I'm trying something different! and posting 2 versions of the same refashion! This one is MY refashion and all the troubles along the way. In a few days I post a extended edition, as a how to tutorial so you can make your own! Let me know what you think, and if I should do it again! 😊
Well done hon. Those dresses were particularly important for larger ladies, Ethel Barrymore lived in them dripping with beads. She had a maid, but most people didn’t realize she used the maid as her model and she beaded her dresses herself. She would have loved you dear.
I love the fact that the red slip and tabard fit both you and the curvier model - lovely and so much more *one size fits all* than fast fashion can ever produce..
This is So lovely Evelyn. I love the idea of a tabard. Also a small thing but it looked so much more comfortable doing your hand sewing on a cushion. I am going to try that 😘
What a clever idea! This will be a quick solution when your child wants a Roaring Twenties dress for the weekend. And works so much easier when it’s on the Monday before the party!
Omg I love that show clothing are gorgeous and fun. Also I enjoy watching deceive Frankie is another show. Love your video watching you change old things into amazing outfits
Oh my goodness!!! A dress made from scarves!!! I like the brooches much better that the black bows on the side. Please do a tutorial on your hat. It's just perfect for this out fit.
I really enjoyed this video. It's so exciting: going to a 2020 New Year's Eve Party in a 1920's dress! And the light in your eyes... as a creator I'd recognize that sparkle in everybody's look. I'm going to try this. There's still plenty of time and I have a drawer full of old scarves I haven't used for years. You're a treasure my girl! I love everything you stand for! Landfills shouldn't even exist. There's a place for everything in this world. Thank you for sharing!
Love the dress beauiful as usual. I love the Miss Fisher Mysteries, I was so disappionted when it ended, I loved the clothes she wore they were beautiful. I also loved the clothes that Dot wore especially her hats. I just saw a trailer for the new Miss Fisher series that is coming out in Australia, The clothes for that series look beautiful , can't for it to come to the US. There is also a movie that is coming out soon. Can't wait for it or more of your videos,
We got Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries in Canada, back in 2015, and I really love her show! I love the 1920s, and Phryne's dresses, and hats really impressed me! Fortunately, at that time, SEARS was selling cloche hats, and I managed to get a nice collection of cloches! I even had my hair cut into a bob! So, your video is perfect, since we are entering the 20s again! If it weren't for Covid-19, I'd enjoy this new decade more. Thanks for making these lovely and helpful videos! ~Janet in Canada
OMG - this is brilliant. I am doing a world cruise in 2022 and there are several Roaring 20s nights. I could do several of these and they would pack down to nothing. Thank you so much!!
WONDERFUL!! What a brave and amazing thing you did cutting those pieces. I always have anxiety when I upcycle something and have to cut something beautiful. Thank you for a great video.
Really?? Do you get anxiety about it because you think you will ruin it? Or you feel you don't know what your doing? I think about if people feel this way too!
@@Evelyn__Wood I actually think about what if I change my mind about the way I should have done it. What if there was a better design. But then again the design is mine. I feel like that about cutting into leather too...if I should have chosen a different design. In the end.. even if I did make a mistake: I have always salvaged something and also learned something in the end. But still Anxiety. then Ah Well... Here We Go. :/ :)
Thank you for this video. I was just thinking about making a flapper dress for welcoming 2020 and your video popped out. Now, I have to make it, no excuses.
You are soooo incredibly talented! I am amazed by your ability to execute your plans and designs so beautifully. I love the idea of reusing and refashioning fabrics and garments. Thank you for show how to do both. It's such fun and inspiring to see you work.
This looks so cute. I enjoyed watching you do this, my grandmother would redo clothes during the depression and the Second World War. She would always repurpose evening dress and other womenswear. In a similar way that you did. I wish I had a little more time with her to learn more about how to do this.
Beautiful outfit Evelyn. Thanks for the detailed “how I did it video”. I do love all those little changes of mind moments. Very real. A nice reminder that it’s all a process. .......And where you think you are going may not be where you end up......but it’s all good in the end. And like the comment below; I love the cushion idea for hand sewing. Makes so much sense👍 Tracie
I have to do so much catching up with your fashion show! Tomorrow is my last test of this year which means... SEWING TILL NEW YEAR!! I have way too many scarfs from my hipster phase in high school but I only have one neck! Guess who will make a 20s evening dress to wear for Christmas!!
