AHHH I READ THE SHANKS / ACE PART WRONG!! Kicking myself for misreading it, I thought Shanks wanted Whitebeard to “stop” Ace as in like hurt or kill him, but obviously he just wanted Whitebeard to stop Ace going after Blackbeard. UGH I’m such a fool!! Thanks AniMarko for opening my eyes to that. I feel better now. I’ll just chalk it up to me being overprotective of my favourite non-Straw Hat!

Yeah, basically Shanks is saying that Blackbeard is far to dangerous for Ace alone, using his scar as proof of it. And to be fair, Garp says Shanks is one of the 4 Emperors, same as Whitebeard, and when they clashed they splitted the sky; his sole presence made a big chunk of Whitebeard's crew pass out; Whitebeard mentions that the dude used to duel Mihawk, the strongest swordsman in the world. His PP size grew a few miles in these chapters. And without him being reckless, Blackbeard managed to cut his face. That's scary. And Shanks already had the scar when Luffy was a kid, so it was before that, way before Blackbeard got the Dark Dark Fruit

Also if u look at when Shanks entered the Ship u see the effect of him being there is and u can compare that to the look he gave the sea monster when it took his arm in Luffy's flashback. As for What's to come ur in for some emotional moments be sure to have ur tissues

If you noticed, Luffy asks Robin to explain about his dad. Just a small detail about Luffy and Robin's dynamic: Robin really understands how Luffy's mind works. Luffy calls to Robin to explain things that he has trouble understanding or remembering. And Robin explains it to him the way Luffy understands. (e.g., when Luffy can't recall who someone is, Robin is able to describe that person the way Luffy pictures that person in his brain).

During the Alabasta arc Ace explained to Luffy that he was hunting Blackbeard, because he killed a member of Whitebeard's crew. I think that's the information you're missing to make that whole Shanks-Whitebeard talk make sense.

Hey Gavin! I’m not sure if you noticed this detail or not, but Zoro told Luffy that Ussop should only be able to come back if the FIRST words out of his mouth was an apology. So it wasn’t that Luffy and Zoro couldn’t hear him because of the battle, they purposefully pretended they couldn’t hear him until he apologized. I really love that detail. I’m so glad to be a member of you channel and get to watch these reviews early I really enjoy them! Cant wait to watch you continue your journey!

Post Ennies lobby expands the world of one piece so much. It is like the perfect conclusion for the saga, where after the gut-wrenching Ennies Lobby, we are reminded by the author that the world and its intricacies are just now starting to unfold themselves. I always love the moment whenever the new bounties are announced. There is such magic in those moments.

“I think this Usopp moment is my favourite moment of this arc, even above Robin crushing Franky’s balls” … I mean, fair enough 😂 It was kinda sad to realize that when they go with every straw hats hometown people, obviously Robin is the only one who does not have one. (It was a nice touch to put the Vivi reaction). Also, I love her conversation with Aokiji. It makes him even more interesting and gives that relationship another layer. And I love Garp. He’s literally a 70 year old marine Luffy.

I LOVE that even though Zoro puts up a tough front and says "don't let him back on the crew unless the first words out of his mouth are an apology", he loves Usopp and wants Usopp back on the crew just as much as anyone else. He pretends not to hear Usopp until Usopp says, "I'm sorry"

@@wesleywyndam-pryce5305 those 3 sentences aren't even cohesively related Aokiji have been monitoring her moves up until Enies Lobby, case and point: his debut/introduction episode, then in post Enies Lobby he told Robin to live on with her new crew you try to bend the facts "not killing Robin =/= good" while in reality his every moves are watched by the World Government, not goin to explain further because of spoilers there are no good marine? I'll do you one better: there are no good people everyone has their own values and justice, this have been one of the on going themes in OP and if you blatantly say there are no good marine I doubt we are watching the same show/reading the same manga

Shanks warns Whitebeard about Blackbeard and asked him to stop Ace from fighting Blackbeard because he thinks Blackbeard has some mysteries that can harm Ace. The scar on his face proves that shanks was never injured even while fighting Mihawk but only by Blackbeard alone

About ship names: Ship names in JP are formatted as "insert name here"-Go. The -Go isn't really a part of the name, it's just something that's added to the end of ship names. The Going Merry in Japanese is written as Going Merry-Go. And the characters sometimes shorten that to just Merry-Go. The English translation of the manga kept that, even though it doesn't really... work the same in English. It's kind of similar to when some translators leave Japanese honorifics in manga or anime, except here it's just the one case that's retained. Similarly, the Thousand Sunny is Thousand Sunny-Go. Characters will sometimes shorten that to Sunny-Go. But I don't think the English translation keeps doing that?

