Jack Edwards is one of my favourite RU-vidrs, but his recommendations never worked for me. I just finished reading Foster and I also didn't feel anything.

Some books are more dependent on style or ideas presented than by plot, but then if the plot is missing the book may become a chore ;)

Re: Finlay Donovan, I loved it and it's sequels and found them funny, but if you didn't then I wouldn't recommend the sequels. They're more of the same (which obviously I loved, but I doubt you will). If want to try another comedic mystery, I'd recommend Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson. It's got very different vibes from Finlay Donovan and a different type of comedy/voice.