🤣🤣 Yay!!! The extended 'how to version' of this refashion will be out in a few days! I'm trying something different by posting the two versions, so love to know what you think! And I cant wait to see yours!!!
What do I hear about a fashion show? I‘ve been on a little RU-vid hiatus (I moved cross country and started a new job) and it seems, I have some catching up to do! Love that dress, it’s a great way, to repurpose a really fancy scarf, you might not otherwise use.
I'm HEEEEERE =D hahaha, finally! Well, it's perfect!!! Gald to see it upclose!!! love it love it!!! (btw, I said at vintage sewing school I didin't know bias facing was... I lied, I just didn't know it was called bias facing ^^") aaaand there will sadly be no 1920's dress for me... FOR the new year, because I'm way too overwhelmed, I'll just stick with that slefmade tress turned into jacket + skirt, and I'll do the 20s dress ... well ... after! it's gonna be alright, 2020 is a whole year, and any day is a good day to celebrate the 20s hahaha!!!!
I agree!! Any time is a good time for a 20's dress! I use bias facing on just about evetything!!! I love it! Don't overwhelm yourself, just stick to something you can achieve well, in the time you have ❤
How lovely! I've considered making my granddaughter a skirt from a beautiful pashmina with gold thread running through it. Now I wonder if a tabard dress would be an option as well. Were they made from other fabrics for daywear also? If I ever need a period costume I think this might be for me as a person of size.
Fabulous outfit! I can’t believe they were scarves, I want to try making one after these holidays are over. The embellishments are so classy looking too. And the red underlining is stunning. I once made a dress of similar fabric, but not of scarves, when I was younger, and I recall struggling with the thread type. I did use the beeswax to make it easier to sew and noticed you did too. What needle size did you use? Just wondering...beautiful creation! 👗✂️👗
How lovely! One question, when you used the the pins on the sides, did you reinforce the chiffon? I always end up with small tears when I use a pin on a scarf. Thx
I was taught all the aspects of sewing at a Sydney tech in the early 80’s with Brother industrial machines. But I have been a die hard Janome enthusiast 😊. I notice you use a Brother machine... do you prefer them ?
hello Evelyn I know you're not going to like this. but for everyone waiting when are you going to film the juki sewing machine video tutorial how to thread it and how to operate it? Please kindly reply back ok? Thank you very much
I would have offered you my grand mother's 1920s dress so you could have saved those gorgeous scarves and wear them with the actual 1920s dresses. If you ever visit London or Paris, drop me a line and let me invite you over (don't worry i'm as gay as they come so this is not a booty trap) , and open grandma's closets for you. They are full of monstrosities which belong in a museum of natural history rather than on someone's back or arm (aka a panda and a tiger fur coat and an elephant leather bag, i am vegan and a veterinarian so imagine how horrific and disgusting these things are to me and how much i would love to give them away unfortunately they are illegal to wear in the UK or to take out of the UK ). Bring a large suitcase and pick whatever takes your fancy. That's for the London house and if you find yourself in Paris, my aunt, grand aunt (her mother) and great grand aunt, is and were all seamstresses, first for a certain Gabrielle Bonheur Rue Cambon, during the belle epoque and later on during the annees folles, and after that my aunt started working for Dior (Christian not the house) , then St Laurent and Givenchy(Yves and Hubert) so there are some vintage stuff you might be interested in, inside their closets. There are no female heirs in the family and this is not going to change thanks to me any time soon, and sadly at 1,98m nothing fits me ! I love your enthusiasm and your channel so seriously girl if you find yourself in the old Albion or Paname , drop a line.I live in Switzerland so i am only a train ride away and will meet you, because one day or another all those clothes will end up in a landfill, which would be a shame really.
@@elizabethw.6154 I'm afraid my family is far more interesting than i am.Thanks a lot Liz. I am sure your family and yourself are just as interesting to a stranger's eye.
