I RELAXED MY NATURAL HAIR OF 9 YEARS | It wasn't serving me anymore 💔 

I've had my natural hair all my life and that's approximately 25 years. I don't think I'll ever relax it cus it's truly beautiful. I do my hair myself with minimal manipulations so I understand how hard it was for you. You're an actor and having that hair manipulated regularly, would hurt like hell. You made the right decision!❤

I feel you Martha. I literally relaxed mine yesterday! After 5 years of locs and 5.5 natural with 2 big chops, I'd had enough. 😓 My kinks were beautiful but i have two little girls with BIG hair to manage. I'm also almost 30 and the high puffs and jumbo twists weren't giving sophisticated, professional hotgyal for me, I looked 15 😩

Same guilt I felt when I was about to relax mine too. I began to have massive breakouts after the birth of my second child and my hair still hasnt recovered. Do you and be happy, you're still as beautiful as always.....😊

For about 4years now, I go on low cut almost every 6months and grow my hair all over again, and I'm cool with that. As long as you feel great with yourself that's fine. You look great all the same ❤

Love this ❤ Your story is too crazy similar to mine. I had my last relaxer in Dec 2014 and grew it out before “big chopping” few months later. Mum and sisters followed after as natural. 9 years later (as in 2 weeks ago) I relaxed my hair. My hair has always been thick and longish too but never felt it was giving 9 years “natural” at all. I’m also seeing that my hair isn’t quite relaxed right now lol.

My natural hair has been for like 10/11 years now, and I don't ever think of relaxing it. Anytime I tried to think about relaxing, I feel like that's another stress, coz for me, during those times, my hair will get burnt, not fully relaxed again, after I will have to be dealing with the burnt, the bruises and all, so I feel like it's better natural than going through the stress of relaxing. True, NH is stressful but I feel I prefer the stress to that of relaxing. Since the purpose of you relaxing is that that you mentioned, is not bad. I root for you still 😍😍. Your conveniency matter and I guess anytime you're not feeling the relaxed one again, you can always do what will make you happy. Love from here❤❤❤❤❤

I was natural up till i was 19, I've relaxed my hair 2 times after that but i wasn't just feeling it i had to go back to natural. I understand your struggles and your hair still looks good, semi natural

I walked to a saloon with the mindset of using a natural hair relaxer to just make it soft n easy to comb cux my head was banging but it seems the hairdresser over do so it turned out just exactly like yours n yes I don't regret at all cux it's more comfortable n the end appears natural so I can style it any way I desire

Go girl!!! I definitely can relate. Exactly two years ago, I cut my hair and went on locs. I rocked my locs for a year and half, and then I took it out. Then I joined the team 'natural' for a few months. For my type of hair (4C), it was really painful, and the length was not evident. Although I have a very good handler for my natural hair, but it just was not giving. Guess what.......I relaxed my hair a month ago. Right now, it soooo giving and no more pains. And the length, wooowwwwww, it is so long for a two year old hair. So girl, EXPLORE!!!! PS-It's always your dimple for me.

I am currently at this very impasse with my hair and having been a naturalista for over 14yrs. I usually do a big chop every 3-5 years because when the hair grows to the point where I begin to struggle with manageability (usually bra band length), I give up, cut everything off and start over. I don't want to chop it all off this time and I'm contemplating going the texturizer/ relaxer route. Thing is I have lost faith in finding a hairdresser that is truly knowledgeable and patient enough to work with natural hair. The ones around me have better experience with relaxed hair and it's glaring their knowledge of natural hair comes from RU-vid like myself. I've always done my hair myself since going natural and I wonder if I will ever find a truly talented but affordable hairdresser to give me relaxing treatments going forward. When the hair is short, I can't wait for it to get long and when it's long managing it just stresses me out, takes the whole day and hurts my scalp.

You have every right to style & wear your hair however you choose & if the natural hair community has a problem with it, they just gonna hafta be mad because they don't dictate what you do with your hair, they only dictate what they do with theirs.

How did I just stumble on this after doing same last week? 😊☺️Went natural in 2014 too because my hair was too soft and hairline was kinda receding. Well, I got my hairline back but got tired of the hair itself. So, I said bye bye to my 9year old natural hair (after over 3 months of back and forth) and texturized as well last week. Also used the olive texturizer and I love the results because it's like halfway relaxed/natural.

Babe! I really know how you feel. Chimamanda was one of my greatest motivation. My natural hair has been on me for 7 years, I had a big chop once. The times I was still using relaxer, I get bruise all over my scalp and I can’t go through chemical burns again. I really don’t know what to do about my hair right now, I love my hair length a but I don’t even get to show it off only because of the shrinkage. I can relate to this so much 😂😂 I had natural hair for like 6 years and just texturized it 2 months ago, at first I felt like I was betraying someone 😂 but in the end I loved it. I love it much more now, I can do ponytails and other styles without feeling like my hair will get rough so fast. The only thing I miss is my fro 😢 but it’s all good. I relaxed mine about 7months ago. I felt exactly this way, cause funnily, there was a time I kept advocating for natural hair, I had a platform I shouted day and night there. But this things isn't a crime , so I told myself i want to get this hair relaxed and I was convinced about it. Na so i follow my mind pls myself. Congratulations @martha😂, I can relate to your situation, I also had that cute weird natural hair look for years but managing the pain and the stress of loosing and basically managing the hair was really tiring, plus when I finally decided to relax the hair it didn't straighten, and I kinda like cos till now people think my hair is natural because no matter the relaxer I use it still has that natural hair texture and it's kinda cool😊 I like it!

I saw this video right in time. I am so emotionally attached to my hair. I've had a million and one doubts whether to relax It or not. I've had my natural hair for 6yrs now. I loced mine after 10 years. But it was due to my hair breaking more than it grows. It tangles up easily. My hair dresser told me three years ago that my hair is better for dreads cos it really knots up. Protective styles were dangerous. I later loced this year. I've always wanted to rock dreads so it is a win win. I miss my afro occasionally, but I'm happy with my new hair. I know I'll never relax either way. I don't even consider it.

I'm doing this soon. I've carried mine for almost 10 years but it's stressful maintaining it. Really not worth the stress.

There was a suit in the US where a woman proved from research that relaxers increase your chances of getting two types of cancer. Theres a law firm currently soliciting black women to come forward to make a claim against the manuafacturers so just be aware of the longterm health side effects of using relaxers. I struggle everyday with not reverting back to relaxing but everytime i remind myself that i dont need to endanger my health longterm.

Since I gave birth to her 3 years ago, I have never cut hair hair. It's so relieving right now, and I intend to relax her hair once it starts growing back.

And about that hair making. Someone can't just have an urgent occasion and say u want to make packing jell It will not stick and if I see some Fyn hairstyles and I will be like Omo see hair . The person will carry it fo one month I will carry my own for two weeks. But now like this I can make any hair I want

Still on Natural hair. I think I will carry it for a long time though. I condition and wash and twist before any main event so the hair isn't as painful. If not it's always in a twist or bantu nut

Yeah, I saw they used a texturiser at the salon. The one you had on your laps. Which is better cos it will probably keep going back to the full texture. Better than relaxers. I had my natural hair for years and went to texturisers cos my salon wouldn't allow me to use relaxers to keep the hair healthy. Then, in 2022, i cut again 😂 back to natural. If I'll have to transition, I will go back to texturiser, never relaxers, so go go go Tumi! ❤
