The only thing to be aware of with Olay is that many of the products have fragrance. They do have fragrance free versions of some of them. And you can't trust the phrase "fragrance free" on the label. I found at least 1 Olay product that said that, and the ingredients included fragrance!
@jenniferforeman1599
@jenniferforeman1599 10 месяцев назад
@@janetmyhre9536I used to love Olay. Then I found the ordinary and good molecules. The ordinary is good for things like peeling Solutions and hyaluronic acid. But good molecules has some fabulous products. They're yerba mate under eye treatment is out of this world and I think they're most expensive products are 12 or $15. They all come in glass bottles. You can get hyaluronic acid and stuff like that from them too it's just that it's cheaper if you get it through the ordinary. Can cocaine has some really great products. Also the snail mucin by cosrx is incredible especially if you are older. I'm 49 and it has made my skin so incredibly hydrated and soft it's incredible! But there is a version that is made with yams period that is vegan and cruelty free . So if vegan products are important to you you can get a vegan version of the snail mucin. Hi Jen this is a killer video idea and I love that you're giving us "luxury on a budget" content. I'm sad to see some comments on this video that are telling you that your choices are still too expensive. I wonder if any of these people have tried buying skincare at the drugstore lately? Everything is more expensive these days and other than The Ordinary most skincare like Olay, Cerave, Cetaphil, etc are above $20 for most products. Plus I mentioned this in another comment but The Ordinary serums only have 1 main ingredient, so they're not a savings compared to that Olay serum you talked about which has the lactic acid, niacinamide, vitamin c and peptides. If you buy all those separate serums from The Ordinary it'll cost even more! You gave us some great options.

@@ginnyburley9552 IMHO, part of this is that people are looking for less expensive drugstore products to substitute for department store and luxury brands. So the demand went up. But I'm shocked that any Neutrogena product is that expensive! But you really don't need special eye cream. You can just use your moisturizer, and put some petroleum jelly over it if you need more moisture. I've done this for years, and I'm sure my skin hasn't suffered.

I used to use high end skincare....and then I started having allergic reactions to certain ingredients like fragrance. It started out just causing some itching and redness on my face and neck. When the itching began waking me up several times during the night, I stopped using everything and went to the drugstore and bought a simple cleanser for dry skin and rich moisturizer, both fragrance free with a short list of ingredients. My skin has never looked or felt better! My skin is also less dry than it used to be. Sometimes less is more. 😊

@20thcenturyrelic
@20thcenturyrelic 10 месяцев назад
@@laur83 It's really best for everyone to avoid it. Fragrance can cause long term damage to the skin (like sun damage) that may not become visible for years. That said, it's less risky in rinse off products than it is in leave on products. So a scented body wash, say, is less risky than a scented body lotion. I've had enough experiences with eczema outbreaks, and, once, a nasty rash on my lips, that I avoid scented and flavored products.

Hydrator gel boosts my regular moisturizer, and the Fade Away really has lightened some age spots and freckling. No Jen, it's been known since ever that the price doesn't matter when it comes to skincare because the ingredients expensive/ cheap are practically the same. Also, the cream doesn't go deep enough into the layers where the ageing really occirs - if it did it'd be considered a medicine and would need to go through the same testing as medicines do. And finally, many skincare products are very old. Cold cream has at least 2000 year history. It was known as 'Gaken's cream' and the ingredients are practically the same as those today. Expensive skincare is nothing but marketing. If it was so good, acctresses wouldn't have facelifts in their 39s.

I LOVE this video! Time to do some shopping a la Jen! I have been using the La Roche Posay Lipikar! Both this gel oil cleanser and the sensitive Hyaluronic Acid cleanser. That Laneige and the Baby Cheeks are both tiny compared to I’m From Rice Toner. I will definitely try the Olay Super serum… it is worth a try for me, even though my skin is very adverse to acids in general. It hates Vit C with a passion. I’d never heard of Naturium but I will be looking into them big time. The only “Retinol” I can use is Mad Hippie, Vit A. My skin can begin to sometimes like La Roche Posay Adapalene but after a while, my skin began to hate it. My skin began turning bright brown orange daily and got inflamed which meant NOPE. Now, I stick with my Mad Hippie every other day. I have Ehlers-Danlos and my skin is incredibly thin and fragile. I will be looking into Cocokind, Naturium, Olay! I have oily combo skin and I have used lancome tonique comfort and will not be usin it any more as I ca solidly say that Numbuzin No 3 Super Glowing Essence is way superior and cheaper. I felt the immediate similarities as soon as I tried the Lancome. Yes, I had the Numbuzin 1st. I go thru bottles of the Numbuzin and that says a lot, because they are HUGE! Korean skincare comes in real sized packages, so for my skin to use something up completely without rebuking it, say WOW WOW!

