I watched this 911 series from the start. You went so far beyond what I thought you were going to do and it has turned out amazing. From a clapped-out s%# box to a fantastic example of a 996 turbo. So much labor and attention to the details. Expensive, yes, but hopefully worth it and definitely made me a subscriber to your channel. I’ve enjoyed watching it.

What did I take away from this video? It pays to be Matt Ross....The last Porsche I ordered from the factory (before my kids were born) was a 1996 993 Twin Turbo with a ton of upgrades such as an all carbon fiber interior. Beautiful car yes, but writing a check for over $126K was painful. Before you put pen to paper I imagined you spent well over $100K and including your labor, you did! Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this series and seeing you grow as a RU-vidr and video editor. Take a step back, pop a cold one and let it all sink in. Nicely done Mr. Ross.

Really appreciate the cost breakdown, it really puts into context the prices that I see online for 996's. Personally, considering everything you've done/upgraded to the car, I think its nicer than what I've seen on the market and still cheaper than a "clean" example all-in. Great job! I look forward to more Porsche content and whatever else you've got in store for us!

I do not care about the cost, you got into this eyes open. I personally think you have done an amazing job Matt. You have persevered with the build when at times it tested you and ultimately you have one of the best cars out there. It is tastefully restored (except those alloys🤣) and is credit to your efforts. One last point, think of what you have learned doing this restoration, the new skills which you can now carry to another project......? Great viewing for me too.

This one is very appreciated! You were not hiding any of the details and you are completely transparent on the costs. To be frank, not all of your tuning is my taste, but you are hands down one of the top 5 car channels I follow really consequently (with Mat Armstrong, Number27, JayEmm Tavarish being the other 4). You really deliver great content, I like your DIY approach and I like the Porsche 996 a lot (had one a few years back and still think of buying one again). I assume the Porsche 996 may be sold at some time... which is sad on the one hand but me being one of your followers hope that you will have a new project on the other hand, if that happens. Maybe another Porsche or something exotic (Lotus would be great as well... but maybe tough to handle). Keep going, I really check your channel every day for new content and I watch every episode from start to end with no skip. L-I-K-E!!

Love the car. Love the build series. All i have to say is the labor you put into the car is the fun part of owning and working on a project car. You can say that labor would have been expensive if you paid someone to do the work but it is more rewarding and satisfying doing your own work and saving all that money.

My channel doesn't have any sponsors and I am restoring a 2002 Carrera completely out of pocket. These cars are not meant to be flipped, that's for sure. Boxsters and Caymans can be easily flipped. I had my engine bored out to a 4.0, heads redone and interior completely restored and changed to grey/black. I bought the car for 15k in 2001 and know for a fact I put in at least that in parts and work. More like twice that if you count the work I personally put into restoring it and making these videos that make me squat. It won't sell for that either. This is certainly a labor of love, not profit.

I think you did good on this car and the fact you recorded all of the repairs and replacement will bring the value of this car way up! Have to admit I didn't like this car that much when you first bought it home. It was in horrible condition but now that you made it better than ever, this car is freaking awesome!

I wasn’t crazy about the new wheels BUT they are way better than black wheels. As I said to my son when I purchased Black wheels for his cars for Christmas, it looks like your driving around with no hubcaps on your car. Your new wheels are growing on me. I’m older than you by a bunch so a modern Fuchs wheel would be my choice to give that beautiful car a vintage look.

@matthewwain9958 Год назад
Bear in mind, that right now you have an arguably better car than stock, for less money than a stock car. Also bear in mind the upgrades you would have had to spend on a 'decent' stock car anyway. OK, guessing now before video starts (Pausing at 3:50 : Parts $33000 (that includes the cost of the spray job), so total including car = $71k. (I was initially going to guess 25k on parts, but then remembered you had it sprayed as well). EDIT2: I got to 10:58, and realized that I am not including cost of tools, so for the purposes of my guess, I'm not including any tools you bought, like jack stands since you can use them on other cars. EDIT3: Ah.. you included tool cost :( booo. lol. EDIT4: Just watched the figure reveal. Are you including double costs for things like wheels and tires because you bought two sets? EDIT5: OK, you did account for parts sold or too be sold... so cool. I was still way off. Conclusion: Was it worth it? Heck yes! You have a very nicely sorted car now, with only things like the erm... engine and trans to really worry about now lol. I bet it will handle and perform wayyy better than a stock turbo as well.

