Here's my book review of Britney Spears' memoir The Woman in Me, which I think it is a fascinating portrait of a public figure we feel like we know so well, but is only now able to tell her side of the story.
I don't think there are too many spoilers here, I don't really mention anything that hasn't been widely reported on already, but be warned some of the topics mentioned are very heavy. I don't discuss these in detail but I do mention them in passing.
Here's ‪@jack_edwards‬ video on ghostwriting, if you want to dive more deeply into that topic:
• the complicated ethics...

00:00 intro
00:35 on my radar (what it means to me)
01:39 it's britney bitch... or is it? (ghostwriting)
06:16 born to make you happy (early life)
08:19 not a girl, not yet a woman (relationships)
11:47 overprotected (conservatorship)
13:35 her prerogative (justice)

Thank you so much for watching.

Excellent Review! I’m new to your channel and this was the first video I watched. There is a huge waiting list for Britney’s book at my local Library. I’m number 68 on the list and wondered if it’s worth the read and after watching your review, I’m very interested to read it.

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the review, and hope that waitlist comes down quickly. It’s quite a quick book so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Completely agree such a good book. Despite everything she’s gone through I am pleased this book was able to empower her and give her her voice back. Thank you for sharing your review with us. Great to hear your thoughts as always.

Thanks for watching, Charlie. Glad you also enjoyed it! It’s amazing that for someone so in the public eye there was so much that went on that we had no idea about. Hoping she gets some closure from the book.

I'm a good decade older than you, so I don't feel like I grew up with Britney but I've always rooted for her. Even if, when she emerged in that school girl uniform, I was a nascent feminist trying to hate her but who could? . . . . Baby One More Time STILL makes me drive fast. I remember being in a train station in Wrocław, Poland in the middle of the night and that song was playing. I also heard Justin Bieber while looking at the terra cotta warriors in Xian, but that's another story. And that conservatorship was so bewildering. It made me so angry. I don't think most people realize what a conservatorship is - it's a legal finding of incompetence. As an attorney, I see it in cases of true mental incapacity, not someone who could do what she did while having no legal right to make her own decisions. Her whole life has been tragic. I'm glad she seems to be doing things her way. I'm sure the publishers would have loved for her to go out and promote this, but she didn't. She did one cover story for People, but it would seem they have her free reign over it, because she chose her own clothes and the location for the shoot - a beach in Tahiti. I haven't read this yet, though I do have a copy. I'm happy for her. I hope her life is nothing but exactly what she wants from this point forward.

Thank you for sharing! The conservatorship truly feels like it was misused, and it’s so sad. I really hope she finds happiness from here on out. Need to hear the Bieber story one day! Maybe when he releases his inevitable memoir 😂

Agree regarding Jack Edward’s video about celebrity memoirs & ghost writers anddddd that one shouldn’t have to be a boss writer in order to tell their story

It was great to see him dive into an interesting topic. And I’m glad she’s been able to get support to tell her story fully. Thanks for watching!