Describing Post Ennies Loby as the turning point of the series is pretty accurate. Think its where most people agree it transitions from an incredible adventure story to an epic on par with the all time greats. Water 7 and Ennies loby prove Oda can deliver on writing in a way that exceeds readers expectations, and post Ennies loby is essentially the promise from him that we're still just getting started. Its an incredible feeling

One thing you should remember that you also met 2 other members of D clan. Monkey D dragon, and Monkey D Garp. Plus you also met Dragon during lougetown, he was the one who rescued luffy from smoker. You have also met Garp, he is the one who trained Coby and Helmmepo during cover chapters.

You might wanna consider having someone moderate these comments for spoilers. Nothing too bad in here for now, but one piece fans sometimes get a little too excited and will hint at things a little more than they should, or preemptively try to defend/hype up arcs which can kinda suck if you're the kinda person who likes to go in with no expectations. Theres also a lot of really big moments coming up that are really easy to spoil, even if only accidently, or by hinting too much at certain things. Your community seems pretty chill, so u should be alright, but still worth considering if it sounds feasible to you.

We finally get the payoff for one of my favorite background jokes in the series. We finally meet Michael and Hoichael, "the menace from the backstreets", but it turns out they're just two 11 year old brothers lmao. We first heard the Train Station Officers thinking that they were responsible for shooting Iceberg, and later on Rocket Man, Tilestone and Peeply Lulu thought so as well before Paulie told them it was CP9.

Keep in mind, much like Long Ring Long Land was a "cooldown arc" for Skypiea, Thriller Bark is a "cooldown arc" for Water 7. A lot of people say it's a step down in quality (and there's good reasons for that) but a lot of disappointment happens here because it doesn't "live up to" Water 7. If you go into it understanding this, I'm absolutely certain you'll LOVE most of Thriller Bark. Also regarding the Merry Go/Going Merry/Thousand Sunny names and their translations. This is just stuff I've inferred, but it seems the suffix "-go" is added to ship names in Japanese. The equivalent to this is how you'll see American and European ships have prefixes like S.S. or R.M.S. So the ship in One Piece is just called "Merry" but the Japanese language has the characters call it the "Merry-Go". Some translators kept it as Merry Go, some changed it to Going Merry. You may hear it if you ever watched the subbed version of the anime, but I believe the crew even calls this new ship "Thousand Sunny-Go" or "Sunny-Go" when referring to it more formally.

In german the going merry is called "Flying Lamb". It is in the german translation nevertheless the english term. Fortunately the Thousend Sunny is in german translation also Thousend Sunny.

I had the misfortune of getting spoiled on stuff when I was new including some huge moments which is a shame because this manga is so absolutely fantastic to experience without knowing things. Another brilliant piece of foreshadowing from Oda: he introduced Water 7 and the Puffing Tom and built an entire saga around it, all in service of that one scene where we see that puberty hit Coby like a *goddamn train*

The point about four emperor and the warlord. Emperor is just a title the people give to a very strong pirate that their pirate crews essentially become their own nation in content against the world government. And at this time there are four of them. World government made a warlord system by giving immunity to strong pirates that they think could help them fight against one of the emperor.

It was an emotional and hype name reveal for me too 45:20 imagine reading this story when it published the chaptery week to week... 47:30 we just want to share the pain and anticipation with others :) 49:40 sometimes I think so too! Personally, despite loving One Piece as a whole immensely, those post-arc chapters are on another level. Nothing like finishing an amazing battle and Oda dropping lore after reveal after twist after side story. And these only get better as you advance in the manga!!! 600 chapters later and Oda it's still amazing

I love the Koby reveal in Post Enies-Lobby, he has been my favorite character in the series ever since. A real zero to hero guy, shows you that no matter how puny you start out as, you can make something out of yourself and make a difference. All the revelations in this ark are amazing, but that one is my favorite! Glad you liked it as well!

Oda is so mysterious with much of the story that any real answers, even to questions you didn't know to ask, feel like monumental revelations. Also he is great at showing you the answer, but only later giving you the context to understand it in hindsight. Like Garp's cover pages or Dragon saving Luffy in Loguetown.

I love how you figured out why the next arc is Thriller Bark just from Post Ennies Lobby. And another reason why Jaya arc is important. It foreshadowed this confrontation in Post Ennies Lobby. The way Oda just gives hints so early before the next arc or two.

49:51 "Honey, you've got a big storm coming." Honestly, I vividly remember reading this particular arc live when I was, like, 11 or 10. (Started watching One Piece way way back in 2002 but I can't remember when I started reading the manga.) This was maybe my first time in One Piece just being bombarded with bomb after bomb, chapter after chapter and my 10 or 11 year old brain couldn't handle it. After the banger that is Water 7 and Enies Lobby, Oda-san just perfectly put the icing on the cake with this little gem of an arc. Hold on to your hat for the next few arcs, I promise it'll be a one hell of a rollercoaster.

