your deep dive content as always and congrats on the grad!!
That's not true. I own many different stack heights of shoes and enjoy most of your reviews. I praised some barefoot lower stack shoes. You're the butthurt sensitive person that takes cheap shots at people who enjoy a broader spectrum of trainers. Calling out the "barefoot mafia" for no other reason than you're defensiveness and ego. Definitely unfollowing now. You're a closed minded ego driven person. Can't take any criticism without a butthurt retort
