Just got a G20CB at a garage sale for $100 fully working but mucked right up with all types of farm furs!!!! Cleaned it up, already fully reset from previous owner running a 6700 and a 1080 reference and this is a great prebuilt for what it was back in its release! Still getting the job done in 2024, going to be watching your other vids to do a complete tear down on it

Great Video, I have my Asus rog G20cb for more than 7 Years, and it still works well, although i have issues with storage :) it came with a 128gb ssd only :) and a 1tb hdd that its almost full btw, a 1060 6Gb nvidia graphics card, and i7 6700... It still works perfect not putting into account the pc lagging for a few times bcz of the 128 Gb ssd that as almost only 5Gb, sametimes 1Gb left :) I do a lot in it bcz of school, Adobe software and Visual Studio , and data base stuff! So that's a still for that PC! Enjoy it well 💪!!!

still have my build i built in 2014/2015. Its an i7 4790K with 32Gb of ram (DDR-3) 1600. It has a classic cooler master evo 212 (double fan), with a 1660 super on a gigabyte z97 board. Got an nvme 500Gb running at 1500 read write approx; limited to port speeds with a SP 4TB ssd 2.5" for storage; powered by an evga 650 watt gold PS semi mod wrapped in an Novatech eclipse case. Has a be quiet 140 fan up front and a 120 as an exhaust.

Great video. So glad it worked out for you. That thing the eay it sits is still worth about $350-$400 so I'd say it was definitely worth your time.

I know it was satisfying to just be able to complete it after all the run around with it. I hate setting projects aside for one reason or another, but love coming back and being able to finally finish.

I bought the same one from eBay in 2021. I think I paid $133 usd. It was described not working or not tested. It looked like it was stored in the garage. Luckily no moisture got it and no signs of rust, just dust and leaves. I did a thorough clean up and changed the thermal paste. It had 16gb of ram too. The g20 didn’t post, just turned on and no display. Also tested the hdd separately and it was dead. I saw that the bios chip was in a socket and thought maybe get that changed and see. Luckily found someone who sold a programmed bios chip for the Asus g20 for $18. Swapped that out and thank god it booted. Then got an 500gb ssd for it, which I slot in the tray above the dvd. Also got a 6pin to 6pin pcie gpu power cable for $13. And had to get a second power adapter for the gpu power. It came with a gtx 780 but not the supplemental power adapter that’s why I had to get that. I got the additional 6pin just incase I need more power for another gpu. I’m still using it as a htpc for my bedroom. I’m waiting on getting a gtx 1080ti for it or maybe a Radeon rx 5700xt. I’m also thinking maybe trying out the arc gpus as well. I read somewhere that the bios can be modded to enable rebar so want to figure that out and if it does might go that route. I love the form factor of these and the g20 is quiet enough for my room too. I’m glad to see you trying to fix it ❤

This basically looks like one of those SFF Dell computers but with laptop ram and triple the price it's actually a bit mindblowing. I remember these and how much they cost and they were easily over 1500$ or at least where i live it was

Hey there DLM: I’m glad you were able to get the stock heatsink. Even for $150 that’s a good deal for the performance and aesthetics, and it’s a cool little computer. I still play some games the 4790 with a 1070 and as you mentioned it still holds up well. It’d be cool to mod a newer board from like 10th gen or something like that

I had mine upgraded to 9980hk+rtx 3070+ax 210. I still wish to upgrade it to rtx 4070!

I have one. I love it. looking to upgrade GPU to 1080ti they do run hot mid 80's. There are a few of those for sale in my area.

What would you need to run the 1660 super ? I have that model of tower, the G20AJ with its original parts, but I'm wanting to upgrade from the GTX 750 but I'm not sure what else I would need to upgrade to handle the higher graphics card

Is there a link to a seller for the heatsink? Might have damaged mine upgrading the ram
