RU-vid is planning a pretty big design change of the entire platform. In this video I'll go through what they have shown so far, talking about what I like and why, but also showing a couple of tweaks that I would suggest the RU-vid design team to make for an even better experience :-)

I wish RU-vid filled a little more Info into some of that Black Un-used Space for the RU-vid Mobile View. The Side Bar when you visit the RU-vid Home Tab on Desktop View when you're signed out should be filled with more Info similar to the Twitch Website Side. Lastly I wish RU-vid's Logo changed to a Boxier Design. I'm a little OCD lol

RU-vids new design is one of the worst ive seen. They seem to have remived that light-effect next to video thankfully. The text on youtube is hard to read on dark theme now. Its like the font is too thin. The search on a channel feature is now something ypu have to scroll to reach. Problem is that the scroll works bad. When writing a comment on a theead with like 10 comments, the cpmment you wrote can be see in other videos now. Happens often on shorts. If you zoom on laptop the responsive design gets upset and icons can start to jump around at some levels of zoom. Not to mention all border radius that makes it look like a 10yo did the page. I have a long list why youtubes ui is getting worse

I use the SAVE button all the time to put videos into playlists so that I don't lose useful videos. and it frustrates me that often in the mobile app this button is hidden behind the edge of the screen in favour of the CLIP button. I'm watching an hour-long training video, why would I need the CLIP button? But RU-vid designers apparently don't care about me. They want to make a new TikTok.

the new rounded ui just looks bad imo, the classic youtube ui was the best one and then it all went downhill with all the redesigns and trying too hard to make the ui look "modern" is just ruining the aesthetics, the new darker black for the dark mode is good but the rounded ui and separate gray rounded containers for each button just looks horrendous, even the updated ui from before this one was better than this. if there are any gramatical mistakes please point them out as english is not my first language

i fucking hate the new design. I hate rounded corners. How the fuck can i revert that change? the biggest shitfuck is that you cant skip to the last video anymore. i miss click so often and want to get back to the video i was watching but i cant do it anymore.

Although I miss it when the dislike button was actually useful, I agree with your decision of hiding it altogether in your redesign version. Also, I'm curious to hear what you think of the desktop version of the new UI. Personally I really dig the new round corners for the thumbnails and the blurry reflection under the videos 😊

Not a huge fan of the rounded corners myself.. a lot of thumbnails used the square design for effects and now it just feels quite... toy-ish

The new desktop design is bad. The biggest change that I notice and bothers me is the information below the video. They really messed it up, mixed all the info and too much of it is in bold and large type. It is just worse than the old one. The legibility went down the toilet. It used to be as it should be - the title in large type, then the views and date of release, then the separating line and only then the author /channel and subscribers number. Perfect. Now it is a mess. Similar Info and info about the same thing should be grouped and there should be contrast, etc. - the basic design principles! And I don't want to comment the round corners at all.

Fantastic video and observations. I have experienced the download option being used very heavily in countries with unreliable or slower internet connections. Allows for a buffer free viewing experience or allows you to download where you have great internet and then watch at a more ideal time. Also as it is a feature locked behind a paywall (Premium), I am sure they want to remind you that it is constantly there 😅 Other than that, 100% agree with all points raised 💯

I've been om the platform for more than a decade and I'm almost positive that there hasn't been a single update that I didn't hate. The UI is plainly terrible but the biggest issue is the color changing frame around the video, so distracting.

On desktop, the click-rate for the Subscribe button must have taken a serious hit. The flat white look gets lost amongst even the 'Comment' button, which at least has some saturation and stands out.

I use the 'save' btn a ton as a means to bookmark and watch content later. Often, I'll jump into a video and realize -- 1. this is longer than I thought and I don't have time to finish -- 2. I'm in an environment where I can't focus and the content requires more active viewing (i.e. a good tutorial) -- 3. I'm going to want to revisit this later and do a deeper dive.

Some of the things I'd like to see implemented on RU-vid are: Dislike count, both on videos and comments Layered comments, like in Reddit, so you can know who is replying to what Search keywords or phrases on comments Support for images and GIFs in comments So basically just a deeper redesign of the comment section.

There was already a Dislike count. This was removed due to negative usage and increased cyberbullying. The Dislike button only has a function for the algorithm, if at all, but its time is also foreseeably finite. Positive use is wanted and the interaction with likes, shares etc. RU-vid will probably not take a step back in this, but rather one step further, as mentioned in the video and remove the whole thing.

