Cy_Borg, as experienced by a gang of pirates. They get way too high on Ash and are washed up on the shores of Cy. And throw in the basic task resolution rule from Solitary Defilement for good measure.
Dude, your channel is slowly turning into one of my favorite channels on RU-vid. I'm still thinking about that video you made about the psychology of the shadow from Carl Jung, even tho I didn't make any comment on that video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
As someone who mostly has 5e stuff and a weekly game with other people, I want to solo to both use the stuff I collect and better learn the rules.... but I also want to try to run a game where the PCs aren't psychopaths that just kill everyone. That's the real reason I say I want to solo. I want to find out if it's possible to survive in D&D as a proper group of people. That and I want the monsters to act in their own self-interest as well rather than just running at swords until they die. Hell really is other people.
5e can be played solo, several folks have written books to help you with that. I bought 2 books and decided to go simpler rules and oracle's after reading the books. I realised simpler is what I am after for solo play, but one day I will go back and solo 5E. Basically I've a lack of confidence, but I'll grt there by doing it. 😊 Personal I want to be able to play Shadowrun solo sometime in the near future. When I was first buying Shadowrun books I was struggling to find folk willing to play alongside a girl. The editions have moved on now so I still can't find folk to play with the edition I've read. 🤷🏻♀️

Is that where we are now? We are all at home by ourselves in our little rooms playing RPGs by ourselves. Thank you for bringing us together on your channel.
In 8th grade I saw the AD&D cover of Curse of Strahd at my friend's house. I looked through it and was completely confused. He said he'd teach me the next weekend. I went back, so goddamn excited to learn this weird game inside of a book. I got to his house and he played EverQuest the entire time. This is why I solo.
Playing solo to own instead of rent hit real hard with me. I have only been a DM for other people for the entirety of my 15+ years of playing pen and paper rpgs. When I discovered solo play a few years ago I realized that what I really wanted was to finally be the player in a game. Being able to use my years of DM experience to enhance my solo play has been the most rewarding feeling I have ever had gaming. Even more so than a really really good group session. I dont know, there is just something about coming up with ALL of it alone that makes the cool bits that much cooler. Thanks for making me think of all this.
I solo play because I want to play a roleplaying game, but I'm middle-aged, and my friends are all busy. On the plus side, it does give me ideas for games that I can run once my friends get some free time.
Making peace with myself about no. '8' a couple of years ago has brought me into contact with a whole world of wonderful and interesting people as I follow my very dynamic interests.
I solo play for the escapism... and I'm learning to not be ashamed of that. Bills, taxes, family drama, dating nonsense, global warfare, inevitable sickness and death.... they'll all still be there when I finally slay the dragon or rescue the princess or whatever. For a short time I get be whoever I want wherever I want.... and that's liberating.
Technically, I'm a 5. It's the creativity that gets me. Constantly making new discoveries that were *right here all the time*, et. al.. But in my quiet heart of hearts, there's a whole lot of bonus here, too. I'm like Scrooge McDuck up in here, doing the backstroke in a swimming pool full of itch downloads, enjoying the The Thing Itself. And thanks for making that okay. :D
Idk if this is relevant, but when I tried solo RPG, it was not more interesting than me just walking around my room thinking about stuff (drawings, characters, plot), which is something I've been doing since I was a kid. It's weird but I'm used to it.
So, I took the bus over to The Dungeon Dive. I stood there on sidewalk and could see Daniel inside. Laughing, loving, crying. I remembered the wise words you imparted on me, “don’t you dare go there! If you do you are not welcome back!” I took your wise comments to heart. Tossed my Spider-Man costume in the trash can on the corner, and walked back. In the rain. Ashamed of myself. Thank you for this new video. It was great background entertainment while I was working on some DCC RPG art I got commissioned to do. 😁
I give the monsters a chance to run away. It helps me practice trying not hurt anyone . I think every monster's basic need is to survive and seek happiness. We are all similar in that aspect. That's Buddhist.
“We love to buy books because we believe we're buying the time to read them." --Warren Zevon. I think I'm the same way with games, I keep telling myself that I'll play it someday, but I never seem to find the time. I just received an update that my copy of "Moria: Through the Doors of Durin for the One Ring" should ship in the next two weeks and I swear this time will be different, I'm going to play this game!
