I am Man Alone and I am never alone because I create whole worlds in my head and then just keep leveling up.
Find me as the voice of the Lamplighter in the incredible Solo RPG Thousand Empty Light by Alfred Valley: alfredvalley.itch.io/thousand-empty-light/devlog/637259/audio-recordings
I'm working on an RPG of my own called Museum of Humankind. It will be out...soon!
Almost ANY book looks good compared to 5e, though I did enjoy that brutal take down of the DMG. Mork Borg has some good stuff and is interesting to look at (like a messy car crash), but for actually using it, I'll stick to the plain text versions.
Just stumbled upon your channel and content today, as a newer solo rpg player i really appreciate you putting out these videos and content and from the few videos ive seen so far I find your philosophies and advice really helpful and encouraging. Definitely will follow along more.
In my own journey into rolo roleplay, I've found a method that works for me. At the beginning, I was quite stumped as to where to start. There was a particular game I started with (The Adventurer, I want to say it was called). It was journal-based - You rolled certain parameters and encounters and used them to inform your journal entry for that particular period of time or part of the journey. It worked for a bit until I got burnt out. I went cold on it all for a while, then came back with a vengence recently. My method works by reducing the amount I have to write during a session, mainly focusing on recording the outcomes of dice rolls related to specific questions/challanges. It encourages me to write as much or as little as I please while still moving the adventure along. It means you can prioritise the exciting and fun part (rolling the dice, interpreting the results, and playing the game), and minimise the tedious parts. Sometimes I feel like writing a bit more verbosely, but I don't hold myself to write paragraphs if I don't feel like it. Trying different system and reading broadly in different genres can really help get the creative juices flowing for your own adventures, too (GURPS supplements help a lot).
Awesome stuff 👍🏼 thank you for your work. The Jung videos strike a chord with me whenever i listen, and i really appreciate you putting yourself out there. It encourages me to look at my own shadow, as there are times i find it hard to accept him. Its been a process, but listening to stories like yours gives me the courage to keep trying.
Holy crap this whole video is a trip. Love Jung, and reading his work is always so cerebral in the best sense. There is a copy of the Red Book at my university library and paging through it is other worldly really. I've been really blessed to page through it in person, and honestly it was awesome to hear you talk about Jung books
In interviews with the author of the Wildsea, Felix mentioned the reason for choosing the horizontal layout was because he had only been reading stuff on an iPad (as he constantly travelled for work) and designed it to read well in that configuration. I think he also mentioned that he thinks the orientation gives the art more room to shine. Aside from that, the dragonfly rules are supposed to be the more GM-less rules and are usually recommended as the best implementation for solo-play.
I very recently discovered your channel, and all of your videos have quickly become my favorite thing to watch/listen to while I work. Trying to find videos for Across a Thousand Dead Worlds brought me here (your "how to play" videos are great!), but your content, approach, and cadence has made me stay. I also really look forward to your continued playthrough of ATDW (but no rush).
I just started playing this game and really enjoy Blackoath products in general! Also, you’re the only other person Ive heard referencing Nicholas Winding Refn! Thank you so much for being there man, you have enhanced my solo game playing!
I'm kinda sad. I thought I left a comment the other day, but I don't see it =( . It included comments on pencil sharpeners, powerful speeches, Pirate Borg and nicknames. I guess this will have to be the condensed version :)
Excuse my serial commenting. After this, I went to my local library to obtain The Hero With a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell. A perfect bridge from Jung to RPGs.
It's very sad how people on social media act in ways they would never act to a person if they saw them in real life. Personally, I watch your channel because I like your personality. I don't even know if i will get around to playing anymore solo games, but I look forward to listening to you. There are some people I watch purely for information. I would never leave a message telling them to get to the point, unless they specifically asked for constructive criticism, etc. Ignore those poopy-heads, please. 🧇🧇