@@Endlessweek The problem is that youtube is full of fake tutorial and scam videos. And for that purpose the dislike count was really, really useful. You cannot look at an "informative" video and make a decision at a glance, you have to look through it which is probably better for youtube but worse for the user experience.

To me this update sucks, the youtube update kinda makes it harder for me to find links and plus I keep wind up misclicking things more than I have too, n plus the live and shorts it does make it easier but I'd rather have an option where we can just make my RU-vid layout the way we want so dat way we dont have to get these constant messy updates that we need to keep getting used to, this is a update nobody asked for idc I'd rather the old layout it may be easier for some ppl but surely not for me

the glass effect bothers me a lot because my phone has an oled screen, so because of that I prefer black. With black I have less light on my face and save battery (although battery is not a problem). This effect forces me to put the videos in full screen

The ease of access to information and user interface options is priority. I don't want an oversimplified UI because it almost always means the removal of information and options for the user. What looks good from a graphic designer point of view isn't always what is best for the user. 3:20 You are wrong. The text you are writing in should always contrast against the background. It makes reading the text a lot easier.

I know maybe in countries where internet infrastructure isn't as developed you can download videos for free to save internet data. In Nigeria when I went it was free to download videos yet in the Uk I have to pay for premium to download videos.

BRIGHTNESS CONTRAST IS AN ISSUE! LITERALLY CAN’T LOOK AT VIDEOS ITS TOO MUCH. Speaking as a RU-vid junkie who might average 8-20 hrs of video content daily. I stopped at 15 min in with the update. Redesign the redesign. Add a brightness dimmer.

The new design really upsets me. I’ve used RU-vid a long time and I really don’t feel like it’s a nostalgia problem. I just liked the old layout so much better and it felt easier to use. And if you just stick to one format everyone will have an easier time using the app. I don’t feel like I can find anything anymore. Thumbnails too big, descriptions are all crowded, the moving comments every 4 seconds is distracting, and now I can’t make it full screen with two fingers?! I keep reading RU-vid is trying to make the app more user friendly so if that’s the case can I just have the option to use one of the layouts it’s had since the app was created?

Hi. Just two questions: 1. I see a lot of UX/UI designer add a designed resume built in the portfolio. Is it necessary? does it add something? or is it ok just to leave a link for CV. 2. Is it necessary to add a section on my portfolio showcasing all the software I have a familiarity with ?

1. May be easier for fast scanning but a downloadable PDF is still important. 2. Yes, but don't do a 5 star scale or progress bars for it. Just show logos of apps that you're familiar with so if a company works in Adobe XD and not Figma they know you still know it well enough.

The colors in the glassmorphism part are taken from the thumbnail. I believe that theres actually just the thumbnail in the background and there's glassmorph over the image.

@@MalewiczHype I mean, i felt like the same but I was just watching a video where a guy had a complete green background and then when he went from having a green background to something else, the colors beneath the glass didn't change. The video's thumbnail also was majorly green and thats why it made me believe that its the thumbnail morphed beneath the video.

Sketch. I use Sketch for 99.9% of my real work. Figma only for some tutorials.

It doesn't matter as much for a couple of reasons: 1. Sketch has an open format so you can easily import it to ANY other tool. 2. The interface is similar enough that knowing Sketch you can switch to working in 90% of other tools in a day. For me it's a more polished experience on a lot of levels, as a native app (compared to the Web app or a Web app in a wrapper - as Figma is). + Figma has a VERY invasive (evil) privacy policy whcih I'm not too fond of either. And to add to that - I quit Adobe products a few years ago so not coming back to them now :)

@@MalewiczHype Why are they removing important information from the title area though.. I mean upload date seems important. I check it all the time. Like for news vids .. "When was this news?" .. seems to be very important. Is it just to promote re-watchability / recycling for their old data?

They've changed the UI again. Already. The thumbs down button is back.. but we can't see the count, but we can see the up-votes.. all about positive feedback you see (it's been like that for a while.. us drones).. and we can see the exact view count and upload date in the description. But it takes another click... they gamble on the the majority of disinterested folks.. to not click it. It's game theory people. It's why the algorithm is designed that way. It's how we behave... statistically. Stop behaving like a statistic!

Hello Malwiciz, I'm seeking your assistance in revamping my school management software project. I've invested significant effort into it already, but I've noticed a decline in my comfort level over time. I find myself stuck in a loop where each attempt to enhance the design seems to make it worse than before. I'm particularly struggling with decisions related to color, typography, and spacing.