Thanks for another great video Mr. Alone, I loved all the acceptance of reasons for doing things. Especially enjoyed the section on these characters in one’s head
You said a lot in this video that i relate to, these videos are very therapeutic for me, i find myself trying to fill a void with buying magic, warhammer, and looking into solo ttrpgs, i found myself not enjoying dnd with in previous groups i tried to play with, i want to play a game how i want to play it and whenever i want to play it, thank you for making these videos
Could you make a video on the whitebox ttrpg book/system thats the one i decided to go with and i have the urge to keep looking into other games like dungeon crawl classics and old school essentials despite never playing a session of whitebox yet
Ha! The comment about solo play to collect. Yeah that's me. I've spent hundreds of dollars on systems and support materials and rarely get myself to play.
Deborah on the Geek Gamer channel nailed this. She says "It's all play". Rolling up a character, reading through gaming material, crafting something for your tabletop that no one else will ever see or use, it all counts. If you play rarely, that might just be you. If you want to play more, I suggest you roll up a character or just create one that reflects your alter ego in the game world you're contemplating. Then just pick a situation to drop them into and go from there and see what develops. I started out that way because I felt awkward and my character is still with me 3 years later, he has banished demons, raise the Dead, undefeated an ancient curse that was creating problems in his own sect. He worships the god of the dead and madness. Do what's fun and don't worry about whether it counts as role-playing or not. Do what feels good for a while and you'll discover the reason you like to solo.
@@crapphone7744nice point. I think another problem I have is that I think I have to run a campaign. Maybe I just need to try some "one shots" just to start. It could even be west marches style where each one shot slowly adds to a world and things just build up over time
@@brads2041 I wouldn't even go that deep into it. Let it become what it wants to become. It's like all the advice you hear on World building, start small and let it grow organically. My game started when my character walked out of a building on a plane that was mostly volcanic ash with no terrain features cuz I couldn't think of any. 😅. Just remember the journey is the destination, which means you don't have to know where you're going.
That keyboard better be the old one from the IBM PC-AT. No other keyboard is worthy. In case that comment isn't clue enough, the reason I solo as I'm pretty much done with the beer and pretzel crowd and people doing dumb stuff in game.
Keep in mind that it's one of a set of six that was made for the Davos conference. If all six are ever brought together again and fondue has made at the same time using a secret mixture of cheese, you have opened the gate with the key and Yog Sothoth will come through and destroy the world.
Just wondering if you also occasionally play in a group? I agree: it's great to have solo as another option. I want to game more often than I can scare up a group. I really enjoy your videos and your humor as well. Thanks for being here.
Passing time that isn't screen based. I get migraines from too much screen time, so I need a hobby that isn't screen time. Heaven is solo peeple... For Sure!! Creativity/Inspiration. I realized I lost my ability to pretend and was struggling to just do something fun for the sake of the fun, for a variety of reasons. I feel it's important for me to try to rediscover that right now. Solo rpg is a way for me to do that. A conversation with myself... Wow. How did you get inside my brain?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 Like collecting stuff. Yup, I've completely become a dice goblin now. I scrounge to find lots of the Tails of Equestria My Little Pony RPG stuff cause a bunch of it is out of print. I've got a bunch of specifically solo games to try, to try to figure out what I actually really like and enjoy playing. ALL THE THINGS!! 🤣🤣🤣
Lately I have been solo roleplaying because I have loads of modules that I have never gotten to run and I want to play them, dammit. I played a mashup of Scarlet Heroes/Black Hack and ran through Sailors on the Starless Sea (DCC zero level funnel) last night. I really want to make a video on how I run through modules solo but I do not have the set up to record. One day. Anyway, love your channel once again. You cover a side of the solo rpg world that seemingly no one else covers. Thanks Mandrake.
The bait: psss, ey kid, come in, we will talk about solo rpg and dice rolling, it will be fun! The switch: locks the door after you enter "ok, you little sh*t, confess, you started to eat healthy and do sport because the girl you loved rejected you, am I right? Do not cry to me, I do not want your tears, I want THE TRUTH!!"
That's why I lift AND solo rpg. Do plenty of things that feed your own sense of achievement. Most people you encounter want your money or your attention, so spend on yourself and those committed to you first. Advice: Avoid those that engage you with someone else's marketing strategy, or continually put money in someone else's pocket. So no MMO's(or dating expensive women, lol). I mean, don't screw over your job, but don't pursue job skills that won't improve or benefit you. Learn a skill that makes life better for you, your neighborhood, or your close family. Not all these things at once, obviously, maybe just 3, one physical challenge, one mental outlet and one skill to develop. Maybe pick a 4th that will help other people(preferably not ones you work for and definitely not those you pay to entertain).
