Hey everyone, Jacob Knowles here with a glimpse into the less glamorous side of lobster fishing. This week, we did something that might seem crazy at first-we ran our lobster boat aground! But there's a method to our madness. Without access to a fancy dry dock, we resort to the old-fashioned way to perform essential maintenance and repairs on our vessel.
In this video, we're taking you through the entire process of beaching the boat at low tide, a time-tested technique that allows us to work on the underside of the boat safely and effectively. It’s a critical task that we need to undertake a few times a year to ensure our boat stays in top shape and to troubleshoot some recent issues.
Join us as we dive into the reasons behind our boat's reduced speed, going only 2 knots, and the mysterious wobble that's been making our days at sea even more challenging. We're in a race against the tide, working meticulously to identify and fix problems before the water returns and risks tipping the boat over.
It's a tense, tough, and muddy job, but it’s absolutely essential for the safety and efficiency of our operations. You’ll see the ingenuity and resilience it takes to maintain a lobster boat without the modern conveniences of a shipyard.
So, if you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes realities of lobster fishing and want to learn how these maritime crafts are maintained through sheer grit and resourcefulness, this episode is for you.