I’m a newbie into this world of RU-vid makeup tutorials, but I’ve found a few of you ladies that are my age, I’m 47, that have taught me SO much. I think it’d be fascinating if you guys would come together and do a half-day seminar, or a series of zoom sessions, or RU-vid tutorials, where you guys took ALL of your strengths and put them together for MY/OUR benefit. Risa, you have the makeup artist skills and knowledge that is beyond compare, and you bring in that West Coast vibe. Jen Phelps brings in the ability to dupe ANY luxury item and give the viewer, who’s not able to use that item for one reason or another, a matched product that is so incredibly close to the luxury item that it’s sometimes even better than the original… and she has a great head for business. She, also, brings a more mature face to the table, and the East Coast scene. MandyLea is the girl next door. She’s your best friend. She’s relatable. She’s always fresh-faced, and she represents stylish moms, who want to look and be trendy, while not looking ridiculous. And, she can do it with luxury or drugstore goods. She’s, also, more of a Midwest woman. Though I don’t know exactly where she’s from, EVERYTHING in me says she’s from Utah. She just looks like Utah! And, then, there’s Ali Andrea… the taste of Europe. She brings the flair of print and the catwalk to the table, as well as the Parisian vibe. To finish things off… Laniemariebeauty could give us easy, but new and stylish options for our hair in the coming months as we approach the holidays and bad weather in a year that the Farmer’s Almanac says is going to be a pretty brutal one for us all. I’d LOVE to see this happen! How can we make my dream a reality?

Thanks Jen. I use the Paula's Choice Aha/Bha products and it takes forever to use up one of those bottles. Although not cheap, I have had bad reactions to other chemical exfoliators so I stick with PC. Even the PC Calm version, which is 1% versus the 2% of the regular bottle, I can use every day if I want to and keeps my pores clear and reduces texture amazingly. Personally, I think this is one of the absolute MUST products.

i don’t use high end skincare because it’s out of my price range and with skincare you need to continually repurchase. whereas with high end makeup which i have, i don’t need to repurchase nearly as often, if ever. there have been excellent innovations in drugstore and prescription skincare. which is what i use. getting a good quality sunscreen, serums that work and some high quality actives is where it’s at. i love the olay regenerist retinol moisturiser and i’ve been using differin gel as well. which is prescription-only and expensive where i live. no need for anything fancier, i don’t think.

Although I don’t completely agree on the point that all expensive skincare isn’t worth it, because you should always look at the ingredients. I have both luxury and affordable skincare, and I could never replace all my luxury skincare with the affordable options, same with makeup - there are just some very unique products, like e.g. Danessa Myricks Powder Balm, but I appreciate the honesty in your videos and glad that you found what suits you and your skin type, because you look incredible and very young and fresh.

I must confess that giving up Lux products wasn't really by choice but necessity. I also use cruelty free products, and tbh the less expensive products offer far more variety and choice in cruelty free. Discovering Korean Skincare changed my world. Affordable, gentle, effective and most are cruelty free. I like several E.l.f. products as well... Good Molecules, The Ordinary... but then again I am much more obsessed with Skincare than make-up. So happy the Cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum is one you chose to try because I have been using it myself for a couple of months. With so many of everything to choose from, having an endorsement from a trusted source is welcome. Of course, the biggest change for me was switching from Curology to Agency. They really bumped up my tretinoin and THAT has made the biggest difference. They also do two formulated treatments for me, but it’s the one with tretinoin that has been transformational. They never bumped me up with Curology unless I suggested it, and it didn’t occur to me that they had not for many, many-too many-months.

I love the debunking of these overpriced products! Over the years, I have spent far too much on luxury products but not anymore. The only higher priced product that I continue to use is Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Acid, as this works perfectly for my very dry skin. And for a night time moisturizer, I find coconut oil works better than anything else I have ever tried. When I was young, all the grandmothers who had beautiful complexions used basic skincare products that contained mineral oil, such as Ponds cream. That does make you wonder.

Hi Jen I’m a skincare nerd and have super dry, menopausal, rosacea and eczema prone skin. Most of my skincare is from the Korean brands with a prescription active and a few key actives from Western brands too. For hydration you can’t beat the Korean toners, essences and serums IMO. However due to their much more humid environment (I live in Scotland 😂) their moisturisers just aren’t rich enough for me. I need a BUTTERY moisturiser to keep my skin comfortable in the colder months. I really like the PC ultra rich cream and if I want a splurge item the Kate Somerville Delikate moisturiser is really great. However a big difference to how my makeup looks is what I’m using to prime. I use my multiple layers of skincare and then my spf as normal, leave to settle for about 20 minutes and then just before makeup apply either the Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched face base or more recently the Revolution superbase to my whole face. Then I apply my primers on top and then the foundation etc. That extra layer of the superbase makes my skin so much more bouncy and might be worth a try. It has enough dimethicone to help as a primer, but the shea butter etc provides an extra dose of moisture that really helps my foundation look dewy on the skin. It works over my spf with no issues and helps keep my skin comfortable for much longer in the day (I do the same with concealer and add another layer of eye cream just before applying my concealer- also makes a huge difference). I’m super dry living in a colder climate with wind and central heat in the mix, so it might help you too. Best wishes x