Post Enies Lobby definitely hits different. When I first read it, I had such a hard time accepting Thousand Sunny cause I love Merry and it felt like they were replacing her (she can never be replaced!!). Also, notice that both Shanks and Whitebeard use swords (or varients of it) and they're both some of the strongest people in the world. Zoro's dream is to be the strongest swordsman in the world and while it's to defeat Mihawk because Mihawk currently holds that title, I wonder if Shanks and Whitebeard are also considered swordsmen and therefore Zoro must be stronger than them to fulfil his dream. It's something I thought about often. Ahhhhhhhh I can't wait for you to start reading thriller bark. Even now, years after I've read that arc, I keep revisiting a specific moment from there. Although water 7 and ennies lobby might be my fav arcs of all time, I have a weird soft spot for thriller bark. Can't wait!!!!

The emperors represent the largest pirate threats in the world. The idea is that the seven warlords in combination with the Marines are strong enough to keep the emperors from moving to do anything crazy. So if the scales tip towards the emperors, the government is afraid that one of the emperors will then make a move.

Do you remember Dragon? We have met him before, in Logue Town, the one who saved Luffy from Smoker back then. Things always come back around in One Piece. Ace has been on a mission to hunt down blackbeard since we met him in Alabasta for crimes against the crew. Shanks is trying to get Whitebeard to stop Ace because Blackbeard is dangerous enough to leave that scar on his face. For what reason besides Ace life is in danger, who knows. Sky splitting looks very cool

10:15 if you remember, back in Drum, when there was that flashback with Vivi and Wapol during one council of kings called "reverie", the main topic discussed there was how Dragon was a threat to the world government and each individual kingdoms. 22:00 Did you process that Shanks and Buggy were apprentices on Roger's ship? 30:50 there is a special episode that aired along with a movie where they show all the parts of the sunny, however it's better if you wait a few sagas before checking it out because there will be spoilers. The blueprints of the ships were also included in volume 46, I believe. The "post-saga" arcs in One Piece are sooo good and they keep getting better. It's really where all the world-building pay off.

Thriller Bark is a bit of a slow down in terms of stakes and world building, but still super fun and has some great moments. The stretch of Arcs after that, however, is what solidifies one piece as my favourite story ever!

Go is a suffix for like battle ships in Japan (as far as I understand). Merry Go and Going Merry are both right. Going Merry Go is actually the full thing. And Sunny Go is another name for the Thousand Sunny.

You mean a "Sea Train" to pain. You know you're hooked when post Enies Lobby gets you going. It means you're so invested in the world. Oda just build a restaurant and the next dish compliments the previous dish and its like a mouth orgasm for the eyes. The next arc is kinda a Palate Cleanser (Like Jaya & Long Ring Long Land), but it still deep. [Despite Nothing Happened] Franky is indeed the most emotional. Truly evading the cold Cyborg trope with a warm bubble (from cola) Cyborg that wears his heart on his sleeve. Nice to see you enjoying some classic ball humor. Man I hope Oda doesn't do anything that makes you rethink that its the best thing you ever read. Because One Piece has everything: Pretty men, pretty women, humor, tragedy, feelings of love, feelings of omg DIE, you might think this is it, but Oda is like, But wait there's more, can I interest you in this character? There's a reason why the community refers to him as "GOda"

Teach is Blackbeard's name, Blackbeard is a nickname. And remember Ace has been searching for Blackbeard since they showed Ace in Drum Island. Blackbeard was in Drum Island and was the one who made Wapol run away to become a temporary pirate.

Eneru isn’t just in space. He’s on the moon. And do you recall a diorama of what seemed like a planet with several orbs orbiting it in the library with the scholars of Ohara (chapter 392)? Were those moons? Planets? Both? What does the one piece universe look like? Seems important. Btw I don’t know any more than you do. It probably ties into the void century and what the one piece is tho

things you might have missed: garp is the one with the dog headpiece in koby and helmeppo's cover story, the one eating doughnut and was cut by morgan. his head was covered because garp appeared in one piece (romance dawn) one-shot and people might recognized him dragon first appeared in lougetown saving luffy against smoker. the guy in a cloak

Fun fact: Before his reveal in this arc, Garp (Luffy's grandfather) had been shown in previous versions of One Piece, such as "Romance Dawn", which was the name of the prototype for current One Piece. But in those versions he wasn't a marine, but *a very famous pirate* , and he was even the one who gave Luffy the straw hat and inspired him to follow his steps (he was basically Shanks). Since there was a risk of longtime fans recognising him even if he wore a marine uniform, to preserve the surprise until this revelation, Oda made him wear the dog hat during Koby and Helmeppo's cover story, so that those fans wouldn't notice Luffy's grandpa was a marine in the final version.