Wooow didn't expect that. Although most of the pricing felt about right , 2 items on that list made me scratch my head a lot. First the paint job. How that could be a 10k considering you had a big discount and this colour isn't anything fancy. Its probably not even metallic paint so how? Second item the rims. 15k? Don't get me wrong they look nice but not 15k nice. Rotiform DAB Silver w/ Polished Lip cost less than 6k. ( Not many wheels can look better on 911)And you had discount on them too. Maybe this is a lesson for future. Anyhow, still best 911 build series on RU-vid Matt. Hope that this isn't the end. I truly enjoyed this journey. Keep up the good work sir!

Seems like if you have only fixed and replaced that is necessary It would have cost you $12k ~ 15k But you wanted to change it into mint condition well tuned machine , so it cost you $50k I guess Wheels , Brakes , Suspension , Exhaust , and some Interior parts could have been saved up and kept in stock But it looks amazing because you have invested that much of money and time

When you consider that a lot of your modifications would have been done on a more expensive starting point, it actually doesn't look that bad. My 997 Carrera was $99,000 AUD with 148,000 km on it. I know there will be things to spend on but a Carrera S would have been an extra $20,000 to start with. I intend to keep it so the overall value is my perception

Ok, $60k probably IS the current market for this. Nothing at all against Rennline, but those "farkles" add nothing to the value. However, in spite of the higher miles, I think the cosmetic and mechanical *condition*, the fact it's a 6 speed, a desirable color (even though not my choice), and that it shows exceptionally well with the spoiler and wheels...there is a whole lot of curb appeal and this would sell very quickly at that price.

It's a great finished product but a lot of those costs were avoidable or could have been less, eg buying more used parts. I always buy used Porsche wheels, never new. I can invariably find nice wheels with good tires for $1k, and sell my old ones for $500 - $800 - I even do this when I just need tires. Used exhausts on ebay and forums. Sometimes parts cars work well too, I will buy a cheaper same model car, combine the best parts to mine then rebuild the parts car with my old parts and resell it. I usually get most of the money back.
@S2NAZ

How to ruin a fun time 😂😂 adding up the parts will do that in a hurry. But, all the enjoyment and the learning curve getting to know your 911 and honestly look at how beautiful it is and how fun it is for you to drive. Forget the cost. OH, and your truck still sucks! 😂😂😂😂😂

Matt, there are a few other intangibles that makes the project worthwhile. One is what you have learned. No class or set of books could teach you all of this. Think of the satisfaction of "taming the beast". You took a car that probably deserved to be in a crusher and you turned it into a great looking and driving sports car. You gave the car a new life. Lastly, think of the people you've met and the friendships you have made as a result of this project. Can't put a price on that.
@MyBallers

Damn I was close!!!!

To start with the question: Is it worth it? I would say an absolute YES to that. Given that a human bean working for "the man" gets to about 2000 hours a year you were not too far off on the labor, but how do you calculate labor when you have learned so much. You were your own mentor in many things, and what about the people you met along the way? I would not subtract anything from the car, the RU-vid and Ad revenue should go to re-investments. What is this car worth? I think you know yourself with ALL these parts and the light tune on it that the car is worth much more than 65k. Be proud of this car, make it so that this is the start of a new beginning and grow the channel. Look for collaborations with other rebuilders.

Now make the cheapest but best investment to finish off any car- go do an advanced driving course. It's not about learning how to race, it's about learning your limits and expanding them. You will appreciate your car even more. Things like how to balance the car, hold onto the wheel correctly (which is not at the top with one hand), and that the gearstick is not a hand rest

Dang I accidentally watched the whole video then remembered you asked for guesses HAHA. RIP my chance haha. Overall though the numbers seem good for what you got out of it and what went into the car. Working on my 996 Im using rock auto for some things to save money, ebay, pelican parts deals, whatever I can to save because as you've shown. Parts on these cars can be nuts! I am glad you were able to be at a happy number after all savings are calculated, and it is a great experience for you and everyone of us watching! One of the best porsche series out there Matt!
