The purple piece that you removed only increases the speed differential between the 2 directions of movement.

Engineer: “after 100s iteration I’ve designed a mechanism to achieve this exact function”
@marqsande
I believe the purple part does indeed affect how this mechanism functions. I think it influences the speed of the teal part. Without the purple part, the teal part would be rotating at a constant angular velocity, but the purple part makes it rotate at slightly different speeds.
@35manning
Whilst it's not shown, the teal piece would be connected and fixed in place.
@KaneyoriHK
I mean, the extra bit is there for a reason, could've, at least for experimentation's sake, tested it to see if it would work better or worse with the purple piece
@glenjamindle
The slot in the blue piece is what changes the velocity in the entire mechanism. It creates a delay while the purple piece maintains a constant velocity. Also, the blue piece can be one piece
@sengir3937
You need the purple lever to make a more linear movement.

lmao, I've seen this channel yesterday and thought "lol Scrapman has not done these things in a while" and here we are lmao
@0bsidianPrime
Scrapman you have pained my soul. The animation doesn't show it for clarity about the rest of the mechanism, but the teal part

Scrap Man, next time you have to build linear moving mechanisms, just use 2 pistons. How to make this work? so: make a 1x2x1 platform out of blocks, place 2 pistons side by side on it, max their distance and speed. Next, build, while on the lift, on top of them another 1x2x1 slab so they connect. Last part is to get 2 logic gates and set one to NAND, connect the AND to NAND so that NAND is always on. Connect AND to one piston, and NAND to the other. Voilà, hit them with a hammer, they would basically slide with 0 friction. This would help so that your creations stay as one piece. You can also stack them for more reach. Guys, if anyone read this, please like so it gets to him, would save so much glitches from happening.

i love these videos, one of my favorite series!
@MattDvc
The purple part reduces the acceleration time and makes the platform speed almost constant
@Greenphantom301
when it was turning at a faster speed when the light blue arm was on the bottom it couldnt push the weight of the sled fast enough and gets caught for a sec, then the controllor tries to catch up and speeds up until it has reached the point where it should be. thats why it seemed so agressive when it stopped.

@VAXHeadroom
I like these videos, not for the mechanisms themselves, but for the problem solving techniques to get multiple independent components to mesh together. Always fun stuff.

I love these videos! I wish he made them a more reoccurring thing, even like variations. maybe not mechanisms but other real life physics models.
